I've played the GT in store and am a long time owner of a Mini. While I find the GT has a bit more bass and volume due to it's larger body, I don't feel at three times the price of a Mini it's three times better in sound or playability. Absolutely love my Mini, and if a person wants to move up in size I'd lean toward a full body and skip the "in between."

As many have stated before me, the way Cooper is playing, it makes it difficult to hear the difference. However, one thing that surprised me was the fact that the Mini can truly hold its own. I have a Mini and I would like to tell those who've never played one; when people infer that the Mini is a guitar for small people, it's not really true. It's for small, medium, and large people alike. I have fairly large hands and I have no problem negotiating the fretboard.

Wow, my 2 main interests in this video (1) you both holding the guitars side by side for a size visual comparison and (2) switching back and fourth between both guitars during Coopers playing. Honestly in this video I felt there is minimal difference. I'm a huge Taylor fan and have always thought the GS-Mini stood alone against all other competition, so the thought of the all solid GT got me super excited, however Taylor was able to make the GS-Mini layered sides/back sound as good as many all solid guitars. I commented on your first video thinking the GT may compete too much with the GS-Mini, but honestly I dont think so based on this video. I'll need to test one in person to confirm. That doesnt mean I will never get a GT, but it means my GS-Mini(s) remain absolute best bang for the buck when it comes to build, feel, and sound (short of my McPherson CF Touring)! Cant wait to watch all the other comparison videos that will surely flood KZbin soon.

I have to agree with the comments that Cooper's playing, while certainly impressive, (Ok. Mind blowing) makes it hard to hear the differences between the two guitars. It will be interesting to see how the GT sells. If it were my money, it would be the American Dream series just for the scale length. Pit the GT against the AD. That's the comparison I'd love to hear. No doubt the GSM is a little gem, though.

I fully agree, Cooper has an amazing ability to play, but that isn't the purpose of the video. Could we have some 6 string chords, and not so fast on the changes please? Let the guitars ring out some.
@1funkybasslady4 жыл бұрын
While Cooper's playing is virtuosic, there is too much going on with the fingers and the style including a lot of string muting. This does not really show the depth/fullness of tone of either guitar. It just shows lots of notes - very few of which are sustained. I'd like to hear both guitars played by Chris using the tunes he regularly plays to demonstrate acoustic guitars.

Juan, not too good. Just too many notes too fast to demonstrate the tonal characteristics and differences between the two instruments. In my opinion Koa Plus > GT. I just got back from trying these at the store. The Koa Plus sounds incredible: the bass tone is full and warm, warmer than the GT, The Koa plus sounds like a full sized guitar to me, but it does seem to lack overtones and sustain compared to the GT or a full size (was hard to discern as well over the faint air/humidifier noise), although I would actually prefer this since my maple 614e has tons of overtones and sometimes I want them to shut up lol - just depends on the song/style. I could also feel the K+ resonate against my body. The K+ defied expectations, while the GT sounded like what you'd expect from a slightly smaller than full sized guitar. Another difference (although this could change with action / string choice) was the GT was slightly slinkier (easier to bend) than the mini because by defualt the string tension is less. But the K+ I played also felt like the action was a little too high. One thing I liked better about the GT was that it was easier to find the sweet spot in tone/volume when resting my wrist on the strings for a semi palm muted sound when flat picking. On the K+ I found it easy to have too much palm resting on the strings and dampening the sound too much, but maybe with practice this would be overcome; on the positive side, since the K+ is more punchy and has less sustain anyways, even if I erred on less palm I could still get a percussive sound that didn't bleed. To my ears the K+ definitely sounds better than the other mini varients. I don't know the specs as to what's different, but its night and day difference to me - the bass tone on the K+ is amazing. I don't mean that it's overpowering - the EQ across strings was just right. Harder to say for the GT since I found it's bass to be brighter. I didn't try the GT plugged in. The K+ plugged in sounded fine, nothing to write home about - the higher the volume the more of that metalic zing there is with basically all amped acoustics. Not sure how it compared to the regular minis plugged in.

I originally bought a GS mini about a month ago for a travel guitar because I don't want to travel with my 54 year old Martin. I brought it home and after a day or two decided that I could not live with a guitar that had a somewhat anemic bass (my opinion only - don't want to offend anyone). I brought it back to Guitar Center and compared it to the GTe Urban Ash, which I liked much better. I paid the difference for the upgrade. BTW the gig bag for the GT is a huge improvement as well. Been playing the GT, unelectrified, daily for about a month now and am very happy with the sound and playability.

To repeat on other comments, when you can play like Cooper then any guitar sounds wonderful, absolutely superb playing ... the GS mini is a great little guitar but given the choice I'd go for the GT, solid woods will improve with time and that little extra size will give a better acoustic sound ... but both guitars are fantastic plugged in, so then it comes down to how comfortable it feels for each individual player. You need to make the demo more accessible by doing some simple fingerpicking and strumming techniques. Also, the assertion that the GS-mini is not a “serious” guitar is absurd, I’ve been playing and recording for over 40 years and I can tell you it sounds just fine in the studio in the right hands. Honestly, I certainly didn’t hear enough of a difference between the two (likely because of the style of the demo) to justify the additional cost and make me want to add one to my collection. Hmmm. ? I can't really tell the difference sound wise ? Maybe my PC speakers aren't good enough? Or my ear isn't that well trained. Think I'll keep my GS MIni KOA for now.

Don't worry, that's completely normal. KZbin compresses sound like crazy, something like 20 kbps for sound only. The differences will be minor even between a 1960 Martin dreadnought and a small parlor if recorded the same way.

This new Taylor GT seems closer to the Martin Junior series. Both solid woods. About the same scale length, but way different price. How about a comparison?

Funny you mention the factory setup. My GS Mini was horrible - action close to 1/4" out of the box.

I would imagine that the gs mini would be fine for gigging and would be a great all purpose guitar, all in a compact travel size package

The GT seems much better balanced, but they are clearly both masters of their class. Nicely done, gents!

Bought a guitar from Alamo a few months ago. One of you sales reps said the Taylor rep said the GS mini has a larger sound hole than their other guitars. If so, does that also apply to the new Grand Theater? Kudos on presentation and playing. Thanks.

First of all sweet playing! I just want to say that GS mini has fuller punchier tone. Im not sure if it's because it has medium strings. The GT is more rounded & trebly. Im now inclined to try the GT. Thanks for the comparison video.

Chris, about LMAO seeing your face as you brought down the GT.

A comparison with the Martin Dreadnought Junior would be interesting, as it too is a solid wood travel style guitar (24" scale length) and nowhere near the cost of the new Taylor GT.

Traded my GS mini for the Martin D Jr, great move, love the sound and playability

Nice video but Chris, this one was "Taylor" made for your touch and ability to bring the sound out of a guitar. I hope you will consider doing another short comp with these two same guitars soon. Thx!

Can you do a compare between the GT and the 214ce Taylor? Thanks

I was anxious to play the new GT I had the opportunity. It was very loud and punchy with good solid bass but I found the treble side to be much to bright I much prefers my X braced Taylor 324.

Depends on which strings are on the guitar.

The GT sounds much more open and has more reverb, the GS sounds really small and dry in comparison - wow! For me the GT may be the perfect choice because I would want more than a Gs mini and still small size!

I’m curious as to how the GT compares to a Martin 00-15. I own a GS Mini and love it, but I would like to have something a little bigger (and US made).

I might wait to see how this line grows and what kind of options come out from it.
