Looking forward to this film! Barry Keoghan's face tells a story. Reminds me of Harry Dean Stanton in a way. I almost feel he's too old for the part of a college student. Gonna watch the film before I finish this review. But I'll return!

the feeling an 'event' when seeing a movie in a packed theatre is the main reason i prefer seeing movies in a theatre as opposed to home. you just cant replicate that communal feeling sitting at home. i love getting a read on the room while the movie is going, seeing whether jokes are landing, or groaning during some parts of the film.. and with big action films it's great hearing people cheer or react during critical events... you do not get that all at home.

I agree with you because this is a film that provokes thought and discussion. In that way it reminds me of Keoghan’s Banshees of Inisheran, my favorite of last year. (Note: Keoghan has made some great career choices). I felt there was a lot to unpack after seeing it for the first time. Unfortunately, I saw it by myself and was left working out my thoughts on my own. So, I turned to KZbin reviewers to help me figure out what I saw. As with IMDB reviews, people have loved it or hated it. I loved it save for the ending. I went to see it a second time to see if there were clues as to the final outcome. I didn’t see any. It doesn’t ring true to me. But overall, it’s at least the most interesting film of the year.

Just finished watching this movie - absolutely outrageous! All my life I have suffered from one of the 7 deadly sins, envy/jealousy and as one of the working poor for all of my adult life, I truly relate to our Oliver. Maybe it's just me, but everyday when I'm driving my $10,000 Toyota Aqua and see someone in a $200,00 + German car, my brain reacts exactly as if I just saw a Victoria Secrets Supermodel in the flesh - I'm a moth, I get this movie. I GET IT. Well played, Oliver, well played. (Hate the game, not the player)

@Alachia I saw Saltburn! Wasn't nearly as impressed by it as you but I'm still glad I saw it. I have to be honest, watching the absolute garbage trailers in the theater prior to the start of the film, gave me a splitting headache. They were all bombasticly loud and edited like music videos from the mid 90's. In 3 of the 5 previews, white guys are being belittled, hit in the junk, talked down to, and made to look like weak, insecure morons. I get that the current trend is to hate on white males, but isn't that also just sexism? If youre truly above mistakes of the past, then move on from them and evolve. Needless to say, I didn't care for this film, and it has absolutely nothing to do with me being straight. In fact, one of my favorite films of the past few years is The Outwaters, a brilliant horror film created by and starring gay men. So for starters, I'm beginning to get annoyed by the use of wealth as it's own macguffin. I do understand that in this film the wealth is the tentpole supporting the lack of a real plot, but I did want to see the characters without this cruch. And it just never really happens. I especially didn't like how there's certain scenes that are only intended to gross out the audience, because no other character witnesses these acts (with 1 exception). This betrays the surprise twist because they're literally there for audience shock (in a way breaking the 4th wall) and serve absolutely no other purpose. In that regard, what makes it any different than say a Saw film? Because of that, it's rather shallow and serves only to indulge the director with its pornographic insinuations. Had it stayed true to the allure of the first act, I would've found it to be a much more interesting story. It's peculiar how this was also my viewpoint on Dream Scenario and Beau Is Afraid. Brilliant first acts that unravel by the third. Had all 3 of these movies gone full speed into the horror hinted at in their first hour or so, all 3 would be immensely more interesting than the end result.

Ok, sounds interesting enough. I'm mostly sick and twisty enough to enjoy weird stories, but is this a typical coming of age story at the core of this movie? Because I generally can't stand coming of age stories in movies. The usual "ugly insecure duckling being bullied by the mean popular peers and then blossoming into something fabulous in the end" kind of story.

I was so excited about this movie but I was very disappointed. The ending is exactly what I expected it to be, even from the trailers. I don’t know why people are saying this film is a masterpiece & that it had so many twists and turns. I guess the movie had twists but they all led to the same very predictable & obvious ending, which is boring. People compare this film to The Talented Mr. Ripley which I do not understand AT ALL. What made that movie so good is that the audience never knew what Tom Ripley was going to do next or how far he would go. Oliver’s motives in Saltburn are predictable and they really don’t make sense, in my opinion. Oliver isn’t poor or lower class. We see that he comes from a wealthy background too, so his only motivation for vengeance is because Felix ignored him sometimes……….until he didn’t and invited Oliver to spend the summer with his family. Unlike in the talented Mr. Ripley, Tom is actually extremely poor & has to work multiple jobs just to survive to the next day. Tom idolizes the rich but he also hates and is offended by their easy & carefree lifestyle that wasn’t earned and taken for granted. Also it’s very clear that Tom Ripley is romantically attracted to Dickie and most of Tom’s attraction to Dickie, comes from Dickie’s wealthy and lavish lifestyle. So Tom’s actions towards Dickie Greenleaf make sense. But again what was Oliver’s motivation for all of this? Yes he inherited money but he was already wealthy so why does that matter??? However, I liked the cinematography and the acting.
