Definitely. It's interesting how hand-drawn animation stands the test of time. Even the old Disney films from the 40's still look incredible and have some of the most technically impressive and difficult character animation. Akira did use a little bit of assistance from computers. The only scenes I can think of that use CGI explicitly are the shots with Dr. Onishi studying the Akira pattern, which was computer generated. Also, computers were used to assist in plotting the path of objects and also to tweak the lens flares on the bikes. Still, very minimal use of computers in an otherwise completely hand-made film. I'm definitely happy to be able to animate digitally now, as the price of cels and paints would put common folk like me out of business.

And this is 1/4th of the overall runtime? Wow, truly a timeless feat in animation and production! Awesome stuff as always

Yep, Akira was made in 4 parts: A,B,C and D. This book covers only a small portion of the scenes in section A and some of B. There's gonna be two more volumes covering the other sections.
