It's hard to believe that such eloquent sounds are coming from high school kids! Truly a testament to the high standards of Poland's state run music schools. These gifted students are so beautiful with their presentation and skill. Their parents, as well as the rest of the nation must surely be proud. Thank you, AFit for providing another brilliantly recorded performance for all of us to enjoy!

No matter how often I hear this piece, it still excites me almost as much as the first time I heard back in the 1950s, when every Saturday on TV a TV station would have a Saturday cartoon show where they had Warner cartoons like Bug Bunny. They also had live action features like Don Winslow of the Navy, Superman, Batman, etc. But my favorite were the Flash Gordon serials with Buster Crabbe. It was here I first heard classical music I remember hearing Les Preludes...

Growing up in Los Angeles we had KTLA Channel 5 play the serials every Sunday I believe. I watched the same ones as you did Robert. Tailspin Tommy, Don Winslow, Tim Tyler's Luck and of course Flash Gordon with Buster Crabbe. How soul stirring and to this day Les Preludes of Flash Gordon still stirs my soul. It is amazing the emotions it triggers. I love Franz Liszt, what a giant. I would love to hear it in Vienna before my time is up.

There certainly wasn't much to suggest that this was a group of young people rather than a world-renowned orchestra. It was terrific! Thanks, KZbin. BTW. When I was in a Christian college back in the day our choir sang a song which used the main theme of this piece. The hymn was "Come unto Me, all ye who ..." (from the Bible.) I'm 78. Oct. 27, 2022. St. Joseph, MO, USA. Oh! All the wonderful classical music that comes out of Eastern Europe. It almost makes you forget about the war raging.

@williamford95643 жыл бұрын
This is one of my all time favorite short pieces. My first exposure to it was in a middle school music class five decades ago. The " Les Preludes" is Liszt's variation on a poem with his words being 'What else is life but a series of preludes to that unknown Hymn, the first and solemn note of which is intoned by Death".

An iconic piece of music that sounds as heroic, dramatic, climactic and brooding as ever. After all these decades It may have been used for the Flash Gordon theme of the late 30's and early 40's but it was around long before that. Much longer. But it fit the character and the soap opera like heroics of this pre-Luke Skywalker/Han Solo hero (rolled into one.). Magnificent piece!

Since "les préludes" is my favorite work of classical music, I may not be 100% objective and of no other piece have I seen and heard so many different performances. Nevertheless, I would like to praise these young musicians. Mastery of the instrument and feeling visibly go hand in hand here and also the performance of Wojciech Plawner ensures my feeling for an absolutely worth listening to and worth seeing performance. And not least because of the very good recording quality, I enjoy this performance at regular intervals again and again. Thank you to everyone involved for this piece of art in our hard times. Oh...and another thing, though it may sound funny: How is it that the violins with the bows seem to never poke their next chair musician in the head? Has it ever happened that a violinist gets so carried away sitting with body movements and - wham! In the eye or face. Got to be where chair distance is most important to avoid that.
