Third day I actually took Kiwi for a walk on my own and went further than expected came across three squirrels playing I made kiwi sit and watch them she was trembling but sat I then waited for her to finish and she gave me eye contact so we moved forward sorry I could not video the amazing experience but I had no spare hands one proud mommy.

Amazing work! Can I ask, do you ever receive a negative reaction from the public when you use prong collars, and do you find that clients are comfortable with the idea of using them or do you sometimes have to persuade them that they really are amazing tools?
@geoffreydollebalanceddogtr16696 жыл бұрын
Chloe yes I do get some person of the public sometimes but if they’re not open minded and ready to learn how it works I just walk away! I never force it on any of my clients but most of the time now they do ask about it after seeing the work and want to know more and are prepared to show them how it works and see if it works in they’re Dogs and as it does then they want to be thought how to use it the right way! I hope this answers your question Chloe and if you have anymore questions about anything to do with dog training feel free to ask I’m always happy to help!

Geoffrey Dollé Balanced Dog Trainer Thank you very much for the answer! I currently use ecollars but have been hesitant on using and recommending prongs as I wasn’t sure if there would be a huge backlash. This has helped put my mind at ease.
@geoffreydollebalanceddogtr16696 жыл бұрын
Chloe if used properly they are great so are e-collars I always let my client know about slip lead prong collar and e-collar and then let them decide most of them go for the slip lead and if that doesn’t work for them then switch to prongs and eventually depending on how far they want to take the Training e-collar!

Does a prong collar hurt the dog?
@geoffreydollebalanceddogtr16697 жыл бұрын
David McDonald not if used correctly the prong helps kiwi’s owner to be in control with minimum effort we didn’t just put the collar on and went out we first spend time with kiwi showing her how this tool helps us communicate clearly with her via pressure on pressure off once she understood the concept then we went for a walk

It’s for training the dog this girl had a full grown Akita on a prong leach and the dog would still go crazy and pull no matter what with dogs going by

You are lucky she must be an Akita cross. Definitely not an Inu. No way for an Inu to do anything that's not necessary like walking right next to the owner at all time. He would sit or throw himself on the ground and refuse to move. Inus won't make much effort for a treat.😂

Was just thinking watching around 8 min mark, couldn't you simply walk the dog in and out of the doorway first repeatedly remembering to make them sit each way and look, This could teach the dog just because the door is open and collar/harness is on doesn't necessarily mean the dog will go for a walk so it won't be so pushy and excited to leap out the door? It could calm the dog down and listen more when leaving the door~ (I am not saying what you did was wrong in anyway, I'm just curious ^u^)
@geoffreydollebalanceddogtr16696 жыл бұрын
Time Abandoned yes you could do that ! And that’s down to the owners to do ! As my main focus for the session was for the lady owner to be able to walk her own dog as with a bad hip can not be dragged around as it could be end up badly for the owner so we focussed on that and I find that the prong collar is the safest tool to make sure the dog pays full attention to the owner !
@timeabandoned25826 жыл бұрын
Alright :) Thank you and it all makes sense, there is huge debate on prong collars and people are trying to petition them to become illegal, some say it can make the dog fearful or aggressive and has been known to leave super deep wounds in dogs however I've watched Cesar Millan and your works and the dogs seem fine. So just curious as to your opinion on it all? I don't think I'd use it but I don't despise it as I'v seen it work with responsible trainers etc~
@geoffreydollebalanceddogtr16696 жыл бұрын
Time Abandoned it’s like anything in life in the wrong hands they can get a bad name but if used correctly the way they were design for they are great communication device they give clear guidance to your dog ! It’s great that even if your not keen you are still open minded on the subject! Respect for that ! Regarding all the bad press against them making holes in Dogs neck the only ways that could happen is if you buy a cheap Chinese crap or the collar is left on the dog all the time and the dog grew got bigger but no one made the collar bigger or some sick people out there filing the ends to make them sharp! But you could say the same about flat collars and harnesses but because they look kinder to the eye and people are happy to use those the wrong way most of the time witch create more discomfort to a dog than a prong would used properly they still keep they’re eyes shut on that they only want to see what they want!

Thanks for your responses, I hope you alright with all the questions aha, I'm in college atm finishing up my first year on an animal management course, I am struggling on whether I want to go for the next level up, or another course and something that bothers me is I am unsure if I'd like to work as a zookeeper, dog groomer, pet shop owner (where I wish to re-home shelter animals, not from breeders

Time Abandoned the hard bit about being a dog trainer is building your business get your name out there the way you train can have a big play in this as everybody loves positive only training but unfortunately this way doesn’t work with difficult casses Balanced training does the result shows for itself Most of the time dogs are easy it’s training the owners that can be challenging ! I learn from watching trainers work and found out what style I preferred and then looked for more trainers using Balanced méthodes and take what I like asked a lot a question took everything on board learning about dog behaviour and so on
