On note of AT Val: You can move him out of his miasma by just leading him to a different part of the map. The miasma won't follow, it'll only be an issue if he puts down more (which then you just move again). You can also disperse the miasma with a flame pod. A few things: 1. I did not coin the term "Pepega Slam." People have been calling it this way, well before I even thought of making this video. 2. The fights in MHW are only tolerable, because monsters die so quickly. That's why some AT monsters are so much worse than some of their normal counterparts, despite not changing their behaviour/moveset at all. A good example is Kushala, Teostra and Vaal. To make ATs a truly better fight, you have to change more than just HP and attack stats. 3. I extensively talked about unbalanced attacks in the video, but I failed to mention that a lot of the combat in MHW seems to be balanced around mantles. Once they run out, heck, even while they're still active, flaws become glaringly obvious. 4. I watched a few boss fights from older games I've played, like the Fromsoft games, where attacks can be massive in size, look flashy and can still be easiyl avoided with a well timed roll, block or parry. 5. I wouldn't critique this game so much if I didn't care. I do care, which is why I even bothered making this video. 6. Thanks for watching. Buy my shirt. The one I am wearing right now.

Iframes in Souls games are godlike when compared to MH - you don't need that much practice to use them efficiently. They also are the best answer to an incoming attack in 95% of situations - the other 5% being a parry or spacing due to lingering hitboxes. So efficient gameplay consists of rythmically hitting dodge and R1. In MH I can't a roar I saw hundreds of times - seeing how speedrunners like you dodge them effortlessly always puts me in awe. But in the end, as MH has lower s, I always felt that it is much more about correct positioning in advance than reacting to an attack with simple input at the very second it is meant to hit you. Hitzones make it even more important. So even though both games have huge bosses, the process of getting yourself in the position of commiting to an attack seems so much different to me. Thus I wouldn't use FS games as an example of MHW shortcomings. Sure, Souls speedruns are much more consistent than for MH, as dodging attacks is much easier and flashy attacks with long animations are rarely used, so you can't really overcommit like with CB's SAED. Obviously, this doesn't change the fact that some of things in MHW are bullshit and pepega slam and Lunastra random flames are the bullshitiest bullshit this game has. It is amazing how AT Nerg is still a fun fight for me, despite all that. Lunastra isn't.

Jus roll towards where he was when he jumps. It's actually pretty easy to do but hard to read if that makes sense. Even with guard 5 and dash juice if you block the first one and he spams the move (which he can and does) by the 3rd slam you are likely dead or close. @angelgutierrez95813 жыл бұрын
@@GuyWithAnAmazingHat fighting games are very different to monster hunter, fighting games are very fast paced so blocking is typically easier and your moves are also faster, in monster hunter, your moves are very slow and can't be fully interrupted along with the fact that depending on your weapons, you sometimes only have the dodge roll/ dive available to evade damage, so you're not just reacting to "frames" like in fighting games, you're trying to find out the exact move the monster is using so that you can time it correctly. So even though you see a move coming in MH you're having to decide what to do and sometimes you're character can't do anything about said move because they're in the middle of an animation. This of course isn't downplaying fighting games, they're really hard too obviously, just showing you that you can't really compare two entire different game genres.

