Akhlys’ ability to create the most nightmarish sonic atmospheres is almost cinematic in nature. They could easily score horror and suspense films with their penchant for labyrinthian, madness-inducing soundscapes. I have never heard a band sound so, so evil. It’s almost physically frightening to listen to. I love it

Thaaats a bit of a stretch. It has cinematic quality for sure, but that doesnt mean it would fit in a movie. Subtlety is something this band has no clue how to incorporate in their music. It is absolute chaos, to the nth degree. Music in cinema can be torturous and evil but its not blasting at 200 decibels. Imagine a movie with this soundtrack? It would simply be too loud. What space for movie left is there? Its like when people say metal is "modern" classical music, you can play in a classical style, but that doesnt mean it will translate well to actual classical music and instrumentation
@KyleATW4 ай бұрын
I’m not saying that their musical discography would directly translate to film, that’s far too literal of an imagining. What I meant was that their ability to create a nightmarish atmosphere is almost cinematic. If they so chose to score a film, obviously they wouldn’t make songs exactly like they would for an album. Just saying that they are perfectly capable of creating ominous musical layers and textures that would compliment film and portray another layer of dread to the audience.

@@markd7933 The term cinematic for music doesn't mean that this is comparable to an OST. It means that is music that focuses on developing sonicscapes you can almost see and there's a musical description of the space that make you immersed and part of it.

They have done it yet again... and yet they have done THIS version of "it" for the first time, like they have always done before. At this point, Akhlys has proven that they have the intention - deliberately or as a natural occurrence (bit of both, I imagine) - of taking us deeper into the darkness than we can ever predict or prepare for with every release, despite believing we were already at the terminal depths of that journey during and after the last release. But maybe it isn't really about a "journey" after all, but rather about the distinct forms of an essence which appear to be in motion but simply take on new form when the previous nightmarish incarnation has been even remotely adjusted to - like a shapeshifting hydra of the psyche who's primary power is to always mutate into something you can never prepare for, never subdue, and never forget. I can honestly say I have never had so much faith in a band that is so elusive. What a fascinating experience it is to be alive with this music. I look forward to this albums power unravelling as I continue immersing in it, even in contemplation when it is speaking to me without the music playing. This. This is what black metal truly is. This is the lost arte and no matter what illusions we entertain throughout life and death, this is what we belong to in the end. If you are listening to this music or ever have, wherever you are or were -- it is not the music or what it is imbued with throughout that is in there with you, as if you're something happening to it... no, YOU are trapped in there with it, and it is happening to you. Might as well become acquainted now because you will meet again even when it isn't taking the form of music and it is no longer called Akhlys... This is darkness. This is death.

Black metal, from the moment it channels that fierce spirit, has no musical limits but the self-imposed limits of those involved. - DSO From my perspective, Black Metal is more than just a genre of music but more so a vessel of sinister realities made manifest in the form of sound. It's the encounter with the dark facets of existence that lead to this genesis. Usually created by individuals that have gone through a lot of suffering and existential dread on the one side and non conformity towards societal norms on the other side. That's the spirit of Black Metal. I'm glad to see it living on in exceptional Bands like Akhlys - and so the torch goes on. When it's time, I'll contribute my own exertion to Black Metal.

@@0x20pirate Thanks. I guess this matter is viewed according to one's personal inclanation or lack thereof. Blake perfectly put it like this: The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Or in this case: For some Black Metal is a briliant work of otherwordly darkness while for others it is just noise that's at least worth a troll. On another note it goes to show once more how through the decay of the internet age every fleshed out thought that's longer than a few words gets frowned upon as it is seemingly so far out there. Nietzsches last man is indeed a graspable concept considering how things are devolving. I'm not anticipating that this conversation is amounting to much.
