I like Nerdy's call out about the intentionality of the show's creators around violence and sexuality. It is why I like it so much; there is subtext in pretty much everything on top of the overt coolness. The incense thing on Kinuyo is wasn't hot rocks, it was like a cleansing ritual I think. To like clear your negative energy and poor Kinuyo is swimming in evil so it kinda makes sense.

This next episode ranks in my top 10 favorite episodes of any show, ever, in my life so far. If episode 5, let alone this whole series doesn’t start winning awards. Something is seriously wrong with the system, more so than ever.

It got 6 awards already. In the Annie award51. So happy for them

I wholeheartedly agree. There's been some good TV this year, but honestly this show is absolutely my favorite for show of the year, and a good chunk of that opinion is because of how good episode 5 is.

When someone you're hoping will be a hero murders a young woman for their own benefit... But, perhaps it's worse. Kinuyo doesn't look like she's being mistreated, and didn't seem to want to die. My thought is: Mizu killing the bird and putting back with it's unhatched eggs is symbolic (why else would it be included?): Kinuyo is pregnant, perhaps by Boss Hamata, and the doctor is treating cramps.
@nugget36878 ай бұрын
The way boss Hamata reacted to the death of kinuyo is a MASSIVE overreacting if she was just a concubine like we've been told, even for a ruthless crimelord. there's definitely a big piece of the puzzle that was not told to mizu, and thus not told to us, and I love that we are not given the full puzzle
@docavar56987 ай бұрын
Kaji MUST’ve known Kinuyo was getting pregnant, she’s a concubine for eff’s sakes. Honestly it’s something Mizu would’ve realized from the start when Kaji put the job on her, Kinuyo is no longer pure and she took on the burden of bringing a child of Hamata into the world. But this was all done in ONE night, Mizu didn’t ask for more details not knowing the true extent of her future actions. Whether Kaji knew Kinuyo was pregnant or not, Kaji was ultimately selfish and costed potentially two lives in one night dragging Mizu in.
@paulchavez30397 ай бұрын
Omg I've been trying to figure out if there was more to the bird thing other than just the "necessity" of deaths of the innocent as a means to an end and that makes so much sense? The shot of the eggs and her putting it back in the nest is the key to interpreting that she may have been pregnant 🤯
@ourabouras5 ай бұрын
I definitely felt that Kaji was lying about Kinuyo, not 100% sure about the pregnancy but that could be why the showrunners hid her lower torso with all of the smoke when the camera zoomed out. When Mizu did the sign language Kinuyo flinched away like she was fearful of Kaji equally, felt like she was trapped between a rock and a hard place.

Next season is greenlit. There is a multiple season plan.
@Hohum378 ай бұрын
@@mwill8248 That makes no sense to me. They set up four people to kill from the start, that was never going to be resolved in one season, and they have specifically said they have a 3-4 season outline. They also set up plenty of other things throughout this season for further storytelling. Also, the production line of an animated series doesn't really allow for making a massive change to the last episode.

I disagree about akeime not having any skills. I think the writers of this show have masterfully shown us from episode 1 what her amazing skill is. It’s the ability to read the room, and adapt to the situation. Very quickly. And manipulation to get what she wants. She had a whole speech and act put together for her dad when she wanted to ask him to marry tiegen. But the kid threw noodles in her face and instantly changed the situation. Then her dad got pissed and she recognized instantly that she needed to change tactics. Appeal to him in a different way. She manipulated him into telling her what samurai she would marry. After she was robbed, she adapted by riding in the shit cart. A high born Nobel, who has lived a life draped in fine silk. She had no problem hopping on a pile of shit, as long as it got her where she wanted to go. And then that didn’t work out and she had to adapt again. When she was dropped off at a brothel, she adapted and manipulated a man into carrying her anywhere she wanted to go. While being very naïve to the brutal world outside the palace walls, she has the expert ability to manipulate the situation to her advantage. I mean she made a fat man with ED ejaculate with out even removing her kimono. How much more metaphorical do want to get. There is SOOOO much depth to her character and just might be the most interesting characters on this show. In my humble opinion.

I totally agree about stories that have a definite ending instead of just trying to keep going until they get cancelled. When I saw the ending of the first season of Arcane, I kind of didn't want there to be another one, because it felt like such a perfect ending. BES has been confirmed for a second season but I'm not mad at all.

I appreciate that the show isn't shying away from the fact Mizu's path is not heroic. There's a tragedy to how she's fueled by rage from a life of being called a monster for something she cannot control and in response she has taken a monstrous path that is harming innocent people. The fact Fowler is so cartoonishly evil makes it easy to stay on board with her desire to kill him, but revenge is inherently selfish and destructive and the show is highlighting the cost of it.

Am I crazy for just legitimately being against revenge as a concept and not wanting _anyone_ to suffer, no matter who they are? (Yes, not even _those_ people.) Don't get me wrong, I understand the _desire_ just fine - I've imagined the nasty end of plenty of horrible people, sometimes for _very_ personal reasons - but on a rational level I just can't justify it to myself at all. I just don't _want_ to enjoy people's suffering (even if I sometimes do; I'm still human for better or worse) no matter what. Sorry for the rant, that "hell" comment just really hit a nerve for some reason.

Have you ever considered watching the League of Legends cinematics? You talked briefly about Arcane, seasons and stuff, but if you're craving more... ARcane-esque, then keep in mind the show was built around characters from the League of LEgends game, and they have a lot of cool cinematics, the later versions of which tend to have some narrative behind them, granted they're short, but still cool! They also have shorts from their card game that introduces different regions and lands from Arcane's universe. It could be a fun way to immerse yourself in the world while you're waiting, as well as see the roots compared to where it is now.

21:20 I *am* a religious person, specifically Episcopalian, and one of the tenets we believe in is that it isn't our place to hate sinners (ie Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin), nor for us to render judgement on their sins, since Judgement belongs to God. That said, I couldn't agree with you more that those that take advantage of the helpless (be it children, the disabled, the elderly, etc) absolutely deserve a special place in Hell. I know that makes me a less good Christian than I otherwise should be, but I just have to hope that God forgives me, because I dont think I'll ever be able to change that belief. Regarding them choosing to not show Kuyono nude, I really appreciated that as well. It seems like she was meant to symbolize 'Innocence', in the same sense as the bird that Mizu killed, and showing her nude (ie in the same light as all the other women at the brothel) would have demeaned her innocence, as well as taken away some of the impact of her sudden death.

I appreciate that this show rarely did the whole, show a scene, and then *3 months earlier* or whatever. It's one of the most annoying tropes for me since I read a lot of foreign comics and a lot of them like to show a really cool scene and a badass mc or something shocking. Then *3 days earlier* for several chapters...
