Excellent video. I've seen hi-fi forum opinions that KZbin is not a valid sound comparison tool, but when done well, like this, I think it is. You did the all-important level matching between original sound and the three pairs perfectly. I was listening on Sennheiser HD590. My new headphones, ordered before I saw this video, are being delivered tomorrow. (You wouldn't like them - they're the 880's!)

Hans Wurst: I agree! I own the 58X, the DT 880 Studio 250 Ohm and the K 701. Maybee this older Charge from the K 701 is even better then the new 702,s and also an older Charge of the 880,s sounds better to me, the Hd 58X is by far my Favourite! I own also an Avinity Which is based on the 880,s but Sound,s totally Different. It is my clear Nr. 2 Headphone. Soundwise it does not has the Beyer Peak and the Bass is Just Overwhelming but for music to Powerfull. The mids are a little bit Recesed and unfortunately the Highs are sometimes Sibilant. But the Soundstage is very Good and with the very Good Imaging and that Extra in Bass , it is my Nr.1 for Movies and Gaming. This Headphone is maybee the closest one to a 5.1 Dolby System because it, s Sounds like it has an Subwoofer integrated. Unfortunatelly the Avinity is sold out, because it was a Limited Edition ( only 500 Pieces WW ).

When it comes to your opinions, based on what I have seen so far, as a sound engineer, I respect your ear and assessments more than anyone on KZbin. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and sincerely am excited at the thought of a new video from clavinetjunkie. The way, imo, you should see “haters” is as viewer engagement. It’s views, more comments! The joke is on them! You are seriously getting better with each and every video and the fact that you have so many iterations of your carefully tuned settings, designed echo what you hear, is fantastic. It is blatantly obvious that you have the highest of standards. Anyone that cannot see that is ignorant or chooses to ignore the top of the line content you provide. On the blind test I thought A was the 880. It sounded almost identical to the original track. Hearing this on a 770 pro 250 through an e10k. (yeah, I know). I'm back to headphones due to circumtances (very small apartment, no room for my towers). You dissuaded me from buying the HD 58x for now. For the music I listen most the 770 does the job rather well (extreme metal/hardcore) but I want something to complement my 770 for now as I listen to jazz/classical/guitarra flamenca. Thank you Oluv! I just subbed when I saw your rant video about other reviewers and I'm glad you carried on and put so much effort on the sound demos. It was touching. I regularly use Dt770pro, DT880, Dt990pro. The biggest surprise I had was the difference created by earpads. There are unlimited options for those headphones. orginal, velours, leather, thick, thin, soft, hard... I usually use the DT990pro because I wear them all day. The open back design is really comfortable because at my quiet place I might even forget that I wear them. Because treble and upper bass is boosted imo I get a "passiv loudness" effect. Listening too loud with them isn't that great because they become too boomy and unprecise. They somehow lack deep bass though while upper bass is inflated. I used to listen to loud music on the Dt880 because the bass isn't that inflated and they manage this volume level better than the DT990pro. On the other hand the peak in highs is very uncomfortable at this volume. Therefore I usually use an EQ. While they are not horrible... out of the box I would not really recommend them. For every day use (if open back is not an option) I like the DT770pro. I feel like the upper bass isn't that inflated in comparison to the Dt990pro but it's stronger than the DT880s. Super low bass isn't very strong but I kind of don't care about that for headphones anyways. Highs aren't as annoying as the Dt880s imo, still there is a "Beyer Peak". The sound stage definitely isn't as impressive as the Dt990pro's. I used all kinds of ear pads for all of them. Depending on the own liking swapping them might be valuable. While my DT990pro's need soft velours with perforated back to not lose sound stage or to not sound muffled my DT770pro's have 30mm thick earpads with leather outer layer and velours on all skin touching sides. They isolate even better this way. I also experimented with different inlays. The differences are overall impressive. Anyhow. I think the sound of the HD58x seems good. I look forward to getting my hands on a pair of those as well. They might overall outperform and replace DT880 and Dt990. In a couple of days I can borrow a pair of Dt900pro X and maybe some 1990pro as well.

