Nice little repair. I'd say more often than not, when I receive 'stuff' from people or friends, they usually always have something else they want me to take off their hands. The 'technical glitch' that caused the sound is because using the MIDI protocol, a MIDI note must have an MIDI ON event and a MIDI OFF event for a note, and for some reason (probably a dirty or mis-aligned key) the software did not get the MIDI OFF event, so it kept sounding that note. Might need to give the keyboard contacts a clean if this continues.

Could you maybe slip into one of your videos what happens when you press the on button. I have trouble fixing Bluetooth speakers when they don't turn on and I can't find a short. Just watching your back catalogue. John

Well done, another two products saved from landfill. The odd-looking ground track may be because on some designs there is (or was) provision for a resistor between 0V and the shield, but this is usually for EMI / RFI suppression on high frequency designs or to prevent ground loops when both ends have separate power supplies.

How the heck do you put so much power into a USB port that it melts the plastic and not burn out any components, must have been a lucky one. Do you take any musical requests? But a nice little fix and a two for one deal is always nice. Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing more

Yeah not sure how it melted like that.. Ha on the musical requests 😂

Leaving it plugged in with a damaged usb causing high resistance on a pin. High resistance equals heat but does not equal more power draw so you can melt down plugs without tripping fuses.
@kaitlyn__L

@@TheFallenAngel13524I had that happen quite recently with a very old USB cable, it was suddenly really hot near the connector and didn’t work anymore. A little disassembly with snips revealed it was the little surface mount resistor inside the connector, must’ve gone short or something. Thankfully the only casualty was the cable, as it happened with nothing plugged in!

Cracking fix, I liked the idea of the low melt solder insead of the heat gun, nice touch 👍 when you first started pressing the keys on the first board I thought you were going to break out with some AxelF for a moment lol. Great little fix 😊👏

Clear to me there's a significant issue with this USB port. Two of your units, same problem. Another YT vid, same problem. My unit, same problem On mine, the ground trace got so hot it lifted. I used a jumper wire to another location to fix that. Rather than pursuing a temporary fix with another USB port, I hard soldered a full cable in place, using two knots and two tiny cable ties for strain relief, one inside and the other outside the case. A bit small for a keyboard, I use it to input note data, when programming DMX lights. Much easier to use a tiny keyboard, than to count note numbers on an Ableton piano roll.

@BuyitFixit Жыл бұрын
Yes it's strange as it's not really a power hungry device. I think that strain on the port causes a bad connection which then heats up and causes damage to the board as you rightly noticed. Good work around adding a fixed cable. I've done that myself in the past with a couple of other things 👍

The extra wide final pad is because of the host/device pin, which is just signalled by tying to ground anyway. So may as well just combine the pads! The mini-A version of the connector (this is mini-B) ties it to 5V instead IIRC. (It’s been many years since I last read that on the specs, so don’t do any critical work based on this comment alone! :p)

Hi, what was your reference for replacing the usb mini socket? I bought ones with wrong pins distribution. I know 5 pins are needed, do you think you could share the model you got for repair? Thanks a lot for your work!!

You forgot to clean with the IPA 😉 Do you actually know, how long the flux takes to mess up the contacts?
@BuyitFixit
@BuyitFixit 9 ай бұрын
I've seen boards that have flux on them that are years old and seem to be fine.. so perhaps corrosion depends on the type or brand of flux. Cleaning it off it usually makes it look at lot nicer though😂 I can't remember what happened on this exact video as I've done quite a few, and it's hard to remember exactly what I did and didn't do without re-watching it myself 😂

You're very welcome Alex 👍Yes, recording and repairing at the same time is one thing while trying to keep the conversation going too, then comes all of the editing. On some videos (like the sound bar one I recently did) where there were 5 different video sources. Thermal camera, overhead camera, iPhone(intro and outro), camera looking at the oscilloscope and sometimes screen captures from the PC. It's one of the reasons why post 1 per week, but even that at a times is a bit of a stretch 👍🙂
