The only other person I can think of who started their commentary career and very quickly became 'world number one' is Clive Everton (Ted Lowe doesn't count for me, because he was also the only commentator...) - and Clive of course became Lowe's spiritual successor as the 'Voice of Snooker'. Joe Davis was for a long time considered the greatest player ever to live, and he famously wrote the book, 'How To Play Snooker'. Alan McManus is rewriting the equivalent, metaphorical book on snooker commentary - and when it comes to commentary, I'm sure he will have a similar legacy of his own.