Telling others to just use more defensive sets or to switch weapons also entirely miss the points I made across the video. I thought about leaving out clips where I kick Nergis ass at all, since that might make some people think ATN is not that bad at all. Turns out I should've put in even more, considering some self proclaimed "veterans" (something good players would never call themselves) can't even differentiate between good and god awful gameplay. This video was also made from the PoV of a casual MH consumer and not a speedrunner, so going for the low hanging "he uses no defensive skills, TA runner glass cannon builds XD" fruit is cringeworthy beyond belief. The hypocrisy of players saying "let me play how I want," trying to lecture others to use Defense+ as a workaround for shit game design, while throwing an autistic fit when others tell them that their set can be optimized, without losing any of their precious life saving skills, is unreal. That being said, 85% of the reception was stellar, so my hope for this community is semi restored. I could make a video responding to comments, but I feel people have made up their minds and even if you tell them that the sky is blue they'll still insist it's diarrhea green, because their gut feeling tells them so. Also, I wanted to educate people about something (I assumed) was clear as day. Apparently not. Can't believe people are arguing about Cheap One shots being unfair or not. It literally can't be easier than: Non telegraphed one shot = bad. "N-no, I-i never carted to it. I just so happen to have no proof for it, wait, I don't have to provve anything to YOU, I'm a fourth fleet elite :D." Don't forget kids, don't overcommit, you might get sniped by something at any time. Better stand still and play dead. You might be done with one hunt by the time the sun stops burning. Cheers :)

Well if you're only going to make a point on the negative aspect of these AT monsters without mentioning the positive point in the actual video, then you are most likely going to get the negative reception out of it. The video don't seem give out much in terms of irony so most probably felt like you were complaining. Then again most are probably not quick enough to catch on to it. Or they just want to watch and judge this exact video without having any relationship to none of your other videos. Which or what ever it may be, I don't think anyone meant to insult or offend you. The Tempered and Arch Tempered fights rather turned me off from the game and I'm rather worried about how they're going to factor into _Iceborne._ I'm no stranger to realizing that I need to "Git Gud" when it comes to certain monsters in the series, Fatalis and his ilk didn't go down remotely easily back in the day, but _MHW_ soured things more than they needed to with these monster versions. Tempered monsters are still reasonably balanced, though the incentives for doing those fights over normal versions is (was?) lacking. Arch Tempered tries to address that by adding monster specific gear to craft, but it's still not much of a better "end game" for the player. I'm sure I'll enjoy going through _Iceborne,_ but hopefully they don't carry over the current lazy "end game" design.

ArtumTsumia I agree, and I feel like not killing most of the AT’s (only solo’d 2 being teo and Vaal) I’m not ready for iceborne. However, part of me is saying I shouldn’t get iceborne as the difficulty spikes would just fly up.
@BlackShield245 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. I remember when Lunastra and Kulve Taroth premiered, I was worried about the direction of the game, then Behemoth worried me more, because Kulve and Behemoth were just time sinks to keep player count high. I remember finished AT Teostra and just being absolutely fried with the game, I took a break and then I read about Behemoth(Extreme) and I officially was done with MHW until Iceborne. They've cranked up the artificial difficulty so high in MHW with the AT content, that people just play the most broken build they can find to cruise right through it. I mean, I just don't see a point in playing MHW when I can't play a weapon I enjoy because it can't speed run a monster.

I'm not certain if they made the end game so strong because of the mantle or if they made the mantle because the end game is so strong. @ZZMonkeysUncleZZ5 жыл бұрын
No, pepega's issue is that it has no tell and almost no windup, hits very hard, can be spammed up to six times in a row with no downtime in between, and can be instantly chained into from ANY of his other attacks. I tested, and even sns attacks are too slow to be able to dodge if he attacks while you do, meaning every other weapon class is fucked. The only way around it is to only attack Nerg after he uses a move with a long recovery time. If you attack at a time when he's also able to do so, you're asking to eat a slam. This, of course, allows nerg to buff himself which makes the fight more difficult still. This one attack breaks Nerg's unique game mechanic by forcing you to play defensively.

