As a huge EJ fan, this interview is like gold to me. It's probably the one of the best EJ interviews I've heard because he shows us just how he creates the songs he composes. Elton is incredibly honest, witty and extremely talented, and what I really love is that he has never failed to give Bernie Taupin his props as a lyricist. They are probably one of the greatest songwriting teams of my lifetime. I was glad he credited soul music as the basis of his work because he really is a soulful person if you listen to his music. It's not just pop music, it's something that touches the very heart of you and he puts his true emotions into it, which is basically the essence of what soul music is. Elton is a living legend, one that we'll never see again. God bless you, Sir Elton.

The first time I heard Your Song was the Three Dog Night version. Then I heard Elton sing it and I was blown away. I've seen him live (the best concert was July 4, 1976) but for some reason, hearing Your Song just made me cry. God, I miss the 60s & 70s. I am so grateful to have grown up then, with so much great music. Edit: OK. Forget Your Song. Daniel just shredded me.

I've been listening to him since I was twelve. Your Song is my favorite, and believe me, with him, it's hard to pick only one as a favorite. My son had this played at his wedding reception for the mother/son dance. As a child he was sung Levon as a lullaby. His first concert we took him to was Elton John, when he was ten. He stood up in his seat and danced to Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting. Need I say more?

Elton is simply a great piano player first, then a songwriter, and he happens also to have a wonderful singing voice. I absolutely love Elton John more than any other musician. I hear the classical influence in his music , which is what first attracted me to his piano playing. I remember thinking his music was different and I could understand every word he sang. I will never forget that moment. My younger sister became a huge fan, and a friend of mine who also loved Elton invited her to the concert at Dodger Stadium. I can still remember how excited she was. Those were great times.

I ❤ Sir Elton! He can write songs in 15 minutes? And impromptu from a student’s book? OMG!😳🤩😍 I listened with my mouth agape in awe!😲 I wish I could’ve seen him & Billy Joel perform together on that tour! It was sold out in minutes. There are a finite # of piano keys but he keeps pulling more music from them. He’s definitely a flat writer which is why I couldn’t play most of his sheet music. I’m still discovering some of his songs, like There’s Something In The Way You Look Tonight from ‘97. And a remake of Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word with a boy band called Blue. How lucky for them! Idk how he still had the stamina and voice to do 3 hour concerts and no sheet music! Damn! Even now that he’s done touring and spending more time with family, he still wants to find another boy band in England! I didn’t know he had throat surgery. I just that his voice was deeper from age, which does happen. That caused a lot of rewrites in different keys.

Elton - I'm pretty sure you practiced enough. I was fortunate enough to see him in a one man show - just him, no band - and he really was Captain Fantastic. That was A. Wonderful demo, he did to show the difference between the root cord and the fifth and it really made it sound like an organ and it makes me as someone listening to music. Understand better what I'm listening to and what I'll be looking for and how dramatic a difference it was. And I really enjoy that kind of teaching and talking and just love. What he did as opposed to oh in this year.I wrote this and got this award and whatever. And I'd like to know how long does it take Bernie to write the words and does Elton John ever change the words and does he ever ask him what they mean because, once someone asked him that he said no he didn't ask, but how can you write the music If you don't know what the words mean or does he always have a meaning himself for the word. I don't understand a lot of the words. What the meaning is and I like how he picked out the refrain. The repeating part that wasn't there, so that was also very interesting.I'm never gonna be a writer but it just makes me appreciate the song's more and now i'm really listening and looking. Bravo to elton john.

I always refer to Elton as "my first musical love" because - on his birthday in 1975 - I was the correct caller to whatever rock station in DC, and was given my choice of his albums. I requested Greatest Hits, played it for a buddy (Innocent LIttle Davey Howie, lol) and we both became Elton addicts. Going forward, we bought different albums from his back catalog so we could share so both of us had access to all of his released material. Elton lifted me out of listening to adolescent marketed crapola like The Partridge Family. Oh, those magical days...
