Eduardo Aguirre Definitely, it's so refreshing to see real performers and not cookie cutter molded personas because that's what some suit and ties think the masses want to see. Not that they don't have talent either. But this raw talent where the music touches you and carries you. And her stage presence, you can't make this up. This is the real deal!

You get ignorance when education and History isn't taught correctly. I am Black American and WE shaped American music We created all of that. While whites stole our music. Sound and dance. Ask any Rock and Roll ( White) artist where it came from. Lmao. Same with Salsa, Merengue, Mambo etc..... It's all from Africa. Just like Santana said. People need to start reading more and talking less.

'Attacking. Defending. Until, there's nothing left worth winning.' One of the most succinct summations of the things that divide us, and yet bring the opportunity and hope that through working to understand, we are limited only by our imagination. Brilliantly simplistic.

Attacking, defending Until there's nothing left worth winning Your pride and my pride Don't waste my time I don't wanna fight no more Take from my hand Put in your hands The fruit of all my grief Lying down ain't easy When everyone is pleasing I can't get no relief Living ain't no fun The constant dedication Keeping the water and power on There ain't nobody left Why can't I catch my breath? Wildly authentic and genuine. 'Don't Wanna Fight' is visceral, tightly coiled, socially conscious funk with a pained soul and an urgency that evokes Curtis Mayfield. Alabama Shakes are the real deal and prove it throughout the 12 highly original tracks on 'Sound & Color' (2015). It's an uneven, sprawling piece of work that thrills, surprises, occasionally missteps but ultimately satisfies. This isn't "factory" music written by teams of industry songwriters to satisfy stockholders at a record company. This isn't a commodity or product engineered by soulless big media (unlike most contemporary pop). It's actual artistic inspiration and musical ambition that challenges the artist and listener. Take note when music like this comes around. It's a rare treat in today's mainstream industry.

I was in awe to hear such a change in pace from their shine-y, Summer-esque debut compared to what I could already tell was going to be a soulful, tight, sonic record with some dark undertones. This album reigns on. I cannot wait to hear what Brittany has to offer on her vulnerable new album.

When songs like this which are usually considered r&b/soul go mainstream to the pop people, I feel like you have to explain this to others. A lot of women sound like "men" in that case.

First off I heard Sound and Color and fell in love! Second I did not know the lead singer was a woman. Her voice is amazing! I'm loving the rasp and deep soulfulness of it! 😍
