I was really intrigued by the opening of this game, but holy crap does it just go more and more downhill as the game goes on to the point that I was just about ready to throw my computer out the window in the finale with how unbelievably dull and tedious and annoying it had become. It's sad how, for a lot of folks lately, especially newer generations of gamers or mainstream critics (content creator types or within the industry themselves), so as long as a "game" is presented as "artistic", all of a sudden, it's supposedly immune to objective criticism. Alan Wake II is barely a game to begin with. And all of this is coming from me who makes a living out of being an illustrator. Just because a piece of art is intended to be deep or showcased as such, that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to dislike or even despise it. And that's where I'm at with this game. I love a lot of what Remedy has done in the past, and, yes, that does include the original Alan Wake. I'm insanely, insanely disappointed by this entry. I refuse to acknowledge it as a proper sequel to Alan Wake. I have a lot more to say, but I'll leave it at that. Kudos to ya for speaking your mind! More gaming reviews (in this case, a rant) really ought to focus on games prioritizing gameplay.

Genuinely thought I was going crazy with the universal love in Alan Wake 2 has got elsewhere on the internet, so glad I finally found a video summarising just how poor it is. Alan Wake 2 was a big disappointment for me, fortunately I played The Medium after, and found it to be a way better survival horror, although it's pretty linear, and a bit short for my liking.

My biggest issue is you run soooooooooooo slowly and walk soooooooooo slowly. That first boss fight against nightingale what makes the corridor section tedious is the movement and running speed. Strangely, the first game had this same problem and why I just couldn't get invested. The movement in quantum break and control was awesome, but sadly the alan wake games just have you running and walking like a sloth.

The reason you run slow is because if they let you run faster you'd just be able to run away from all of the Taken with little effort. It was the same in the first game. Since they spawn randomly in the overworld, slowing your run speed is the only way to balance the game.

Being such a big fan of the first alan wake I bought it on release and boy do I wish I hadn't. I couldn't even finish it, I just hard dropped it after a handful of hours. I can't say i'm terribly surprised its bad considering sweet baby inc's involvement and now that I know about them I won't be buying any other games they've worked on. It sucks feeling like you can't buy a game at release anymore and expect it will be what you wanted from a sequel. The game industry just really sucks now in my opinion. I barely even buy games anymore after being let down so many times. I only spend my money on the surefire 100% no doubt in my mind games now. Like anything FromSoftware makes for example.

Alan Wake 1 was the only game made by Remedy that I played. I enjoyed it very much. When playing Alan Wake 1, I loved the story and ended up caring for the characters. I was so excited when they finally announced Alan Wake 2. Thank god I didn't buy it. I don't know what the hell they did with the plot to make it so boring. And why do you have to play for some FBI agent when the main character is Alan Wake??? Where is Barry??? Couldn't Barry try to come look after Alan???? Very disappointed! This gave me a good laugh mate. 😆 AW 1 is one of my favourite games of all time, so its sad that I honestly couldn't care less about this one. I waited 13 years for a sequel to Alan Wake, only for him to be half the experience. Other than the visuals this game is mid in every department. The plotting board was clunky as hell, the number of times when the game wouldn't let me post evidence that belonged to a specific photo and other times it just worked with the exact same was frustrating, to say the least. The jumpscares are annoyingly cheap and repetitive Glitches all over the place with slowth movements It annoys me that it even got dominated at the awards when it doesn't have any right to be. Whatever I was looking forward to this game because of how much I truly enjoyed Control but this.... its not it chief.

I didnt care much for this one either. I knew it would be mostly leaning on its story, but take away all the confusing twists and such and your left with not much of a story. It was very hard to care at all about any of the characters in the game. As for the visuals, I ran it on a pretty high end PC (rtx 4080) and aside from a few locations, like the city, I thought it looked quite ’meh’. Especially the forrest where you spend a lot of time, not impressed. The monsters/enemies are not very well done either, especially the damage models look like something out of a cheap unity asset sale. The resident evil remakes all look way better than this demanding much less in terms of hardware. And oh my god the musical section and all the other ”funny” stuff they threw in the game, total immersion breakers. And that janitor that is suppose to be funny and quirky, just straight up annoying and ruined any chance of trying to get into any kind of ”horror” mood

I am a huge fan of the first Alan Wake. I bought this game on release day and was very excited. After playing for a few hours I turned it off and haven't touched it since. It's beautiful but it's also boring and very confusing.

