Good job. My Akita also did great with training and socialization. He was great around other dogs and cats but he always hated coyotes. We'd frequently see one or two on our walks. We lived in Az.. They're the only animal he didn't want around. He'd always give them that "I want to hurt you look". I didn't let him of course. After a couple of encounters, the coyotes learned to stay out of his way. Khan passed in 2005 from an aggressive cancer in his chest. One day, he suddenly became weak and I immediately took him to his vet. He never showed any symptoms or signs of anything being wrong. My then wife was a vet tech and he saw the vet far more than most dogs.Three weeks later he was gone. I was devastated. He was everything an Akita was supposed to be, aside from being close buddies with a Siamese cat. He'd actually let the cat eat from his bowl WHILE he was eating. Weird cat...he liked dog food. I don't think a day has gone by that I don't shed a tear for Khan. It's been almost 15 yrs and I'm just now considering getting another Akita. They're the only breed I'll ever own. If you've ever had an Akita, you'll definately understand. I know there are other great breeds out there but the Akita stands apart. Keep up the great work in training ! Love the video !

@Lou No, an Akita, either Japanese or American, is not a good choice for a first time owner. IMO, neither is a Rottweiler or a Doberman. If you are adamant about getting one of these breeds though, I'd opt for the Doberman.

What a BEAUTIFUL Akita Louis is there! I'm an all-around dog lover, but IMO, fewer breeds can match up to the strength/beauty of a WELL-trained Akita. Great job on your part, and it gives me more confidence to buying an Akita as an everyday dog. Unfortunately, some municipalities here in the US forbid ownership of Akitas, much the same as they do with Pit Bulls. I know once an Akita makes up his/her mind that it is going to to after something with aggression, that is one SCARY dog, so maybe more-than-a-few such incidents have resulted in some cities/towns banning Akita ownership, but who knows? Either way, I absolutely almost everything about the Akita, as it demands that their owner also has his/her shit together, before getting this magnificent breed.

I’ve used head collars on obstinate dogs and they worked wonders. Might try that. Gives you more control and since he’s so big and strong you won’t be wore out at the end of a walk and you can curb his response to the other dog as soon as you feel his body tense instead of waiting for him to lunge. Beautiful dog.

Noticed a HUGE difference when I've got my girl on a head collar (when I can get it on her lol -- still needs time getting used to it, if she ever will). Once it's on, controlling her on walks have been a breeze -- though there is still some fidgeting (trying to get it off) and pulling if there's too much external stimuli, but today I actually got her to sit when 2 other dogs were passing her by at the park. I think my vet was right in that harnesses actually encourage pulling.
@MixieMooz10 ай бұрын
I got my A.Akita on both a head collar and harness with a lead that connects at both ends. Much easier to walk as the headcollar being the main part, the harness is useful as she's reactive so I can pull her body as well as her head away.

My American Akita was worse than this. Unfortunately, I was a first time dog owner and didn't really research the breed before getting him For Ares, the harness made the situation worse. The trainer I got didn't recommend them. Just a normal lead and flat collar. When I was trained 🤣 how to properly use them and give corrections, it really worked for me. I really enjoy our nightly walks now instead being dragged down the street or being flat on my behind when he lunged trying to get to other animals

The males are a bit harder to train over all but wow are they loving and fun dogs. The females can be easier to train. Tho they do get a bit more moody. Not aggression wise but just moody. I truly love Akitas. Would not have any other dog. Mine are fantastic with kids. As we have kids and there friends are always over our house. Great animals.

@@aliyahadaanni Hi, it's been about a year and a half, Yoshi is well mannered for the most part. He doesn't emergency recall that well but he can do any of the commands. I don't walk him off leash because of the dangers of other dogs that may be off leash. You really have to continue the training once you get your dog back.. With Yoshi being and Akita, he has a thick floofy neck and they had to use prongs on his e-collar.. It turned out he was allergic to the metal so they had to get some titanium prongs.. He had sores on his neck that I wasn't happy about.. Aside from that, he really does respond well with the e-collar but I choose not to use it because of the prongs. All in all I'd say he is a lot more behaved and I don't regret sending him for the 2 weeks. Do you have an Akita too? Here is Yoshi's Off Leash Training Video! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJnGnKuBYrJ5qJY

Sorry you mean akita this dog is a proud dog a stubborn dog but lovely dog who has a weird crazy sence of humour it's important to socialize this breed from moment you get it with people other animals ect and always socialize it they do have a bad reputation if owner not raised them properly but if your asking what breed you won't get a better dog than an akita if raised rite if not can have mega consinquences but all 3 are big challenging dogs it's what ever you prefer remember They are with you for life not just for few months so do your research on all breeds
@elphiena4 жыл бұрын
Socializing your dog doesn’t mean introductions with strange people and dogs. You want him to be uninterested in other dogs and people and your doing him a disservice by letting people pet him or meet with other dogs on the leash. You need to be what your Akita focuses on and is interested in, not the environmental distractions. When you teach him to focus on you during all sorts of new situations, he is properly socialized. When my dogs are on their leash, they are working. They love it.

I’m not ready to open my heart, and, home to another Akita. However, I run into people who guard the names of their breeders like they’ll be executed for sharing information. I, honestly do not understand.
