For those who follow Amiga scene developments, you may already have seen various tech demos of the Scorpion Engine (also developed by Erik) and what it can do. For those who haven't, this is one of the most exciting game dev tools for the Amiga that I've seen in recent years, something that promises to give rise (hopefully) to a new wave of games for one of the greatest computers of all time.
Amigo the Fox was released on 20/06/2021 and is designed as sample project to demonstrate what the engine is capable of, and I think it does this with aplomb: multiple layers of parallax scrolling, background planes and sprites with a level of performance that is very admirable, even on an A500. The game design is based on Mike Wiering's 1994 open source DOS PC clone of Super Mario Bros (www.wieringsoftware.nl/mario/i..., and it's a really good fit for this project.
This particular longplay was done using an A1200 configuration (which is the recommended configuration), although it works perfectly fine with an A500 with 1MB expansion, although there will be some slowdown at times.
Overall, Amigo is a really neat example of what the Scorpion Engine can do, and I can't wait to see what comes next once devs have chance to experiment with it.
