+Cat Ross Don't take offense to me trying to debunk this, but did you happen to fall asleep with the TV or radio on?... Me and my brother do that, and I thought I was the only one who would subconsciously hear what was on TV, and dream something that involved it, until he told me he'd done that too. So I think it's a common thing. It's hard to believe your mind actually made up a song that already existed, unless there's something supernatural going on with you. Lol.

I'm learning this song on bass, and the mixture of minimal, muted parts and aggressively rock & roll soul parts are their own lil rollercoaster inside of the emotional rollercoaster of the whole song. Brittany is a mastermind and her crew are masters of expressionism in their own rights. This is the shortest symphonic suite ever, but that's what it does, leads the listener to so many places in a tiny bit of time

I have not stopped playing Boys & Girls (debut album) since I heard it more than 3 years ago (I first heard "Hold On" 4 years ago). Hands down my favourite album (band?) in the last 10-15 years, of any genre. What does it for me? Hard to pinpoint....they blend soul, jazz, rock, blues & motown so perfectly, it kills me...every song is a treasure. Brit has such an incredible, timeless voice. The absolute softest when it needs to be, yet sultry, sexy, aggressive & full of passion when the song dictates - and oh boy, do some of the songs dictate. The band is tight, fluid, and the overall tone of their recordings is so retro but yet so perfectly suited for their style (see above), which is a big part of what I love about these guys. If you're on the beach/at a cottage/in the country, do yourself a favour and play anything by Alabama Shakes. The memories will be better.

Alabama Shakes and Charles Bradley, these two do something for me that almost nothing else can. It's like an antidepressant mixed with a jolt of hope, courage and optimism... a feeling that everything will be ok. I find this stuff so comforting. It hits right at my heart, music with this kind of soulfulness to it can't be faked no matter how many execs the label gathers in the board room or how much money is thrown at whatever producer is in demand that month. Brittney and Charles (Bradley) both have voices that are so genuine, full of passion and emotion and completely visceral. Such iconic voices (Charles Bradley's voice coming in on the opening of "Changes" wakes my tear ducts up every single time and totally changes my day for the better). They are both national treasures and their albums should 100% be inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry as they are examples not only of artistic excellence in their field but also the excellent lyricism & storytelling detailing their uniquely American struggles (and joys). In my opinion, since the turn of the century no other music has exemplified *the* most purely raw American sound & ethos as these two. Ok I'm done rambling! Apologies for the length.. I'm a big fan! :)

And these guys (and girl) know how to progress a song from being pretty good to being incredible with the second half of this track. Fantastic performances across the board, Brittany Howard's voice had me hooked in instantly. This band brings back that 60s-70s rock sound with a fresh twist, absolutely love it.

I feel extremely blessed to have caught these kids play at the legendary Carnegie Hall last week. I must say they stunned us all with this song. I have seen over 6,000 artists perform live in my 50 years and that one song shot up to near the top of my all time "I will always remember that one" moments.
@Talyen797 жыл бұрын
Michael A. Riley 6000 huh? Okay...
@michaela67967 жыл бұрын
Talyen79 OH god, easily 6,000. Hell, I stopped even trying to count years ago. Look at it this way, as it seems you doubt me: I attend on average three shows per week. (Probably five most weeks, but for your sake, three is fine) Most of these shows average three artists or more, but call it three. I started this pattern in 1984. Number crunch time: oh shit!!! That makes over 15,000 acts. Now, for sure there are some I have seen multiple times. I saw REM over 20 times in the 80's. I have seen Tool a dozen times. I have seen Bob Dylan a dozen times. I have seen a handful of local or underground bands a dozen times each. Oh shit, I forgot I saw Sonic Youth like 30 times back in the 80's. So, that type of activity, seeing multiple bands multiple times would reduce the number down from 15,000 acts total. So I will call it 10,000 acts that I have seen, stick with that for another decade or so...stop counting. But thanks, you woke me up to the actual number more closely. (I saw more than one dozen different acts that night alone, at Carnegie) Peace😎