The game is boring, there is absolutely no pace, the character's skill progression is incredibly laughable and pathetic. That's not even the worst part. Not even close. The worst part is that the entire plot is EXTREMELY tiring to follow. Nothing to do with being difficulty to understand, it's not that. It's just tiring.... There are more than 15 hours of unbearably and unnecessarily enigmatic sentences, which seem to be made by some child who is beginning to be dazzled by the world of books. They're easy to understand, but god....... It really seems to be written by a top-notch writer. It's all very cheap, all the sentences. The way the whole story is told is a huge presumption, a huge mental masturbation by the screenwriters. And the game with Alan............. God....... God... It just makes everything even more unbearable. Hideous maps that don't help the player at all (same problem than Control) and useless mazes that only make the player more and more angry and disgusted. And the whole story he pursues is boring, just boring.... Nothing new and relevant is shown along the way. And, worse, always with that extremely tiring and cheap narrative of a horror storybook writer that you only find in airport stores. The combat system is extremely repetitive. You will only face 2 different enemies the entire game. Imagine a game lasting more than 15 hours and only 2 enemies? It's bizarre, absolutely bizarre. It's so ♥♥♥♥, so ♥♥♥♥, that I don't even have much to add. And that. Two enemies. And Saga's deduction framework (don't know the name people give to this ♥♥♥♥ in english) is unbearable. At first it seems like an excellent idea to help you understand the story in a natural way, but then it becomes simply stupid, having to go back and forth immediately. I love Control and Quantum Break, Alan Wake 1 was a 6/10 game but playable. This game is an absolute nightmare, it's just a torture. Nothing beyound incredible graphics worth here. It was the last game I pre ordered in my life.

I agree, I'd give it a 6/10 as well. I didn't hate it, and at times it was almost engaging. But the writing and characterization was at The Room level, some of the game design was ridiculous. The detective board was the gameplay equivalent of sorting laundry. The musical number I probably would have found hilarious if it was a short maybe 60 second cinematic, but it dragged on looooong past it's welcome. I loved the ending, because it was an ending. Could have been the worst ending ever written, I'd have still loved it. I was sooo done with this game, and the hour of being trapped un Saga's happy place listening to her have a juvenile argument with herself was the final nail. I was never so happy to see ending credits.

The Inception-like layers within layers and the commentary of the game's writer (Sam Lake) creating a writer (Alan) who creates Alex Casey who is Sam Lake but also Max Payne who Same Lake also created. And the writer's room, which serves not only as a sort of pause menu, but makes the player wonder if Alan is writing his own reality or if he's writing a world that exists within reality. It's bonkers stuff. And not discussing that is like reviewing 2001 A Space Odyssey without mentioning the movie's commentary on being human or our relationship with technology. Sure, you might not like, say, the acting, but that's not the point of the movie. But if you did mention all that, then disregard my comment lol

I still think Alan Wake 2 is a decent game, just decent though, better than Alan Wake 1? Not at all, though I have yet to finish it, so my opinion could change, but it took me til the tail end of the Coffee World Chapter to truly hook me in, but even then I can't help but be just a bit underwhelmed. They nailed the atmosphere and constant feeling of suspense, but it's not particularly scary, and that wouldnt be an issue if the game didn't try to lean so heavily on the horror genre, though a few times a Taken would surprise me, but most of the 'scares' are cheap jumpscares like you said, I HATE cheap jumpscares, and Alan Wake 2 does them a LOT, which is weird because the game keeps you in this constant state of suspense, and I feel they could have pulled off some genuinely good scares without cheap jumpscares, and the Retirement Home/Wellness Center is plagued with them, WHY? The Wellness Center is already creepy without the need for cheap jumpscares, it got so bad that I pretty much ended up muting the sound upon having to find HER, because that screaming jumpscare was just too damn frequent. The gameplay I think was better in the first game, I just don't think the Resident Evil gameplay style fits Alan Wake at all. The story being intriguing is really the only reason I want to finish this game, but I'm hoping the game finally answers many questions, like; why does the Dark Place exist? What made Cauldron Lake & Bright Falls such a hotspot for the supernatural? Are Saga & Alex real in-game or a figment in Alan's stories? What happened to Alice? Where's Alan's friend Barry from the first game? What's the deal with the Cult of the Tree? I need some closure, the first game can get away with some lingering questions, but the sequel NEEDS to address a lot of those questions. Also F@CK the Wolves in this game, I bloody hate them!

I overall enjoyed it, and the only point I really agree with you about is the jump scares and sudden raw shack. Looking screens and scratching noises and so forth were a little annoying at times. It's kind of a remedy thing these days. Overall story is a little too abstract for me, and I'm not convinced that it actually makes sense when you really stop and think about it, but I did enjoy the game. I liked the saga Anderson parts better than the Allen wake parts because they were a little bit more cohesive and sensical. I don't agree with you about the gameplay and combat since I had absolutely no trouble with it on hard mode and found it quite enjoyable. I think you have to have a lot of experience with horror games to really appreciate it, but the fact that you found it frustrating probably has nothing to do with the game itself. Being bad. It's just you're not good at these kinds of games. lol

It was an amazing example of endless-lucidly that the Dark Place is trying to portray.