@Goji-Moji5 жыл бұрын
Counterargument: Nergigante doesn't seem to have been designed with TA in mind. While I have insane trouble with Nergi alone (no cat) or without mantles, adding either one (particularly the cat, which I normally hate bringing to almost *any* other hunt)... feels great, honestly. A common complaint about World in general is that there are too many things that make the game easier. I agree. Rather than creating a fight that's challenging when you handicap yourself to make the game harder, Nergigante seems geared to make the game hard when you use everything to your disposal. The temporal and rocksteady mantles should have never been made. They were, and Nergigante wants you to use them and still feel something of a challenge. The game isn't actually made for TA rules. I think you acknowledged this in your comment and I'm sure other comments have mentioned it, but I think it's still a worthwhile point. The pepega slam is infinitely more tolerable when you have a cat around, in my experience. It doesn't seem like it was geared for a true solo. There's an argument to be made that all content should be soloable without any help, but I'm not sure that's possible while maintaining challenge with more to your advantage (multiplayer scaling speaks to this, though I don't think it was implemented properly at all), and technically it's possible to solo Nergi anyway. On my part, unless I'm deliberately handicapping myself, I find that AT Nergi practically goes down faster than the other ATs. Probably because my runs aren't perfect on the others or anything, but I think ~11 minutes for a normal run is decent. (That was the run when I first cleared him, and by the time the event rolled away, I didn't get much faster) I think also a speedrunner's perspective is different, having to run it over, and over, and over, and over, difficulty that doesn't feel "fair" becomes more grating, rather than the typical reward a more typical player feels upon clearing at all. For this matter I'm quite surprised you hate Vaal, if it makes sense. It's all subjective, and I'm something of a masochist, but I quite love AT Nergigante, and quite makes me fear and respect the monster. I want to feel like the monsters have capabilities that I can barely deal with, and realistically Nergi move so fast I can barely keep makes a lot of sense. AT's shouldn't fee like anything less than terrifying forces of nature in my mind, and it's not like anything has been worse than Gogmazios in terms of running around whittling on infinite HP trying to not get one-shot, and I like Gog. As much as I know it often enough acts like an HP check and there's little I can do, I have largely gotten used to and adjusted to the pepega slam. Though I've never seen him chain it like he did in your video, that's actually hilarious. I'd probably hate him too if I had to deal with that. XD Nergigante is one of the few AT monsters I found myself looking to fight for fun after I had all of his gear and the layered armor. I really think he's fun-the ultimate balancing act and culmination of what I've learned playing the game. But then I also like soloing Behemoth. Just my opinion though.
@Adeon555 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I'm a casual player whose character didn't defeat the base game all that long ago, and hasn't done much afterward (never defeated KT, gotten the new meta gear or anything - don't even have an augmented weap yet). I came back to the game after a month or so of not playing at all just to try soloing AT Nerg, and my rusty butt downed him on the 2nd attempt, only carting once (1st attempt was w/ IG, 2nd was GL). And not from a pepega slam, but because I tried to block through a dive bomb on low health, when I should've sheathed & superman dove. But I did use my palico, and a gajalaka which I refreshed when I had time, after he died. AT Nerg's tough obviously, but much less nerve-wracking with a cat buddy or two around to give you a breather and stay topped up when needed. Behemoth is much tougher to solo imo. What weap do you use for that, cluster bombs?
@Goji-Moji5 жыл бұрын
@@Adeon55 Nah I play charge blade. It's why I follow AkantoreX in the first place, lol. He's an inspiration. Stage 4 gets to be pretty rough and there's generally just a lot of HP and low flinches to deal with, but doing that gets you really used to the idea of "I will get punished if I SAED, but I have to anyway", so the Pepega didn't come as anything new on that front, even if Behemoth doesn't have many moves that come out so instantly like that. I actually think (yes because of Pepega) that TA AT Nergi might be harder than TA Behemoth, but I haven't successfully done either yet (no mantle behemoth is pretty rough; cat is take it or leave it), so meh. Non-TA there's no question; Behemoth is much harder.
@Goji-Moji5 жыл бұрын
Jordan William how are you going to have a hard time if you keep good track of the monster and it doesn’t punish you severely? You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Either it hits like a truck, it’s unpredictable/punished openings itself or otherwise difficult to dodge, or it’s not hard. AT Nergi does both at once and I see why people don’t like it but... I don’t have an issue with it. It’s not like you can’t actually keep track of Pepega, it’s that it’s hard to dodge, fast reaction and often you’re trapped in previous animations. But if it *weren’t* fast like that it would be a joke and nobody would be struggling at all. My greatest issue with Nergi is that his divebomb is basically pointless besides doing me a favor and getting rid of spikes. It basically can’t hit anyone who doesn’t have a shield and it doesn’t punish blocking it despite otherwise being a oneshot move. If I can trace another huge balancing issue for World honestly, it’s that the Superman dive got unbelievably and unnecessarily buffed from older games. It used to be if I Superman’d on Teostra while he was running around he’d just charge me when the s wore off and kill me. Now it’s just a “get out of jail free” card for basically the entire game.

