"...Rwandans are still patriarchal and there is still a long way to go..." you could say this for any other country in the world, especially the western countries. I think you missed the part where the moderator said that Rwanda is the only country where women account for over half of the government compared to the rest of the world, where women in politics account for only 20%.

Rwanda is the best country in Africa, I’m moving there shortly as an investor. There’s no such thing as gender equality, it’s equal opportunity that we need. @@mzee5533 I believe the leadership culture has been laid out. It would be primitive for Rwanda to lose this progress. Botswana is another good example, rest of sub Saharan Africa are just failed states. Impressive how a country of 12 million, GDP of $15 billion can be run so effectively. This is what happens when transparency & accountability is promoted. Rwanda is the only country in Africa where public servants have a performance index. Kagame needs to teach this culture to all the failed leaders.

White people with heavy pockets lied to these beautiful African ladies, someone else is making money out of this narrative. Women had always their say in our culture even pre-colonial era. White people brought all in this mess that we are seeing today, I know my grandmother was a strong woman and she wasn't speaking English. Equality is a fallacy, even your little or grand sibling will never be equal to you. Have you ever seen a family of six being poor or rich at same level, God gives different gifts to each so that we can help each other no to compare ourselves. I am waiting for the really African gender equality not the white man indoctrination.

So long as they do not emasculate the men. We need competent people irrespective of gender. Afurika must wake to the reality that COMPETENCE is key changing our situation. Men must head their homes - wives must submit to their OWN husbands. In the workplace, we want a competent PERSON! By implementing a quota system we are depriving ourselves of selecting the best man for the job. If the world average is 20% and that includes developed countries, then we are employing a model that only works on paper. I was raised by a mother (woman), I married a woman, I have daughters and sisters. Why should I not represent their interests as a man in parliament?

We are constantly using the wrong terminology when it comes to this topic. In my opinion we should be fighting for „Equity“ and not „Equality“ It’s basic common sense to know that men and women are not equal and can’t never be equal in any way but are unique in their own different ways and this uniqueness can lead to countries development if we strive for Equity and not the later. It’s not fair to strive for the so call gender equality only when it comes to white collar jobs and not in construction and mines. I don’t see so many women dying in gold and cobalt mines in DRC and other places around the world.

The lobbying and media show you the picture of a perfect Rwanda, same rwanda as zero democracy, sema rwanda we live in jail with an open sky , in rwanda there not equally, before talking about gender equally let us talk about citizens equally. We hutus have zero rights in our country we live in an apartheid country most good jobs and opportunities are given to young tutsi, tutsi are minority but have 85 % in public sector and 95 % in private sector . In a fair election, tutsi will never win the elections but our vote and voices mean nothing to the world . We are paying for what the previous hutus generation did. In 1994, most of us were not even born on teenagers, but in their eyes, we are all genocidors. Not acknowledging this in equality of rwanda's society is a crime.

@uu2013 What do you have now more than what you had since 1959 up to 1994? You claimed to be absolute majority ( 90 % ), then you had entire country for 40 years, then Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire was on your side, then France was on your side, Belgium was on side, United Nations led by Egyptian Butros Ghali was on your side, the list goes on...... but with all that, you had a humiliating defeat. Now, the question is this: What do you have now, different or more than what you had before?

There is no such thing as equality. We different. Men and women are different we'll never be equal. We perform different duties. That's why weman can be pregnant but men can't. We do as hard as good jobs and weman can't. Don't be cheated.

Women in Rwanda suffer. Stop telling the propaganda. They are many women in the parliament but they are led by men. They keep quite when woman are raped or put in jail like Yvonne Idamange Iryamugwiza, etc
