What I really like about Pacino is his eyes. It conveys both innocence and intimidation if he commands it. Look at his performance in the Godfather I, from the start he seemed so sweet and charming which gradually changed to someone you do not want to in the room with.

Very soulful eyes his character in the Godfather gradually loses his soul he's pretty much doomed after his first wife is killed imo a part of him died with her and all the potential for the traditional marriage and life he wanted though maybe he would have been abusive to her he was to Kay and Connies husband abused her also they were really terrible people violent malicious etc.

@@dora1980 I don't think he's shy at all. A lot of people think they're shy when they aren't at all. Because they feel a little anxiety in social situations, which EVERYONE does. A genuinely shy person would fall apart in front of a camera and global fame. De Niro is a genuinely shy person. He looks visibly uncomfortable and inarticulate in almost all his interviews.

I miss how interviews used to be. Now everything is such high energy and people have their answers ready to go. So loud, bright and in your face. And god forbid anyone appear downbeat or "depressed". Whenever I watch older interviews (i.e. Dick Cavett etc) they seem like people just having a genuine conversation. They're not yelling into the camera. They're speaking slowly, taking time to answer, taking time to let the other finish their thought. It just seems like an environment that fosters REAL interviews with interesting conversations. .....Also this has nothing to do with anything but god DAMN Al Pacino was fine as hell back in the day. I wish I could time travel back to the early 70s just so I could let Pacino destroy me lol

I loooooveee this Alpacino look, the long messy hair, the clean face, and his big eyes accentuated by the liner on his lashes and top it with the soft voice and mannerisms, is more on the *“beautiful”* side than the “handsome” one, *almost androgynous, damn.*
@nickynicks_
@nickynicks_ 3 жыл бұрын
You had me with ya until you said androgynous... he's anything but androgynous. In fact, I'd say that he was the perfect representation of a beautiful man. And beautiful doesn't mean feminine, it means, well, magnetic or mesmerizing! He was almost angelic, like one of those Roman sculptures or Renaissance paintings. In fact I would even say that he reminds of what a Roman god must like look, or like a dark angel... Anyways, I'm getting too poetic here. Pacino was just a damn gorgeous man who oozed masculinity. And not that stereotypical masculinity (like macho), he had an aura of silent power and charisma in his characters. Even as Tony Montana, who is one of his wildest characters...

By mid 80's his voice, personality and looks all turned very hard - but In a good way. In dog day afternoon he looks one of those pretty Italian boys. In Gidfather 1 and 2 he looks like a tough handsome med type. In scent of a woman he looks a magnetic and charismatic older tycoon type.

Thank you so very much for posting this. As a student of Literature, I can't tell you how happy I feel to know that Pacino had a great liking for Shakespeare especially the number of times he mentioned Hamlet's soliloquies... If I had a time machine, I'd love to go back to 60s and 70s to be in the era of the young Al Pacino and Robert Redford ... two people I have GREAT admiration for as actors and as humans...

I seen Al in person at the Booth Theater in New York 1983 10 years after this interview, at the Booth he did American Buffalo. I still have the playbill. When he came out the back door, there we were waiting. Only 5’7 “but appears magnificent on screen.As he drove off in his black Cherokee Jeep my wife nearly got whacked by the front bumper. Here he just finished Michael Corleone, and was getting ready to do Serpico, Go t not grown. Al is an icon method Actor under Charlie Laughton, and Lee Strasberg. All will go down as the best Actor ever because of the rolls he chose.

It’s so sad we don’t have more interviews from this era. Al was always just a mystery and wanted his privacy, and then he expressed his emotions and gave everything to his performances. it says a lot when even decades later we still admire and love Al and all the rich work he’s given us. His face and eyes are so…. human. there’s no one to touch him, even among his contemporaries. A hundred years, Al 🤍👏🏼

It's great that Al loved the theatre. Here, he is about to do Richard III, Shakespeare. No matter how successful he became in film, he would always return to the stage, his first love. A brilliant actor, and an engaging man.

That's what I respect & admire most about Al Pacino, he's always referred to himself as an actor not a movie star! But as we know he navigates both with equal aplomb! BTW Richard III was amazing & you simply must see Wilde Salome & Salome! Incredible!