The fastest hyper attack I've seen is a Nargacuga tail swipe when he is standing still and even then it is managable.

I kinda got use to his ground slams after a while, just need the quick response to his leaps. Only real issues I had with Nerg were: People spamming flashpods at him just before he did his blackspike divebomb resulting in him having his black spikes for an unnecessary amount of time. People flashpodding him and the other AT monster resulting in no turf war and two AT monsters running around. AT Nerg was really fun to fight for me, He gave me an actual challenge compared to the other AT monsters.

I have to object to AT Nergi's new move. It's extremely easy to dodge if you're on the lookout and you dodge towards his start-of-attack position (where he was when he jumped up to insta-gib you) or opposite to where he lands. The attack has a very nice and precise hitbox, which seems to be a trend with the new attacks that some of the ATs got. I will say that the nice hitboxes are kind of unfair, though. AT Xeno's explosive insanity is actually just a bunch of fancy straws of damage that you can walk between.

The problem is that slam could be chained from any attack randomly (except the meteor dive). Combo spammers like Azure Rathalos and Stygian Zinogre give you clear images about what attack would come next after the first attack, AT Nerg, on the other hand, could flawlessly chain any of it's attacks in random with the slam, be it the claw, tail swipe, backslide, or even the first AT slam. While the first slam might be easy to evade, it is impossible to predict the next slam. So, AT Nerg in a nutshell is to worry whatever the slam would come after x attack or not.
@mahdude78265 жыл бұрын
@@jordanwilliam3207 oh i know how bullshit that chain is. I main HH and i can never play a buff or cancel in time to avoid it, AT Nerg slam is cheese stinkier than a skunk
@Idothinkysaurus5 жыл бұрын
@@jordanwilliam3207 I know exactly what you're talking about, but when there isn't a visualization, there's a sound effect. I'm assuming that's why AkantoreX gave a blank image with the roar/grunt Nerg makes when he does the insta-slam. [7:18] It's a unique sound that is your tell for what he's doing (which just so happens to be the insta-slam). One could say it's your only tell for that attack. This is a the case with pretty much every attack from every monster. Monsters typically make a certain sound while doing a certain attack, and this helps with distinguishing one attack from another when the animations are similar. It's a layer of attack telling that pretty much every game has, but it's something to keep in mind. Kind of unrelated, but it's almost impossible for me to disagree that when a monster combos, it's annoying. For me, I can't combo the monster when it moves so much, and as a result a combo on the monster's end is not fun. Especially Azure Rathalos, he just flies around and does attacks that nullify flash bombs, so you have to run really far away so he flies normally so you can flash him. Don't even get me started on tempered AR, because that's where a Behemoth style damage check is added with each flash. If you don't kill him shortly after your 4th and final flash, have fun watching him zip zap zoop everywhere for a few minutes while he's enraged. Waiting for him to become exhausted so you can bop him on the nose is the worst. I mean, you could throw rocks at him, but it's still one of the most "I'd quit to go do something else" parts of the fight.

