Yet ironically Tut's reign was pretty uneventful and he did little actual ruling as he was still a kid when he ascended the throne, and it was his advisers who did much of the governing in his name.

What a dumb comment, you don't know anything about Akhenaten. So called 'sun worship' is probably older than the many local Gods people had. Local Gods are often reflections the people itself and part of a larger cosmic order. The Sun, represents all life. Most Egyptians were simply too daft to grasp the idea of this impersonal God. Aten is not a God one can talk too; Aten is the cosmos, aten is everything. "No one,” says he, “seems to have realised until within this century, the truth which was the basis of Akhenaten’s worship: that the rays of the Sun are the means of the Sun’s action, the source of all life, power and force in the universe. This abstraction of regarding the radiant energy as all-important was quite disregarded until recent views of the conservation of force, of heat as a mode of motion, and the identity of heat, light and electricity, have made us familiar with the scientific conception which was the characteristic feature of Akhenaten’s new worship.” From 'The Lightning and the Sun' by Savitri Devi.

In an alternate timeline, if this dynasty wasn’t erased by egyptians, Tutankhamun's tomb could have been robbed, and his sarcophagus could have never been found by western archaeologists, and Hollywood would have never made the Classic Mummy movies, and we wouldn’t have the Brendan Fraser mummy movies, and then we wouldn’t have Dwane Johnson as the Scorpion King, but hey, this is just one path out of many other paths which history could have taken, this is Cody, from the AlternateHistoryHub. *plays Retrowave in the background

However, during the period known as the New Kingdom, in which Akhenaten ruled, the Egyption ruler became known as a pharaoh. They continued to still adress their ruler with “your majesty”. Pharaoh is the Greek form of the Egyptian pero or per-a-a, which was the designation for the Egyptian royal residence (definition = “Great House) and in time was used exclusively for the leader of the Egyptians.

Just finished writing a long essay for School on this guy, a few historical inaccuracies here and there but overall a good summary. For example, there is quite a lot of evidence to suggest that Akhenaten did openly deny the existence of other gods, making it Monotheistic. The temples of Amun/Amun-re were shut down and inscriptions in temples were replaced with the Aten. Naturally due to the importance of religion in Ancient Egyptian society the priesthood of Amun held lots of power, and naturally Atenism did take away lots of their power, some of which wouldn't even return when the old pantheon of gods were reinstated by by his son, Tutankhamun (fun fact his original name was Tutankhaten). And calling Akhenaten a heretic is accurate as he is often referred to as 'The Heretic King' or 'The Great Criminal'.

+LuigianoMariano, Just a heresy? No, he had monopolized entire cult, in essence what he had in mind can be explained easy, he had tried to reverse history, to bring back the times of Old Kingdom, when the king, not the pharaoh, for the title of pharaoh will come in use in the New Kingdom, was sole mediator between gods and people. Furthermore, he had diminished mortuary cults, which almost all ancient Egyptians considered as most important. Combine all that with a struggle for power between him and richest priesthood in the country, and you have a recipe for a disaster. Although some historians consider his religious reform as henoteistic, it was monotheistic in essence, but he had use it as a political tool.

The book and film "Sinuhe the Egyptian" sets place in the reign of Akhenaten and is said to be quite accurate in depicting ancient Egypt. The book is mostly fiction but the author did a lot of work to get the setting historically correct. It's a classic book and I definitely recommend reading it if you get the chance. It tackles a lot of topics regarding society that are relevant even in our times.

The main reason why average life expectancy was so short in ancient times was because somewhere around 8 times out of ten, most women back then would die whilst giving birth, as a lack of advanced medicine makes the process of giving birth much more dangerous. During the era of the Roman Republic, if we subtract the deaths caused by childbirth, the average lifespan jumps to somewhere around 70, something similar to what it is today. If I'm wrong, please correct me, as this is based off of some video that I vaguely remember watching a long time ago, and I am not for sure on it's validity, but since I heard EmperorTigerstar mentioned something about this at approximately 6:42, I thought that I'd pitch in my two cents.

I was led to beleive that, that erasing of people from the historical records was something that happened a few times in ancient Egypt, the other big example being Hapshetsut, the Woman Pharoh, since after her death, there was apparently a systamatic attempt to remove her from history, with thousands of monuments being altered or defaced to remove all mention of her name.

