The problem of getting AKG K701s is once people saw Mio Akiyama using them, they became more collectible (yes, we K-On fans can become obsessive).

people have used them for donkeys years for mixing

@@alanmansfield9109 But I'm saying that there are people who aren't in the professional audio/music business who want them just because of this flic.kr/p/6jN84u Heck, even *I'd* think of them for that. But unless I start doing video production (maybe doing training videos) I really don't need something this high end, as much as I might lust after them.

The K701 from Innerfidelity is Made in Austria with 7 headband bumps. The new K701 is Made in China with different warm sound. It’s different comparison to old reviews on the internet.

I dont have monitors. I always used headphones (yes the cheap ones). Seeing a lot of people criticizing headphones makes me want to buy a monitor. I have a cheap home teathet where i check the low end. If anyone wants to criticize my mixes i would love to.

I don't understand, why mixing in headphones is bad. First - as you mentioned, room treatment is costy (and monitors themselves). Second - I think headphones provide kinda raw and more direct sound, is it not preferable?
brine ryte, nice point about references, because it feels like you can use any sound system for mixing, if it translates frequencies relatively flat, just listen and analyze a lot. About "sound good in the headphones" - I have the opposite situation, my speakers sound very cool, they kinda have more space, while headphones just hit right in the ears.
@jamahlrawls35204 жыл бұрын
From what I’ve learned, the greatest drawback to mixing in headphones is that they don’t provide an accurate stereo image. It’s because sound from left and right doesn’t commingle in headphones as it does with near-field monitors. Your left ear only hears left and your right ear only hears right. I think maybe you lose stereo width in your mix this way since everything sounds wider in headphones. I think these drawbacks have become less important now that we have open-back headphones. In addition to that, I think more people listen to music in headphones/earbuds these days.
@alanmansfield91094 жыл бұрын

I was big fan of mixing only on headphones but the truth is it is really difficult to get punchy mix that sounds good everywhere without monitors. If it sounds good on monitors there is higher probability it will sound good on most devices. Found out about it the hardway :D The rule is ALLWAYS USE BOTH !!! Next thing the open headphones are good for mixing because they dont isolate low end in the space between your ear and membrane that much and therefore they are flater and more reliable for mixing :)

What are your opinion on Sonarworks reference 4?
@artjomspanasenko99625 жыл бұрын
Use Room EQ Wizard to measure and gererate correction of frequency response, then put these corrections in APO Equalizer with Fabfilter Pro q2 (or other decent VST EQ) enabled there as vst plugin( within APO EQ.) Use ASIO driver for all windows using 'voicemeeter banana". There is just no need in Sonarworks reference 4.
@christopherreyes93964 жыл бұрын
Sonarworks Reference 4 is amazing. The calibration process is a little tedious. But it'll even out the frequency spectrum pretty well. The difference in my mixes with Sonarworks vs. without it are night and day. With it, my mixes sound great on every system (cars, headphones, TVs, generic speakers). If you combine it with great reference monitors, and a well treated room, it's an awesome product
@christopherreyes93964 жыл бұрын
Also, the headphone option is great as well. They have presets for various headphones, but you could also send them your headphones and they'll make a customized calibration preset for your specific headphones

In my experience the headphones do lie in a sense that things sound better when listening through them. I am using Shure SRH840 along with Yamaha HS80M. My headphones are way too hi-fi sounding and I can't trust them. They are good for some details and for checking low end.

And of course guitar tones not so good in it cos' mids are lost in other frequencies. And now thinking how to improwe headphone sound - I mean replace DT770 on something better. K701 or maybe YAMAHA MT-8.. What do you think about it? You tried DT770? Thoughts?
