TBF I think for the pro console a locked 60 isn't necessarily essential. If you're dropping nearly a grand on a console then you probably have a VRR capable display. I'd take amazing graphics and high resolution if it means less than 60fps provided it stays in that 48-60 range.

People jumped the gun saying PSSR was close to DLSS. It's looking less impressive the more we see it. Looks like it does pretty well with higher resolutions upscaled to 4K, like 1440p+. Below that it seems to really struggle and even ends up being worse than FSR in some situations.

Right now one of two things need to happen: Either adjust the game's settings so it can run 1440p native and let PSSR take over (I mean, Ratchet & Clank looks gorgeous) or wait for the next iteration of PSSR which might be able to better avoid those artifacts. Right now it's just not made for sub-1080p (or 1216p or 1440p) resolutions it seems.

@@lostintranslation76 It’s really weird. FF7 Rebirth is 1080-1200p upscaled to 4K and looks gorgeous. But Silent Hill 2 for some reason, even in the quality mode which has around the same resolution has problems. Seems like it’s on a case by case basis and I’m really not a fan of having to look up if games will even look descent on the pro before I purchase them now.

I really think that Remedy would have had much better results had they literally just bumped up the resolution for performance mode. Giving it like, 1080-1440p-ish for the upscaler to chew on. Going from 864p up to 4K in a game with very complex and realistic characters and environments (with lots of post-processing effects) is simply demanding. It also strikes me as weird that Remedy says that resolution didn't matter that much for improving the image quality when they literally have another mode with higher resolution. Like, uh, what?

A very poorly optimized game, with poor image quality at performance settings, will not a good PSSR upscaling make. Is my guesstimate. Instead of comparing these poorly optimized games, on features PS5 Pro has that requires devs to tamper with their games to get the most out of, it would be way more interesting to see what the PS5 Pro can do to the PS4 game Alan Wake 1. With its across the board "filter" wich actually does improve PS4 games quite a lot.

The first iteration always sucks. Always. I remember DLSS when it first came out, it was rubbish and was spatial instead of temporal. FSR was rubbish when it came out too. When they both reached their temporal 2.0 iterations they had a lot of ghosting and motion artifacting. It took a lot of work to iron out the kinks. It's no surprise that Sony are finding themselves in the same situation. Give it time

Also FSR is a joke in many titles, I found it completely unusable in many of the games that NATIVELY support it (especially 3rd person games, it doesn't handle a still character model with movement all around when you pan the camera very well). I sold my 6700xt and went back to Nvidia for that reason.

It is better than at launch (or at the least, better than advertised). I have an ROG TUF4070ti and R7 3700x (No real OC, just PBO) and the vast majority of areas run 100+fps fully maxed out with dlss set to quality @1440p. There was one area close to the beginning of the game that threatened to drop below 60 but I don't think it ever did. I did however find out the hard way not to use a hard drive but transferring to NVME fixed all audio streaming issues.

A little disappointed in what the pro seems to be offering at launch but I'm not concerned. Firstly it's new for Devs who will need to learn how to properly implement the tech and the extra power (hopefully the instal base is big enough for it to be worth their time!) and second it's only 1.0 of PSSR. It will definitely be improved over the next few months just like every other company has done with their upscaling tech.

On the contrary. A very good way of finding out just how good an upscaler is, is to test just how good it resolves the image and the quality of that image whenever it's upscaling from lower resolutions, just like this. Any upscaler even checkerboard looks pretty good whenever it's upscaling from say 1440p to 4K. However, a true test of how good it really is, is how well it upscales from resolutions of 720p or below to 1440p or higher, where it has barely any initial pixel data to work from.

1) psvr2 is not Flop. Quest is a flop as meta lost 2 billion $ last year on quest. Sony only made profit, more than psvr1 2) PSSR is a technology that will be used in all future playstations and be the base for the AMD RDNA 4 hardware upscaler for the next gen AMD GPUs. The next Xbox, if they make one, will use that technology as well. the basic generic AMD upscaler, not PSSR. 3) given how well it works, it won't be retired. It started off better than DLSS and has the potential to be better because it's proprietary and optimized for a very custom specific build. Kinda like the custom pipeline of the PS5 makes it's SSD work much better and faster than an equivalent 5.5 gb/s SSD on a PC or Xbox.

@@kato093 didn’t Sony cease future production of the psvr2 tho ? Didn’t hit anywhere near the target sales they expected. It Appeals to a very small niche of ps players anyhow. Personaly I own a psvr 2 tried it. Good headset but I think the infrastructure for virtual reality isn’t there yet. Mainstream players are all wanting decent TVs to play on instead. I have my psvr2 on eBay. Been on for around 4 months and still not selling. So no I don’t think Sony made a lot more than the psvr1 at all. Still not enough to sustain its life. On the store majority of games are Indy 3rd party rubbish. No main developer support which is a let down and that probably says soemthing in itself. I agree with pssr. It’s very interesting tech moving forward for console generations. Shame the pro in its infancy is in a state of psssr beta form untill devs iron out its creases.

Yes. But he is much better in this one than others. To people asking, It's his speach pattern coupled with a usually much stronger and consistent lisp like enunciation of entire sentences, not just words.