@@Anti-FreedomD.P.R.ofSouthKorea I didn’t mention anything about distortion. I never heard the others so I can’t comment. They have their own issues that has nothing to do with you being not good at what you do. You have a very solid channel, your opinions are usually back by quality demoes and MOST of us appreciate it. There’s room for everyone on You Tube. Sure Z has his own style, I like him too but for different reasons. This is a hobby and should never be taken too seriously. Upset? Why would they be upset? What does it matter if you like something that someone else doesn’t? I don’t need to be told what to like. No need for validation from someone else. If something sounds good to me it’s good. I don’t give a fuck about graphs or frequency response. It’s about enjoyment, I’m not a pro, and I’m pretty sure that those idiots who are rude to Clavinetjunkie are not either. He disagreed with me on BGVP DMG because the graph showed a midbass hump, but I went ahead and bought it anyways and I absolutely love it. Is the bass more noticeable: “yes”, is it the most accurate sound: “absolutely not” but the fun factor is there! It’s all opinions here, and ultimately don’t trust anyone by my own ears. @@LuboAck "What does it matter if you like something that someone else doesn’t?" It matters because the social world judges your worth on you liking and having the "right" things. So people try to build consensus and justify themselves and their decisions to others. e.g. Those headphones are valuable and good and if you disagree with that then that's your fault. Either because you don't know shit about sound quality or because you have this moral failing that you think your opinion is more important than (my) other people's opinions. Option A is offensive, B is defensive. B is always lame, A is sometimes right.

Wilde Heide I think we agree on this. Having the “right” things is a result of heavily consuming society where people often judge on what people poses. No one seemed to recognize that the AKG K702 was put-on reversed on the miniDSP EARS (you can clearly see that the cable is hanging on the opposite side in comparison to the Beyerdynamic DT880). I wonder if the channel balance or even measurements are proper because of the wrong sealing you achieved, since the K702 pads are angled. In your comparison video (K612 Vs K702) both are put-on correctly. Interesting comparison between the trio would also be the imaging and soundstage, but I guess it's somewhat hard to measure this with miniDSP.

Awesome Video! Thanks for your opinions! 👍 Have owned Senheiser HD 595 (most lightweight on ears) Beyerdynamic DT 770 (most power in bass, but TIGHT, and heavy though comfy) The 770's were the best iv heard for entertainment, but as im mixing in my homestudio i needed something neutral so igot the AKG 240 MK2's thats been around since the 70's & not changed all to much. At the end of this year im planning to get the Sennheiser HD 650's for an evolution. Im not using any speakers, so a good set of heaphones is very important for my studio use. Also something i value is that the impendance is lower on the 650's as it needs to fit the very popular Focusrite 2i2 external soundcard that ill feed it with, so they wont be to heavy to drive. Also a big thing when your sitting mixing several hours is that they are not to heavyweight. The Beyers (at least the DT 770 were very heavy in my op, good for robust quality build, but bad when sitting mixing 7-10 hours a day or more) also bass was way to over-emphasized on the 770's for Studio use, thats why swapped to the more laid back & neutral 240's). So on that note the HD 650's takes the cake as well. The only competitor would be the DT 880 Pro's. Not entirely sure what to pick yet, but its most likely leaning towards the 650's because of the two reasons mentioned above.

A real eye-opener, or rather an ear-opener :) I knew the charts well, but I didn't know, that the sound differences were so huge. Sennheiser is the way to go for me. Thanks for this great comparison.

Oluv, I think it could be nice for all the people who already have the Beyer or AKG to check how to correct the sound with equalization. Just a one time workshop. I found it rather interesting to experiment with eq settings to make an earphone more enjoyable to listen to.

This is how a great review should be 👍 Focusing on doing a thorough and educational review and not bashing other KZbin reviewers. We already know you're in the top when it comes reviewing speakers and headphones, you don't have to proof yourself in other ways than just doing your reviews 😉

I was listening to this with my old Sennheiser PC360 headset from a Asus Essence STX, and the Original recording sounded really close to Headphone A, I had to rewind to look where exactly it switched. Do you ever plan on testing Audeze LCD2 Classic? Would be interesting to see a comparison with the Sennheiser 6XX

I really appreciate your review, it is very informative. I was deciding among this same group of headphones and I agree the Sennheiser pair has a more balanced sound, which is more pleasant to the hearing, while Beyerdynamics sound muddy and with a ton of unpleasing treble boost. Finally, AKS's looks awesome in terms of design but with a flat response that is ok but nothing impressive. I will pick the Sennheisers for my next buy.