Honestly, you put up some good points, but you also have a lot of bad points. While I agree that some of AT monsters are damn near ridiculous to deal with but there is always way to get around. It may not be the way you like it tho. Nergy gets pissy? Better get out. Run. Block. Survive. Depends on how you build for it. If you go fight Arch Nergy with no earplug, no health, no survivability, only full on offensive and attack build, then you are asking for it. You gonna get one shot and stomp all over to death lol. As for weopons, not all weopon are meant to have the same equal chance of being effective in any given situation. Some are slower but will hit harder. Some do better with groups while other alone. Some does well with both while other just better in certain situations. You cant just bring a charge blade into an AT Nergy battle and expect to be able to dodge like a someone who brings a shield and sword to fight. Of course he is going to have a better time dodging because he is faster. But he gives up damage for that luxury. As far as group goes. You better off doing this with people you trust. Playing with randoms with no idea of how you play or how to tackle AT monsters will only result in hurting your composition. AT monsters are designed with intention of using everything you got at your disposal. Not just offensively but defensively as well. If you have to give up a window of damage for a chance of survibility then so be it. Better superman dive out of the way then going for that greedy SSAD. If your friends has to jump in and distract the monsters possibly taking the hit for you then so be it. If one of your mates or you has to play a wide spread healer all game than so be it. If one of you guys has to play crowd control piosoning, paralyzing or sleeping the monster all game then so be it. It is really up to you and how you play. If you plan on soloing then better go in there prepare and ready knowing that you gonna have a hard time. When I was soloing AT Nergy. I made sure to switch between sets, from paralyzing, poisoning, and sleep bombing him at least twice. Then mount and KO twice, and then finally bombing him a third time when he went for the sleep. I use everything at my disposal. Not just running in gun blazing swinging weopon wildly.

Look dude. You're posting this on a channel where a very good player plays this game. He knows what to do. Most people know what to do. His point still stands. The fact that nergi animation cancels is absolutely ridiculous. It takes an opening that he can decide to arbitrarily remove. This would be deal able if he couldn't just cancel into a spam attack and not slam you for having the audacity of trying to use an opening for an SAED. No matter what you do more than 80 percent of the fight is going to be you against AT nergi face to face and if that part is frustrating it's not a fun fight. It took me 3 attempts to kill the dude and my only thought afterwards wasn't elation of a job well done but the annoyance I'd have to kill this stupid monster more for the rest of the armor. I hated Lunastra for the same reason I hate Nergigante. Quick spam attacks that chunk you got 70 or more percent of your health with full buffs that can easily be chained into fuck you blasts or slams with no real way to deal with it.

@@Setixir And you are talking to a guy who been playing MH since it was first released on the PS2 up to world. AT Nergy isnt really all that hard. Sure he annoying, but so is any other monsters when you don't want to use rights means to deal with it. Take Rathalos for example, you must flash bomb him out of the sky or otherwise you're just hurting yourself. Take Bazelgeese, better play range and you are pretty much force to, otherwise you're gonna make your fight harder. Black Diablos, bring sonic bombs and so on. But what do all these monster have common? Once you obtain the gears in their respectable level and max them out, they become easier. All you need for AT Nergy high HP, max out set of Y gamma armor or better, high defense, play careful, dont hard engage when he is enraged, and bring everything you got. More less the same for AT Luna, but get heat guard , fire resist, watch for her ultimate attack and the fight becomes less painful. But that doesn't mean that those fight won't have their annoyance. Its suppose to. There are suppose to be windows where the monster has the advantage and all you do is more less play defensive. Once those moments pass, you wail on the monster again. If you are not building to specifying counter the monster then you are asking for it. I am sure you are building to counter it and there fore fight easier.

