You have to realize though that 90% of straight Guys DO "laugh it off" mainly because we are used to being insulted from Day One by the time you get to your Teens, most Guys have built up a strong defence and also, most of us, love Banter. Just see any Group of Male friends and the insults will fly. It is when we DON'T insult someone that someone needs to worry whereas Women know other Women can be really sensitive about their looks or age etc so,rarely, banter with each other and go for the much easier target i.e.Men..lol

4:00 If that is the only time you saw Al speechless or put down, it's because you've only seen these one-side compilations. I have the entire set, there are 259 episodes and Marcy is constantly starting it with Al. The scene where Al tells Marcy a kid would starve to death if she breast fed it, was season 7 ep 1 and Marcy came uninvited and began making fun of Al's salary and insulting him as a father before Al said a thing to her.

Yeah, we do miss context with these compilations. And the thing is you can do them for so many of the characters on the show. ALL the regulars had their moments to shine and to be the hero or the villian or to be the butt of the joke.

Al and Marcy hated each other for their sociological differences. As someone who actively watches this show even to this day (You can find it on Hulu) I can say that these jokes are just the tip of the iceberg of hate from these two. The interesting thing to note is that the actors actual hated each other offscreen as well. Also to note that the actress that played Marcy wrote all the interactions between her and Al.

In truth they did actually dislike each other. But both were professional and the actor who played Al has always stood by her when she had problems in her real life. And pump up Bra's do exist for women who have had mastectomies.

O'Neill confronted her about not being invited. "I said, 'Amanda, what is funny about two women in tuxedos walking down the church aisle?' I started laughing, and she said, 'See!' Georgia, both inflatable (pump-up) bras and water bras are real. As a teen, my friend's mother used to use them (we didn't have a clue and thought she was naturally large in certain places) and we were all enamored of her ... until the day her water bra sprung a leak. We felt so lied to and disappointed. Teens crushing on a busty divorcee is a hopeless scenario in itself but when the dream springs a leak it all goes down like the Titanic.

There was talk years ago that Marci was actually the one who wrote almost ALL the jokes for the entire show. Some said that wasn't completely true, but she could go head to head with anybody, because she was quick, & snappy with jokes, & comebacks back then. Other big folks being insulted on the show are also comedians. Like the black woman. She's the head comic for Tyler Perry's stage shows, & movies to this day... AKA: Aunt BAM. Her mouth has no control. They are real-deal queens of comedy. Insults don't phase them in the least. They'll tear you a new one verbally in a heart beat. :)

This show was and still is a fan favorite, it might not be politically correct in todays environment, funny, yes. I enjoyed watching your reaction and laughs, your accent is also very nice to hear as you question the show. The first reaction I found you on was Al Bundy, now we've come full circle, 😂😂. Married With Children is a great show, highly recommend watching full episodes. That is not her boyfriend, that is Marcy's husband. Her first husband, Steve Rhoades (He was in one of the middle clips when she asked "why does he keep calling me a chicken"). Her second husband, the one in the majority of these clips is Jefferson Darcy, yes Marcy's name is Marcy Darcy. But they're Al's like relatively rich annoying neighbors who always barge in, while Al is a poor shoe salesman who hates his job and family. But yeah, great show. Trading insults dates back to before television or even radio. The Greeks and Romans partook. Greeks even had a profession (called Sophists) whose goal was to win arguments from the weaker intellectual position. They were also teachers and philosophers, so it's not like they just went around insulting people. Norse/Danish (Viking) culture had a recognized pastime called Flyting which is extremely similar to "rap battles". Long before Al Bundy, old farts will remember Archie Bunker trading insults with various guests and neighbors. Redd Foxx, on his show "Sanford and Son" sparred with guest constantly, most famously Aunt Esther. I'd guess guys like this type of humor more, but women are equally equipped to master the art if they want to, perhaps the best example being Mae West.

If you watch the rest of any one of these Al-Marcy insult-offs in the full scenes, she always has something to fire back with, many times the better burn. There just as easily could be a Best of Marcy Insults compilation video. It was awesome watching her character go from being the butt of the joke the first season to completely roasting Al back by season two and then both worthy adversaries when Steve left the show and Jefferson was her new beau. Marcy rules.

Al Bundy the roast master. Before roasting people was a thing just comedians did. Back in those days you had to have thick skin to insults. I use to get it about my runny 👃. It's easier than the alternative trying to go toe to toe with someone that's got all the come backs, especially if your shy. Or over time you use to develop how to do them yourself.