Using DT 880 edition... Loving it. Xduoo Xd-05 external dac amp makes a great pair with DT 880. 250 ohms version doesn't have that spike version.... Senheisser is best among this test i agree

Thank you very much for the comparision! Very nice over-/review! Want to decide between decide 990 PRO and k702 - now I'm a bit clueless, cause I thought the AKGs would sound better, but the changes after Samsung bought them... Meh, need to hear more or test it on my own :/ Kind regards

I owned the DT880's and sold them to a friend and agree with all you said. The 58X are my current headphones and they are indeed the most neutral I've heard personally so far. I still love my HD600 and akg k612 though. I also own the q701 which has some of the problems of the k701/702 but more tamed. Listening to a friends k701 I noticed the mids sounded "plasticky" for lack of a better word as well. They are also too distant with their soundstage. The k612 is the smoothest and most neutral of those akg's and oddly, the cheapest out of them. It's a shame the other models take the spotlight. Overall though the AKG's are bass shy.

Excellent review. Are the Sennheiser too hungry to be run by headphone out on general usb audio interface? Or is 120 still ok, and it is good to avoid it with the 250ohm + ?

I guess if you're listening on a treble boosted/V-shaped system (most speakers) that beyer treble is going to be accentuated even more (still a great way to compare with the neutral). DT-880 actually has a felt patch between driver and ear (AFAIK only beyer to do so), so that peak is a bit tamer than the other DT series (and the newer silly-priced models too from what I've read). I have both 770/880, the 770 balances it with more prominent lows (especially with the pleather pads), but still pushes it for a lot of recordings. I've been using my DT880 for 14 years with an OTL tube amp (slightly darker, fatter tubes) and still wows me how good it sounds (absolutely resolving, flat with a little extra sparkle on top). Always preferred the look/feel/construction of the Beyers, I can't deny the Sennheisers great sound.

Hey Oluv, you are doing amazing work.. congratulations for the effort. I have been listening to sound demos from Z Review and I knew it from day one that they are really crap. Finally I found your channel and I'm lovin' it :). please review Koss KSC75 as nobody has recorded any sound demo of it and they are really great!

I'm new around here but your review is really informative and very accurate, I've owned the HD600, K702 and DT880 (250Ω) so I agree with your sound impression. What are your thoughts on sibilance? I personally have mixed experience with the Beyers. I found the DT1770 and DT1990 sibilant (most sibilant) but not the Amiron Home and DT880 while others said that the DT1990 is the least sibilant Beyer.

I've got an original pair of HD580 Jubilees (1995) and original (made in Austria) K701. The classics really hold up well to modern high-end 'phones, even using modern DACs and amps. The HD580J is just sublime - I keep it to "reset" my hearing because it is so neutral (I prefer them to the HD800).

Feels good when you can just guess which brand the headphone belongs to without looking at them and just by listening to the sound signature. I guess I'll get myself the 58x as a gift because of that...

which of these do you deem most comfortable to wear? I have the beyerdynamic DT990 pro but lately im not happy anymore with the comfort, got new earpads installed and still not happy. Kinda looking for an upgrade and I used to have sennheiser HD595 and those where really comfy. Now im wondering if i'd go for AKG K712 or some comparable sennheisers.

how does this headphone rig work. doesnt my current setup color the outputs? are the AKG phones that bad or is it just this headphones to mic to usb recording to youtube compression to my rig to my ears not really that accurate? that said, i have the 58x and the output in the video is pretty similar to my experience. sometimes in some recordings it can seem a bit muddy at times, as experiences in the jazz track where i thought the dt880 mids really shined with that sax, while sounding just awful on everything else. kinda weird.

Could you please do an unbiased review on Philips X2hr. Or please tell me to which from above 3 is closely match with? I saw a lot of positive review about x2hr but few of them said its for bass heads and mids are not that good.

A good review. I would make one suggestion. When you are playing the test tracks, go back to the original before you play the next headphone. That helps us compare the next headphone to the original better. I did not like the way the 701s sounded, just like you said. A great job!