And if it is still bad design to you then try being the in monster shoe for a second. You got to deal with mantles, flash bombs, aliment, crowd control, and etc four people wailing you. AT Nergi basically forces you to rely on mantles so you don't get stomped/tremored repeatedly until death. MHW has the worst post game content handling I've ever seen. Even I think that MH Tri which actually got less contents than World due to lack of updates is comparatively better because it doesn't make the majority of your gears obsolete, and the end game variety monsters to hunt are more than just elder dragons ad infinitum.The focus on Elder Dragons only as the end game monster to hunt is truly a mistake. Moreover they try to lure player by promising (much) stronger gears instead of mere upgrade like the apex stone did, introducing a horrible powercreep I've ever seen. What they should've done is to make arch tempered monsters out of the apex monsters of each area. Turn them into the same level of playing ground just like Apex did in 4U or Deviant/Hyper in Generation. This way you have more end game monsters to hunt. Their new gears doesn't have to be instant OP like the AT ED did because the originals are passable. They are barely in need of more HP unlike the Elder Dragons which while not optimal, still got enough HP to be just right. I hope they drop any this silly focus on Elder Dragons in Iceborne. Let normal monsters shine besides them especially now that we have 2 apex monsters for each area. I don't want to fight them just when clawing to the end game. I want them to be PART of the end game.

I agree, some of my favourite monsters I never fight because the hunt takes only a couple minutes since they never got any stronger than when you first fight them in early high rank, I hope master rank at least partially solves this, but it would be awesome to see stuff like AT/deviant tobi-kodachi for example

In my opinion they should have removed the rng from decorations and made them craftable with just the rarest materials. Combined with stronger tempered monsters (early game monsters) and weekly events with increased drop rate for materials. Also layered amor sets for every set in the game, by fist actually crafting the set then completing challenges like "hunt great girros 30 times" to unlock the layered version and to then craft it with only the rarest materials of that monster. Also AT Kulve Taroths existence makes pretty much every vanilla game weapon obsolete, so instead of weapons she drops gold materials and vouchers to sell or craft something. More gold vouchers in exchange for rare materials to then craft the layerd versions. Not perfect but I would prefer it that way.

Just for the record I came back to AT with Master Rank to test AT Nergi and let me tell you at 1000 DEF and using Gaia Veil from Shara (Full Tremor, HG Earplugs, Full Windproof) AT Nergigante can slap you around PRETTY BAD. Dive Bomb caaaan be tanked maybe at full health with Food buff, all buffs and Health Boost 3 on 1000 DEF ( I would still dodge it because HOLY HELL THATS A LOT OF DAMAGE) But Nergi can chain many knock out moves that it doesn't matter. Seriously, AT Nergi is utter bs, I would place it up there with AT Velkana (but to be honest AT Velka only sucks because of the unusual 30 min quest time for spam fest fight) So, you can survive pepega slams but he literally knocks the Mega potion you chugged in ONE HIT at DEF 1000- AT Nergi hits harder than most Master Rank monsters including some AT...at high rank it was pretty ridiculous to drop that kind of monster. For the record, im a MonHun head for 20 years so Im no chump at this game. However, I am old world hunter much like the Huntsman so most AT quests are gimmicky like abusing mantles, abusing clutch claw, the only legit strat I saw on Nergi is if you manage to survive at the end you can chain sleep bomb him to clear the quest. Reminds of me back in the day when Alatreon was unlocked at the end of Tri on the online hub - you couldn't kill it before the time ran out so the strat was to bring sleep weapons with mega bomb materials and sleep bomb it to death- which was genius how the meta was suddenly subverted and the worst weapon element became clutch. Post Iceborne you can just Clutch Claw and tenderize AT Nergi horns and just beat his face to oblivion with Temporal mantle...Quest clear, easy and gimmicky proving who lame clutch claw being introduced to the series really was. I tried clearing the quest in High Rank gear with World skills and no claw = PAIN Mast Rank gear with Iceborne skills and no claw = pain Master or High gear with no skill restriction and clutch claw = obnoxiously annoying hunt at best P.S. Lunastra Nova is actually a wind blast(despite being so counter intuitive being an explosion) so Windproof hard counters Lunastra but even with max with WIndproof the nova can still sucker punch you. Funny enough most AT hunts are hard countered by specific Hunting Horns. Weird.