Man at first I found the jumpscares in Alan Wake fun but a few hours into the game it was overused and my gosh it was annoying asf, visually it's absolutely amazing I stopped multiple times just to appreciate it. The combat well fcking sucks it's slow asf and the character movement is too damm slow, although the mind place was a good concept to help the player understand the story better it was annoying having to go through things you've already spent hours on especially if it's mandatory for story progression.

Alan Wake in general is overrated. As a PlayStation guy I didn’t get to try Alan Wake until the remake on ps5. I admit I was really excited to see what all the fuss was about after hearing years and years of positive talk. So naturally I bought it day one. I am after all a fan of good games. Unfortunately I was really let down after I completed the full contents of the remake. I found the game quite laughable at most times. Which I guess is fitting since I feel like I fell for one hell of a bad joke. Control was a better game overall but it to was flawed and barely competent And now Alan Wake 2 appears to be one of the most try hard games I’ve ever seen. And boy it doesn’t look good. I was waiting for reviews before I bought in.. but after watching about 5 hours of gameplay.. you got me fucked up if I’m gonna spend any more money on this Remedy-Verse horse shit. Fuck that noise. How people hold these games in such high regard is beyond me.

I know that some games are call to different people, but I really done get how so many reviews are so positive of this game. You walk slower than a baby who took his first step yesterday, you’re better off avoiding combat instead of fighting, the story is just a rip off of stranger things and shutter island. I’m so upset that I paid 70 bucks for this and it’s too late for the refund.

Well the game is not for everyone, but I really think you were just ranting for the sake of ranting here. Also kinda lost quite a bit of credibility by either just blatantly lying about so many facts on the game, like amount of enemies, amount of weapons etc. or just don't bother to actually check things out, which is pretty weird if you really had this game in that platinum bag. I do agree on your opinion about game being bit too easy tho, I played it on hard and barely never ran out of any ammo or health stuff, maybe that will be fixed with the free update with newgame+ & nightmare difficulty. Also Bosses were kinda too easy, and if not playing with hard difficulty, they were almost nonfactor.. I would recommend everyone playing this with Hard difficulty anyways for better experience. About game not being scary.. I guess that depends what you compare it to, I didn't get scared much either, but I kinda still liked the atmosphere it was building and the weird aura everything had. I have still seen quite many streamers screaming their asses off when playing this game.. so I think its fair to say its plenty scary for most people. The flashy jumpscare things were bit cheap sure, but they also had also had meanings other than just spooking people, the developers also used them to mask out the changing environment many times. Also saying there were 50-100 times of them happening.. naah.. There were few parts they were frequent enough to be mildly annoying tho. but closer to 30 times than 100 for sure. The narrative was on point tho, its weird, its out of the box and so much more than we usually get out of any games, Also I really don't think the game having music is taking anything out of the experience, quite contrary. The game is already 20-30hours long, so even if you don't like most of the music stuff, just skip it and there are still plenty of content without it. Also, waiting for sales.. well there is Black Friday coupon on Epic game store right now that lets you get 33% off from AW2. 6 out of 10 is pretty rough.. I think I'd give it at least 9, maybe even 10 after they iron out all the bugs, which have been mostly taken care of at this point. The reason I'd give it such high rating is just mostly because its such an unique experience. Its hard to even compare it to a game, or compare game to it. Sure there are better games.. but are there better experiences? Its like playing a game, that is a movie, that has musical.. ? But as any other experience you either love it or you hate it. Everyone has their right for their own opinion of course, but I find it sad when so many people don't go to these experiences with open mind and go along the ride to enjoy it. Instead let their preconceptions ruin their joy, not only in AW2, but so many other things in life.

How am I exaggerating about enemy types , there might be 5 all of which have the exact same tactic to kill them destroy there shield with light then shoot them . Horrid boring simplistic boss fights , cheap jump scares out of place dance numbers , when ur Alan all you literally fight are black shadows , then the generic Gouls in the concert scene I can go on and on i platinumed the game I’ve seen all it has to offer , looks great graphically but the gameplay and level design was horrid , everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is a 6/10 I know I’m in the minority , but to me this game was truly a disappointment. Like I said in the video good game but a bad survival horror game

@@JWAGS412 9 Different enemy types, and that is not counting bosses, but I guess with your logic resident evil 4 has 3 different enemy types too and in that game you don't even have to use the light, just shoot them. and I really don't remember any survival horror game have any good boss fights anyways, this is no exception. Level design being horrid.. I really can't agree on and gameplay is typical survival horror stuff, nothing more, nothing less.
