The centrosome replicates during the S phase of the cell cycle. During the prophase in the process of cell division called mitosis, the centrosomes migrate to opposite poles of the cell..

I have one question. I thought the centrosome was an MTOC and contained 2 centrioles perpendicular to each other. Therefore, shouldn't the spindle poles be made of centrosomes and not centrioles?

Cytokinesis begins in anaphase and terminates towards the end of telophase according to Becker’s WOC.

The kinetochore of each chromosome is actually first contacted by a spindle fiber during prophase, and the chromosomes are then lined up during metaphase. This might seem like a small detail but initial contact between the spindle apparatus and kinetochore occurs in PROPHASE, not metaphase as the video seems to imply.

Don't know if anyone will answer but I got a bit confused when you said that in humans there will be 43 chromosomes lined up during metaphase, would that be the same as 23 pairs?

Your vids have been a life saver for me man, I really appreciate it. Question though, after listening to a few different biology lectures before finding your channel, why have I noticed them pronouncing the word "pro-ces-sees" as opposed to "pro-ces-sis" if you can understand what I mean. Is there a difference? Just curious
@Midgar88
@Midgar88 8 жыл бұрын
+select20 The processees would be more then one process. So i imagine they were talking about 2 processes going on at once. Procesis should be one, i could be wrong but it will be a grammer thing :)
@select20
@select20 8 жыл бұрын
Isn't that was "processes" means? Plural? Totally being for real, not being sarcastic at all. I've never had to study as hard as I am with Biology so I'm all for understanding even the lingo lol.
@Midgar88
@Midgar88 8 жыл бұрын
select20 Yeah but i think its just the pronunciation. You might be looking too deeply into it :). Google it. Easy done when learning this stuff. Keep it as simple as possible and learning will be more efficient.
@Midgar88
@Midgar88 8 жыл бұрын
select20 Or it might mean former or latter? processes that has occurred? Would be nice in a sentence :P

They divide/replicate under the G1 phase in interphase I believe and when the cell splits i guess they are just in the right place?

Now to confirm. In human somatocells there is a point where 92 chromosome pairs exist before disjunction?
@marcelofa89
@marcelofa89 7 жыл бұрын
no! before replication every chromosome consists of one chromatid. during S-Phase, it is copied thus turning into a two-chromatid-chromosome. so when you enter mitosis, (first part of M-Phase) you have 92 CHROMATIDS on total
