In 1977 I was walking south on a Lexington AVe sidewalk in NYC. Al was walking north wearing a green army-navy jacket. He was devastatingly handsome a la Bobby Deerfield. I froze in my tracks. I am still surprised that I saw him as I usually did not check every face walking by and he blended in because of his casual attire. After about 20 seconds I started breathing again and continued to my destination. After all this time its still an easy memory to retrieve.

Not too many people have ever seen Bobby Deerfield. Even the staunch Pacino fans I find have never seen it. 🙆

Same thing happened to me in 1980 ...he was walking toward a hot dog stand and I was there as well...I thought I would faint..the poor hot dog dog guy was holding me up 😂 Anyway we talked A little while..he was absolutely gorgeous and kind...extremely sexy. I still have the napkin he signed for me. Marvelous moment

I passed him walking north up Madison ave.coming out of work late that night .I just remember him looking very brooding and hungry..I think he was appearing in American Buffalo at the time which I also saw..he seemed almost wolf-like coming up the street...

Worked as an extra on the scene with Pacino, Di Caprio and Pitt directed by Tarantino in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Took us 5 full days to film. To be a fly on those walls was quite an experience.

Always loved Al Pacino. Soon after Serpico was released, I was walking briskly in the freezing cold to my part-time college job near the U.N. in NYC. As I rounded the corner, I bumped into a young man dressed down in a pea jacket, wool cap, and sneakers. When I looked up, I saw it was Al Pacino. My heart froze along with my voice. He quickly moved on away from the cold. I was stunned. As I attempted to tell him how much I admired his work, he was long gone. I remember him as if it were yesterday. He was/is my hero.

Pacino was always nuts. He's old now but when he was younger he was out on a limb. Fortunately he was able to channel this in a creative direction. No one could have played the character in Dog Day Afternoon better than he did. He totally inhabited that character's world. If the phrase "he became the character" means anything, it applies to Pacino in that roll. I haven't seen the movie in 40 years but I still remember it vividly. "Attica !! Attica !!" LOL

Funny you say that. Al is my first cousin, once removed (haven’t seen him in decades). I have a vivid childhood memory of him from my great grandparents 50th wedding anniversary in the 60’s, where he laid down and pretended he was a snake slithering around the floor. We all thought he was nuts. 😂

The actors studio was a place where creative people had complete freedom. when the great teachers passed on so did the studio. Sad to say it is a shell of its former self. We will never see the likes of the great legends from the past. Although the studio never brought Shakespeare to a national theater. I wonder why? In its full glory the studio was the clearing house of a new acting style that was uniquely American and the influence spread all over the world. Marlon being its most prominent exponent. Al Pacino and his generation are the children of Brando. I miss these guys terribly.

Pacino’s right that audiences didn’t want to see Michael repent of his sins in Part 3. I always thought 3 was a superbly made movie, like the first 2. IMO, the audience hatred of it, was really their hatred of Michael “weakening” in the 3rd. They want to be gangsta themselves (in their minds), so they felt betrayed by Michael’s growth as a human being.

This is a great episode but it bothers me that they showed that particular clip of angels in America and cut it off where they did, rather than let it play for 5 more seconds. Because they left out the punchline! Roy/Al does his speech about homosexuals and how he isn’t one because he has clout and power, then he asks the doctor “So, what do I have?” And the doctor looks at him soberly and repeats once more, “You have AIDS, Roy.” Which is what he told him in the beginning. Because that’s the point - that’s what it comes down to in the end. Roy can talk all he wants about power and labels and how he will never be a “homosexual”, but it *is* all bullshit and sophistry because in the end Roy is going to die along with his unacknowledged brothers in the same horrific way, whether he likes it or not. Power counts for nothing in the end.

So was Al Pacino's performance in Scent of A Woman more Oscar worthy than Glengarry Glen Ross? Or Serpico? What about The Godfather? I think that he was much better in The Insider, and he wasn't even nominated for that one. It was a better movie than Scent of A Woman, also I think.
