Man you have what I consider the best videos on building AK platform.
@Munky33212 жыл бұрын
just imaging if you were using an electric or air powered ratchet/impact... you'd be able to build an AK in under an hour! lol. sold me on the toth tooling though. i've been contemplating the best course of action, and this seems like the best and most affordable way. a 12 ton press from harbor freight is like 160$. the toth tooling is ~200. for the 3 items. you'd still need all the extra tooling for the 12 ton press so the toth tooling wins out every time. if only i could find a damn parts kit!

yea, when i was looking they were all out of stock. i ended up gettin a Maadi 7.62 kit as well as a 5.45 Bulgarian kit. had to order barrels separately though. seems like people are gettin more kits in stock, must have just been the holiday/pre-ban rush...

Robert, I am having the same problem! I am going to consult a machinist friend of mine to see if I can either mill the block down enough to make it fit or grind the dimple down without damaging the way the hammer pin fits?! It would seem impossible to try and flair the receiver with the both trunnion blocks installed. I am going to ask toth tool about this problem as well!
@ginsboy200311 жыл бұрын
Well, first get the kit. They are very hard to find right now at a reasonable price. After that, if you don't want to build from a flat, get a NDS receiver and the right rivet set for the build from ak-builder. I'm am soon going to modify my toth tool rivet squeezer and use it to build an underfolder so that may be of interest to you.
@ginsboy200311 жыл бұрын
You could and thats a good idea. The dia. of the rivet tail versus the dia. of the rivet shank is what you really want to look at. The tail just needs to be 1.5 times the dia. of the shank after squeezing or riveting.
@garystuber111 жыл бұрын
Craig, I had that block milled down to fit in the receiver! It has to be slightly smaller but it worked! I have a friend who is a machinist do it, but you could probably do it yourself with a dremel tool, might be kind of tedious but it could be done! Now it is slightly wedged shaped but it worked to get buy the dimple!

Using a 12-ton press makes things a lot easier. I understand that you probably have one in the garage, but just sayin', I can't imagine trying to build a rifle without a 12-ton press. You are much more than tenacious than I am.
@ginsboy200311 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't be necessary, but might be useful if you were doing 20 receivers and wanted them all to be the same. The shop tail of a rivet is supposed to be a certain dia. based on the dia. of the rivet so that is what I look for.
@ginsboy200311 жыл бұрын
Sure, but when you show your friends years later they will want to compare the one they bought to yours and if it doesn't look good, I'm sure they will let you know. It won't hurt it though, just make sure the holes are lined up before welding it.
@TheGuy0307704 жыл бұрын
Good job not riveting your rear trunnion in before riveting your trigger guard in. I made the sad mistake of doing that on my last build, and I had to take a milling ball and cut a notch in my rear trunnion for the support braces to be bolted in. On my next build, I am going to install my trigger guard even before I install the front trunnion, weld the guide rails in or rivet the center support into place.

Thanks for the information! I was leaning towards doing it like that, but it is really good to have confirmation that it will work.

Robert, I had the same problem but I got it to work!
@ginsboy200311 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can if you can find one at a decent price. Check state laws first before starting though. The ATF allows you to build your own gun for personal use. Go to ATF dot gov and read up on it. You must have at least 6 specific US made parts in it as well.
@ginsboy200311 жыл бұрын
It is a pain it the butt to get the block in place, can you spread the rear of the receiver apart far enough to shove it in place?

Grate video for us folks with no build space and a wife. I found the screwless vises on ebay.com but what size?

I drilled them out with a number 21 drill bit. A 5/32 could also be used.

ginsboy2003 you are the reason I believe I can build my own AK thank you for the inspiration my friend
@ginsboy20037 жыл бұрын
Just keep in mind, if you haven't bought the parts or tools yet that with todays prices you might be better off buying one complete! Some kits are way to expensive!

ginsboy2003 unfortunately I live in Commifornia where AK pistol are going for 1300 or more I'd rather build mine probably build 2 of them now that I have the tools

Did you use a 20 ton press to bend the receiver? Wonder if a 6 ton press would work on bending the flat? Excellent vids.
@joehunt198012 жыл бұрын
Very interesting video. I wonder if you could have adjusted the rivet crushing block back a bit so you would only have had to crush 2 rivets at a time. Might have taken less grunting to get them down :-) lol
@Tiersmoke9255511 жыл бұрын
do you think it's safe to use an impact gun to drive this section of the build?

great videos ginsboy2003 my question to you is where did you purchase that vise..you use it on many videos you do. Keep up the good work.

It is a "screwless grinding vise" and you can find them on ebay or at machinist supply web sites.

Hello Ginsboy2003, I'm intrested in making my own AK, preferbly Bulgarian underfolder, AK-47. To your advice, what would suggest on getting started and what would I need? If I start this project, I will most likely go with Toth tools.

Thanks for the video, I have to install just one rivet at the aft trigger guard hole. Would you know of a place that rents this trigger guard tool?

I don't know of anyone renting the tool out.

Yea I could have, very easily haha. I didn't even think of that. Your supposed to use this tool in a large table mounted vise, but I chose not to.

bump
@ginsboy200310 жыл бұрын
GregTheHun I did have to tap my block in place, but I got it in. If you're having that much trouble, maybe if you removed a little metal on it?
@tothtool4 жыл бұрын
We have since revised the crush plate and it has s step down to clear the rail. Once in a while you may come across a receiver that the crush block wont slide in on top of the rivets. Try to slide the block in first, flip it over and install the trigger guard and rivets, then lay the plate on top. Carefully flip it back over, tighten the holding clamps in as tight as possible without bending them.
@slablife9 жыл бұрын
For some reason Toth Tool does not mention this trigger guard installation tool will NOT work on a Yugo! I bought it and put in the comments of the order I have a Yugo to make sure this will work. Also, the Long Rivet tool will not work 100% either, the forward most rivet will not fit on the little pocket head because the bulge is in the way. These are great tools and I will keep them for a non-Yugo build, but if you have a Yugo, DO NOT buy these tool.
@BobBob-il2ku10 жыл бұрын
why wouldn't you bolt down the vise?
@ginsboy200310 жыл бұрын
It was a kitchen build and my wife would have killed me! The idea was just to complete an AK build in the kitchen which has never been done on video before. Seriously though, I have a vise I normally use in the garage that is bolted down though.