@NenadKanelic
@NenadKanelic 6 жыл бұрын
+weldowin, Thats correct, Hatshepsut was also eradicated from monuments, but not like Akhenaton who was sentenced to damnatio memoriae. Why she was eradicated? No one knows for sure, but one of the recent hypothesis is that she had committed a serious crime, that she had spoiled divine royal blood with a commoner, with Senenmut. The royal females had no right to do that, they had just two option, either to marry a male member of a royal family or to stay in celibacy.

And its oftentimes used to deny that Africans had any major civilizations at all, which is only true if you ignore the Ghana Empire, the Mali Empire, the Songhai Empire, Great Zimbabwe (not the modern country, the 13th century kingdom), Axum, Ethiopia, the many other Abyssinian kingdoms, and the Somali and Swahili trading city-states.

Akhenaten is a popular figure among the Ancient Astronaut crowd. A popular explanation for his affinity for bizarre narrow body-features is because it was his way of venerating, via bodily emulation, the Grays that supposedly descended to Ancient Egypt to interact with humans and grant them pyramid-building technology. #TheMoreYouKnow

Akhenaten was quite the art reformer. His artworks are different in style and the kind of things they depict when compared with previous Pharaohs. His artwork is generally considered to be a realistic depiction of him. It's also very likely that all the Pharaohs looked like him, due to the large amounts of incest present in the royal bloodline of Egypt.

Akhenaten's rejection of many many Egyptian gods could support the Exodus/Moses. His father acknowledged the people of Yahweh at his Temple at Soleb. His father (grandfather of King Tut) became Pharaoh because the 1st born Prince died unexpectedly. This could imply the Passover of the Exodus. It could imply the ten plagues actually happened that humbled the gods of Egypt and it's Pharaoh Amenhotep II - at the very zenith of Egyptian military power. Akenaten knowing all this realized that he needed a god greater than the multiple weak/inept gods of Egypt against the GOD Yahweh of the Hebrews. So he came up with a greater/greatest god of Egypt - Ra - to combat Yahweh.

Everyone is so misunderstood about Akhenaten. The high priest were selling idols, very powerful aristocrats with there own agendas. He said we should be worshipping the life giving sun. Something tangible you could actually see. He new the other Gods were just myth. He NEVER said he was a God or should be worshipped. He showed how he actually looked. Think about today if somebody said you know what catholic church i.e priest, you have to much power and your selling God. Therefore your done. He was a great Pharoah but as we know today it's hard to change the status quo and get rid of crooked people. He never destroyed other temples nor forced people to worship his God

One can say that in ancient Egypt there were attempts to erase all mention of Pharaoh Akhenaten and his one god, monotheistic religion. So, not much seems to be known about that religion today. And, beforehand there were attempts to remove the polytheistic religion of ancient Egypt. So, destruction both times. It's a pity the two religions couldn't have existed together in peace and harmony. Dogma does not work. There is also believed to be a connection between Moses and Akhenaten. I heard also that after Akhenaten there were still a small group of people who followed that religion.

You can nitpick it, but he was monotheistic basically. Say you decide that there is a single, capital G God, but the other, lower G gods still exist as some sort of really powerful beings like angels or jinns. Changing the meaning of the word "god" to refer to only one God would be a cherry on top of the shit sundae of the controversy and the conflict with the priests. So the two ways to go about describing the concept of this monotheism in those conditions is either saying that Aten is the only god worthy of worship because he is the only one who is all powerful while others are just very powerful or saying that Aten is a new thing above the beings referred to by the word "gods", which aren't even perfectly immortal in Egyptian religion/mythology. There isn't really a problem of whether the religion was monotheistic or polytheistic, there simply had been a problem of linguistic at the time, made worse by the conflict between the monotheistic and polytheistic understandings of divinity.

Ia Thanks as someone who studied it in school it wasn’t even that interesting tbh. Just showed how defunct the monarchy was by then. Baldwin the pm essentially intervened in the marriage of the king, showing how the House of Commons had overwhelming control over the country and could heavily influence the crown. Then the king abdicated because he wanted to marry Wallis Simpson and didn’t want to put up with all the shit that being king meant.

I think that the reason Akhenaten had his family drawn so weird and elongated was because in reality, they were aliens. He was the guy who built the pyramids, and rewrote history to make it seem like humans built the pyramids. But this upset the great alien overlord Aten, who removed him from power, and then had history wiped out so we wouldn't find out.

My question is how in the heck does any one individual know how the people thousands of years ago were thinking...and actually doing and when...and their opinions.. does anyone even think that the understanding of hieroglyphics to derive these theories are even true! It’s an interpretive opinion at best... I have read of the elongated skulls , I also have read of akenuthen strange dna? ... this whole interpretation could be far from the real truth.
