Alan Price sings the title track of the Lindsay Anderson film "O Lucky Man!"

It was one of the very few British movies dubbed into Russian and shown in the USSR. Probably because it painted a very scary picture of life in the West. This film was indicative of the shift from the earlier moral criteria towards the demoralization in the arts of the 1970s. But for us, Soviet kids, it was a window into the free world, with some decent rock 'n' roll accompaniment to boot.

Still one of my favorite films of the era and Alan Price one of my favorite singers. This song has changed meaning for me as I've grown older and continue to be alive. Kudos!!
@withlotsabutta9 жыл бұрын
Zedwoman It DOES change in meaning, doesn't it? At one time I only focused on the odd-man-out aspect,; then, later in life, I focused on the economics and power structure and culture class aspects; still late, I focused on the longing and romance aspects. It continue to deepen and maybe even darken in scope and meaning with each viewing.Thank you for your wonderful comment!

It is now my theme song. Sadly a movie like this in 2019 would never sell. The world's population has been dumbed down too much.

Fabulous film and soundtrack, so glad they finally released it on DVD. Blew me away when I first saw it in the early 70s.

Первый фильм в СССР, где можно было взглянуть на зарубежных музыкантов, а не просто слушать их по "Голосу Америки". Браво!!!

Thank you so much for posting this great performance of Alan Price and accompanying musicians! I loved this film when it came out. Saw it first in 1973 in Ontario, then again in '74 in Saskatchewan. Would so love to see it again now in 2015!

I saw this film for the first time when I was quite young, and the scene where he discovers the pig in bed completely freaked me out :) And then came the song, probably responsible for getting me interested in ,music, so simple and uncomplicatted........still love it today,

The first day I ever got to London, I wandered into a theatre showing "O Lucky Man" and it was a great way to start being introduced to London. (And that night I saw Peter Cook and Dudley Moore on stage in "Behind the Fridge". It was a great day.)

I have to pinch myself!!! We can all be grateful for the existence of this song, and the entire soundtrack!!! I'm 59 years old, and in 1973 I was a mere 10 years old when this movie came out but I didn't know of the movie's existence until 5 years later, when I saw this movie!!! I always think to myself I was 10 years old when this movie came out, and it will stick with me like glue for all time!!! it has endeared itself to me eternally.

The film was allowed to be shown in communist Poland just to show the evil of capitalism but contrary to their intentions it became the glorification of western freedom and lifestyle in the eyes of young people. The song is outstanding and is a part of the set of my favourite music, mostly old rock songs.

This movie quickly became one of my favorites. I think I like it even more than a clockwork orange which is fantastic as well. Never see anyone talking about this movie ever, quite forgotten, those who have seen it can consider themselves lucky, most people will walk and leave this earth without ever even hearing about this film

Once again you will need to excuse me for my ignorance but this another of the 100000000001 movies that are on the list of "movies that I had never heard about before in my life". The cast and the song are very good. If I have the chance, I will try to find this movie.

If you have a friend on whom you think you can rely - You are a lucky man! if you`ve found the reason to live on and not to die - You are a lucky man! Preachers and poets And scholars don`t know it, Temples and statues And the steeples won`t show it, If you`ve got the secret Just try not to blow it - Stay a lucky man! If you`ve found the meaning Of the truth in this old world - You are a lucky man! If knowledge hangs around your neck Like pearles instead of chains You are a lucky man! Takers and fakers And talkers won`t tell ya, Teachers and preachers Will just buy and sell ya, When no one can tempt ya, With heaven or hell - You`ll be a lucky man! Takers and fakers And talkers won`t tell ya, Teachers and preachers Will just buy and sell ya, When no one can tempt you With heaven or hell - You`ll be a lucky man! You`ll be better by far To be just what you are You can be what you want If you are what you are - And that`s a lucky man...
