These were the best decks at one time. I still own one. Aiwa also made incredible products of similar listings quality. I own also a good Haran Kardon 491CD and a lower model TD 202

Someone beat me to it but what a beautiful deck. I've always loved cassette decks and I still have some of my old ones somewhere in the basement.

I've had 2 of those Akai decks over the years, excellent, except both have a common problem with the motor head gear that locks up ,can FF and RW well, when changing to play the mechanics locks up.

Hello. I enjoyed you video because I have the same one actually I have 2 of them , it play and records well the issue of both akai deck is the top motherboard, there is an 8 or 12 pin black part that become super hot when playing , its the one in the middle , close to the vetical heatsink. And both of them have the same issue.

I think you should try the ultrasonic bath clean(er)... under the assumption if deoxit gets in there it should do the same a water based cleaning solution which you can later displace with compressed air or a solvent. Curiously enough the transformer's size of this big and complex unit appears to be pretty close to the transformer size in my Technics RS-B16. It might be that one or the other is a bit of a stretching it out.

In most cases, it is not necessary to remove the switches because each one has a "window" through which contact cleaner can be applied.

@@salermo42 sometimes contact cleaner can't cut it. It might work a couple of days keeping the crud wet and allowing easier contact but in the end you need more drastic measures like desolder, disassembly, cleaning or direct replacing. There are some techniques that might work like softening the crud with various agents, blowing it off towards an escape vent with high pressure air and repeat it several times, or wick out the solvents with cotton wool but... that's not something you would want to hand to a paying customer afterward.
