This Al-Anon speaker Velta S. has a great message for newcomers, by hoping she never gets too spiritual to forget the primary purpose, and believing it’s okay to love an Alcoholic. She explains that if you haven’t worked the steps and are struggling alone, then you don’t have to. She also points out that if someone else’s drinking is driving you crazy, then Al-Anon has a solution for you!
Velta fell in love with a man who could make her laugh, had a baby face, and was 7 years sober in Alcoholics Anonymous. When she went to her first Al-Anon meeting she likened the experience to the television show "Cheers", where you’re welcomed, cared about, and everybody knows your name. Enjoy!

Velta, I’m here in 2023 hearing your message for the first time. Thank you for speaking your truth! I’m wanting to learn to use my voice to speak mine. I wish you serenity in your journey.

He's drunk beside me n I'm listening to this trying to understand some of the things he's said n reacted to that he wouldn't usually. I'm trying to be supportive n trying to understand how after a year sober he went right back to drinking nightly when things took a left turn. Ugh please pray for us!!!

Thank you, Velta, for your clear, concise Alanon message. You said just what I needed to hear. "G-d takes things that we think are terrible and turns them into incredible blessings." And how you have a whole new way of accepting things that are intolerable....and not accepting them. Thanks again for your share!

"I've never done anything for the right reasons..." Yep! Ha ha. Doesn't matter -- God uses us where we are to bring us where He wants us to be. :)

I got my first sponsor so the 'normie' guy I was dating would think I was taking my AA program seriously. It still worked in the end.

Alcoholism is a family disease 1 persons opinion doesn't change that, but sometimes we don't realize the hard truths about this until we are in the program for some time. Keep coming back!

I went to an Al-anon meeting to explain what is addiction and to confirm my theory that liars fool liars. Liars reject the truth. Victimism runs in families. Partners of addicts act out the role of martyr, believe the addict is a victim and want others to believe the same. The tragedy of addiction is children who revenge a childhood hurt, or trauma, against their parents becoming victims of themselves so as to conceal the hatred to hurt others.

Oh. Sofia. I am keeping you in my prayers. I go to stepchat these days. During the pandemic. What I say to newcomers is "keep coming back". Find any meeting or combination of meetings and just keep coming back. Eventually, right under your own nose, a miracle will happen. Sending you love, Rebekah

If you marry him and have children knowing what you know now, YOU will be responsible for the abuse your children will receive. Stop having sex with him or get your tubes tied. That is your choice.
