It's tragic and disturbing that Fowler brags that nobody murders as well as the British, and he knows because he was once on the receiving end of their cruelty.

Very interesting that Fowler's motto was "I control my life now. Every bite." And Akemi spent an entire dinner gaining control of her life with each bite she didn't want...and now, controls her life.

The bit with Fowler talking about his past is so good. It's basically both the audience and Shindo learning about what could have made Fowler such an absolute demon. And now this man is in Japan with thousands of guns.

@Dell-ol6hb10 ай бұрын
Tbh the whole guns plotline is dumb because Japan already had guns for centuries at this point (I mean they're right next to where guns were first invented after all) and they were widely in use in their armies by the last 50 years of the Sengoku Jidai which ended like 50 years before this show takes place, so it makes no sense for the Japanese lords to be so impressed by these weapons and for the Shogun to not have armies armed with guns. They were so widespread that around that time it is thought Japan was producing more guns than any country in Europe
@justahermit117210 ай бұрын
@@Dell-ol6hb what? No, it was the Portuguese who introduced guns to Japan in 1543. It was a pretty huge deal because Japan was in the middle of a civil war and guns were immediately accepted by all sides of the civil war. One of the reasons why the country closed itself off to foreigners (except the Dutch) was because they believed Europeans would only bring more instability to the island, both due to the introduction of Christianity and guns (the "arquebuses). That is why guns are forbidden in Blue Eye Samurai.
@roryoneill742410 ай бұрын
@Dell-ol6hb There's some truth to it since the period of isolation resulted in firearm development stagnating compared to the outside world. The absence of arquebuses is irksome, but the outside world was still outpacing Japan in terms of weapon development and a lot of the plot probably would have been the same

That talk Mizu has with Swordfather has gotta be one my all time mentor sessions: he uses aphorisms, but cares more about Mizu than doctrine of the lesson… he’s not some superhumanly wise Yoda or Pai Mei who’s so inscrutable and mysterious the student only feels failure to measure up. He opens up and offers a personal study in hopes it helps Mizu
@FiresCollide10 ай бұрын
The thing is, Taigen isn't exactly wrong about Mizu. She's so hellbent on revenge that it's made her a terrible person at times, like allowing an entire shogunate and city to be slaughtered as long as she can get one man. Taigen did the right thing.

Japan was every bit as brutal just a few decades before during the Sengoku era, but it does make sense that a younger man who had grown up in a time of relative peace and security (under the Tokugawa shogunate) in an isolated nation might respond to an older man who grew up in a country oppressed by another (Ireland and England)
@Pyramanager10 ай бұрын
@@mrdropkicker1 Exactly, every country around this time was brutal, but media only portrays white countries as evil. A lot of the comments last ep calling fowler racist and evil for what he did to his half breeds, when the japanese literally had the same mindset towards half breeds too but ppl defended the japanese as misunderstood

I've rewatched this show about three times now and one of the things I keep hearing about this episode is people questioning how Mizu has her sword pieces and Taigen has the broken blade when it was taken by Heji and never turned up in episode 6. I noticed the explanation only after three rewatches, deliberately looking out for it on the third so I thought i'd bring it up for you guy's cause its really hard to notice and it can feel like a massive plot hole. Its very short but the scene where Mizu is speaking with a newly awakened Taigen ends on her stating that "I'll be back." and then pushing a cart off screen. Its after this scene that the two swords reappear in the story. Its so short that I cant help but feel its a victim of Netflix's episode time restrictions, because considering the quality of the rest of the show It really stands out. I kind of hope that they might do a special short episode where we get to see how Mizu recovered the swords from Fowlers castle, since that was where they were lost. And extra action scene's are always welcome. Also I wanted to mention that only on KZbin, Netflix has released a special 'Episode 6' which is edited into the style of a Kurosawa movie. Black and white with brightly colored effects like blood spray and flames for contrast. And a remastered soundtrack with a more traditional Japanese feel. Its pretty awesome and I think you would enjoy it. Also not seen many other reactors reacting to it so. Fresh soil.

Fowler is just GROSS!It's the obvious attempt to make him seem threatening by making him a dumping ground of every bad trait a human could have:apathetic, racist, homocidal, depraved. He just comes across as a pathetic one-note villain
@thedappermagician69059 ай бұрын
Pretty sure he's supposed to be what a traumatized person who is filled with hate, gains extreme power and influence. He faces little to no struggle to keep his standard of living and upon request can have just about any new desire fulfilled. Couple that with finding no meaning in the world, it makes sense he would continue to become more and more depraved as he searched for excitement. He needs stimulation to keep doing what he's doing. If he had it all and still found it all meaningless (which he kind of does) he would just sink into nothingness and depression.
