So unbelievably refreshing to watch an informed and intelligent political discussion that wasn't based upon identifying a minority group and beating-up hate toward them.

I could be wrong here (speaking as a Canadian) but the one thing that stood out to me about the reaction to the pandemic was the fact the one of the first Americans of renown to get to work and deal with the situation (putting her money where her mouth was) was Dolly Parton.

It wasn’t even the GOP that was mainly calling for his resignation (at least among the elected. & TBF that could have been bc they wanted to see the Dems in disarray and not out of principle). The Dems overreacted to thinking they’d be seen as hypocritical after calling out Trump. Franken wasn’t in Trump’s zip code, even for the things that were confirmed as true.

Comedians must be super intelligent to find humor in some dark places and guide an audience to see it. PW was no schlep, but I was barely old enough to recognize how much of an impact he made. He got me into politics via a friend. But I remember Al running and meeting him on the trail. And then representing us in the senate. Giant, indeed. And Lies was my intro to him, and it's still a favorite. Genuinely awesome human being. I wish he'd never retired. He could've weathered the storm. But he's too upstanding for that. Unlike a lot of the leches plaguing politics today. I will die on the "Al should've never left" hill.

26:06 Birth control can literally help save lives, or at the very least make it so women can work normal jobs (BC os used to regulate painful diseases like Endometriosis and polycystic ovaries). Its also used to help BALANCE moods and also control hormones for a ton of hormonal imbalance issues/disorders. I get that men like this think of a women isn't constantly pregnant or getting pregnant, she is wasting vaulable space on this planet, but you just try and get into your wife's pants after she's spent three days in the bathtub sobbing from pain. YOU CAN'T JUST VILLIANIZE A MAJOR PART OF WOMEN'S HEALTH JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE *ONE* OF ITS USES.
@HellHag.

They’ll do ya one better and just villainize us as an entire gender. They see us as unworthy of existence, less than, subservient beings…but since there’s so many of us they’ll settle for brood sow or indentured servitude. If we won’t be constantly silent and pregnant, they’ll keep trying to stomp till we are. We are literally asking for the ability to exist the way we see fit and nothing more, and I don’t think we should have to ASK TO EXIST, but keep pushing us. We might end up wanting more than just equality. This goes for any marginalized group currently being attacked for not fitting into a white conservative christian nationalist box. To claim to be a “superior gender” and then be so terrified of women having any power or agency is a level of childish hypocrisy that if it wasn’t so fucking damaging to society writ large, it would be hilarious.

"The current scenario of a top criminal running for president is reminiscent of a time in American history marked by sheer chaos, akin to the violent era of the 1830s. Back then, men engaged in brutal street battles fueled by ethnic and religious disputes, political party henchmen instigated riots during elections, and occurrences of assault and mayhem were so frequent that they appeared ordinary. It's a portrayal of America regressing to tumultuous times, with a figure like Trump at the forefront."

13:31 The failure to advertise and properly campaign a message of hope for the future is what will be the Democrats downfall. Democrats need to clearly explain the difference between what Republicans want and what Democrats want our goals and clearly and concisely state who we are and state unequivocally what Republicans are. A message of hope is the only path forward . And a message explaining to Americans that their healthcare choices and their bodily autonomy is on the line. These should be pounded in the media every single day in every media outlet Instead of talking about climate change, talk about the necessity to make sure we have clean air, clean safe, drinking water and uncontaminated food. talk about the very real threats and consequences of natural disasters that face us. You need to educate the public and simultaneously give them hope . Give us the American dream back!!!

I would like to hear Al Franken’s reflection on his attitude toward women and how that reflects personal growth or the lack thereof and how that reflects changes in society and or lack thereof and ideas about equality, respect and the future of democracy.🎉

Oh, Al, I wish you were still in the senate. (Btw that was not AI as in artificial intelligence.) Your intelligence is absolutely natural, as is your humor! Love you!

In comparison to NYC? I don't think you are right. As a Minnesotan my community benefited enormously by an integrated multi-religious culture. Not Jewish myself, I truly think I learned ways of thinking, questioning, acting as Jews, simply by being educated in that community. The history of how Jews were treated in Minnesota was one reason Hubert Humphrey , v.p. under LBJ, was known to fight anti-Semitism as mayor of Minneapolis. Lots changed as a result. He saw it as a human rights issue. Quite a story is his.

I appreciate your recognition of the post-pandemic psycho-social effects. Throughout recorded history , when a population experiences piles of dead bodies in the streets/roads/ditches, etc. records that survived noted changes in behaviours. We need to be "gentle & patient with each other.....although, that's easier to recommend than to enact.

I love Al Franken and I have always loved him since he first appeared on SNL. My college roommate would come up to me and “beep beep Al Franken” and I would just loose it. I still love him.
