I for one NEVER overlooked this soundtrack. I've got it on vinyl when it first came out last century. Still sounds great.

This film had a massive effect on me when I saw it in my teens. I never got it out of my mind for weeks. I never forgot the pigman. Who would think it would almost come true? Brilliant song too.

Sorry if someone mentioned this already, but apparently Alan hadn't even see the screenplay and had no idea what the movie was about when he wrote the ten songs (really only nine as the 10th is just a re-working of the first). Lindsay Anderson just asked him to write some songs and in the weirdest twist of fate ever, they just fitted with the movie brilliantly,

It is a great film. A movie like this would never sell in today's market. The 70s was a different era. If you lived in the States like I did the early 70s was in many ways a continuation of the 60s.

That's too freaky that bit with the Sheepman. That is in this movie right? That horrible half man half sheep guy under the blanket? Kramer's Pigman was pretty funny. That's maybe what made me look for this movie. I only watched Pigman episode last week.
@SirDaddaCool8 ай бұрын
Did Jeremy Bulloch play the Sheepman? Was he the same guy that over-took Travis in the sports car, early on, and loses control then the police steal all the produce? Was the driver still alive and his body handed over to Professor Miller for Frankensteinian experimentation? Is it the Miller Institute or am I getting O Lucky Man and Britannia Hospital confused. Really cool, freaky shit. I watched these movies on telly when I was about 10 years old. Weird but really cool.

OLM is not a sequel. It was part of a triology Lindsay Anderson directed over the years using the same character. Anderson is best remembered for his "Mick Travis" trilogy of feature films, all of which star Malcolm McDowell as Travis: If...., O Lucky Man! and Britannia Hospital.

cookcalchel is correct. Malcolm McDowell as "Mick Travis" is a recurring element in all three films. There are some sly allusions to the previous movies in OLM! and BH, but it's understood that he's not playing the same guy, even though in each film, the guy is named "Mick Travis." If... and O Lucky Man! are awesome. Britannia Hospital? Not so much. Malcolm/"Mick" is pretty much a peripheral character, or an extended "cameo," as it were.

A movie like O Lucky Man would never sell in today's market against Oblivion, Batman, etc. The 18-34 target audience has no living memory of this era and yes sadly many of them are brain dead to wisdom and culture.

It is a crime of the century that Alan Price was not even nominated in 1973. Instead Oscar went to Marvin Hamlisch for "The Way We Were". Anybody remembers that movie? At all? And he got another one for stealing the soundtrack to "Sting" from Scott Joplin. What a joke.
