I think your mum is just happy to see you, Will and baby Elle. And everyone's family is different. My parents still live in my childhood home, but use my attic room as a lot of storage so sometimes I can't just rock up without notice as I might not have a bed ready to sleep in (this was when I lived in the UK - my mum has had 2 months warning I'm coming home from LA for Christmas for her to shift her stuff and find my bedding 🤣). And I'm glad you are the type who respects peoples boundries and privacy, but sometimes for special occasions it's nice to 'meet' your family

My husband and i live on the opposite coast of our families. For us, it is to expensive to fly to visit around Thanksgiving and Christmas/new years. We fly back home 1 time a year for about 4-5 days and we never have time to see all our family and friends. We end up have to pick who we are going to see. I agree with you that short trips home are hard to see everyone you want to hang out with.

Your curlers remind me of when I was at university in Liverpool, UK, and all the girls would come out of the hairdressers in curlers of a Saturday ready for a night out. First time I saw it I was shocked. But my dad, knowing Liverpool as he grew up coming over from Belfast on the ferry to watch the Liverpool matches, was used to it, and explained 'well it's basically the equivalent of the men coming out of the barbers with a fresh cut. Just the ladies need time for it to set so they do a bit of shopping'.

When traveling on a plane, we keep treats for her along the way but the night before we fast! So we won’t have food out for her. When it’s two hours before we leave we put up her water and make sure she goes before we leave!
