With African countries proudly embedding the relics of oppressive patriarchies, it is not surprising to find that feminism is deeply rooted and thriving, there is a strong tradition of powerful women in the public space. However, as understandings of what feminism and feminist agency means evolve and younger generations of women attempt to define their own feminist identities, strategic disagreements have emerged within the feminist conversations, often ignited by opportunists. There also seems to be a lack of understanding of the underpinnings of feminist thought and activism which paved the way for current feminist spaces. Where do the controversies lie and how can these gaps be bridged? This panel will explore the complex dynamics of evolving feminist identities.
