I used a harbor freight air hammer with the tip cut off and dimpled. You dont need to harden anything its soft rivets. used the vise no bucking bar. Flip rec over and trigger guard through the vise jaws. Easy as pie. Built a few like that over the years.

Most guys paint or spray their AK after it is assembled. You normally would sand blast it before painting or parkerizing. If you choose to have it professionally Ceracoated, you'll be very pleased with the results.
@ginsboy200311 жыл бұрын
You need a block to support the receiver in the area of the hole, and a large punch to drive into the hole creating a dimple. You won't be able to use the rivet itself, too soft.

I have a question! should you put a finish an all your parts before assembly and then clean it up with touch up paint OR should you assemble the rifle then scuff, prime and paint it? also what is better pauperized or sera coated?
@AK47andGlocklover11 жыл бұрын
Will you show a video finishing that receiver with alumahyde 2 or duracoat or whatever other method you have?
@222foont5 жыл бұрын
Okaaayy, So this tool and skill set date from the 19th century? Then, 50 years of new technology and we get, Tada!, the AK47! Crude, but so damn effective!

You mentioned the Nodak Spud receiver is very hard to dimple, Do you have a recommendation on how to dimple one?

dear friend.please tell me where I got the parts for an AK?And you can see the thickness of the receiver?
@ginsboy20038 жыл бұрын
At the time, there were a number of different retailers selling them, now there are just a few. Apex gun parts and Ak-builder are two of them. The receiver was .040 thick 4130 receiver.

Going to check out the PSL video series. You must have read my comment on the previous video.....lol.

Yeah there's a good amount of info on youtube i look up everything on here aha. It'd be nice to learn side by side with a professional though but I think AK's gotta be dirt easy to build because they build them in caves with hand tools in Iraq xD It's pretty impressive actually
@lordperezident6 жыл бұрын
That's true lol the primitive tools they have in iraq to build those weapons is mind boggling. That's the place to learn how to build guns if one was interested to learn with minimal tools

Toth tool does make a rivet installation tool for the trigger guard.

Hello, how does the center pin go through the rails? My sleeve does not fit between the rails (AK-63D underfolder). Can I shorten the sleeve by cutting it? Thank you.

I tried doing rivets with a air hammer, it did not work at all. That;s when I bought the Toth rivet squeezer.

So your rivet gun is basically a dialed down air hammer?
@ginsboy20038 жыл бұрын
+MrIloveoldschool Yes, with a trigger control. An air hammer is usually off, or full blast. There are better tool options out there. I don't use the rivet gun for the front trunnion rivets anymore I use my Toth Tool rivet squeezers.

I was wondering if you could explain something. I bought all toth tools to do 2 bulgarian ak74s and i cannot figure out how to install the two midlength rivets into the arms on the front of the rear trunnion. I cant figure out how to use the rear trunnion rivet tool for those and i tried to use the rivet squeezer bolt cutters and it messed both of them up. I cut some length off one and it sort of worked but is ugly. What do you do?
@ginsboy20038 жыл бұрын
+cawakening Maybe the tool is twisting on you? Here is how I use it on an underfolder rear trunnion. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYjagWmkgKiNhK8 and part 2 kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6LXo4qMlL-XmpY

What is the best way to drill underfolder holes for receiver. AK Builder Does not have a MAK90 Underfolder Flats Thanks
@ginsboy20037 жыл бұрын
I'd attach a piece of paper to the the top of the rear trunnion with tape and fold it over the rear trunnion and transfer the holes. Slide the rear trunnion into the receiver and using a small bit like a number 40, pic up the holes. I use a smaller bit in case I need to move them. Once the holes in one side are done I drill through the holes in the other side.

What size are the rivets?? i have looked everywhere for what size they are so i know what size rivet head tool i need to buy!
@ginsboy20039 жыл бұрын
+Mark White AKbuilder sells rivet kits specific to the AK builds. You can get steel rivets from other sources, but they aren't the correct head style.
@Bigbacon7 жыл бұрын
what size rivet heads did you use in that air hammer?
@ginsboy20037 жыл бұрын
They are special AK rivets, I modified an air hammer chisel and cut a rivet set into the end.
@tomollie11 жыл бұрын
Ya I get what you're saying. Check out VICE's "The Gun Markets In Pakistan" it shows them making actually pretty decent guns out of old rusted scrap metal, rocks, & primitive tools its pretty cool
@lordperezident6 жыл бұрын
That was a great video! It's crazy to see how great they make weapons with their primitive tools and technologys they have available. That would be the place to learn how to build guns if one was interested
@Solingen100011 жыл бұрын
They aren't "hard" compared to a lot of other guns. But they aren't easy. To do one from a new barrel you need a mill which requires a bit of skill to use. Suffice to say they aren't as easy to build as they are to shoot lol.
