Strange seeing video of him talking after just hearing his voice for so long. First, he's so cool haha with the cigar and the things he says. Second, how prophetic.

I think him smoking a cigar tells you a lot about his mindset. It helps me solidify what he says about attachment to religion and living life like you're playing music - just bring present. At my imaginary dinner party where I could invite anyone, he would be invited. I'm only 37 and I'm sure I'll be listening to him for the rest of my life. I've been doing so for the past five!

Been listening to several utube interviewe n have some new found respect for watts. Hes the only ‘guru’ type from that LSD era who admired men like Joseph Campbell and Baghavan Dass, RICHARD ALBERT n’ who readily admitted to his human male flaws. Other philosophy orators like Terrence McKenna years later etc never admitted to their most basic charlatantism - TM the shroom dude whom i love couldnt allow himself to simply admit to being quite the drug addict. Watts became a brilliant orator n drunk n chain smoking scoundrel who understood the levity of his own mask. Cant take life too seriously or else one believes he’s truly some gift to the earth. No man has ever been a gift. We’re all flawed hominids with both feet in our graves every second.

This is the message you take from his life's work? Alan Watts is not to be pitied. He was blessed with an excellent intellect and developed the tools to go beyond his intellect. What is more, he was eloquent enough to be able to relate much of what he knew to the wider world. Or to try to, because words will only get you so far, as he himself conceded. Watts strikes me as a man who really lived. Not a poor man by any yardstick that matters.

I encourage you fellow readers to really look at Alan watts in his older age here. Look at his eyes as he speaks. This man was not at peace. I think Alan gave up Christianity because he loved sex. The truth will piss you off. Alan just tells you what you want to hear. I love sex too, but I understand there is a design to life and relationships. As someone who has been celibate for the past two years, I can say Alan is making things up about celibacy in his talks on it. Sex is like fire and it’ll burn your life down over time if it’s outside the design of marriage.

You are right in some ways but I've been trying to be celibate for more than a decade and have given up now

@@user-kv4xt2oh3d I don’t think celibacy can be done with only human will power. God’s Spirit is the only way, asking him to help us see women as he intended and not as sexual objects. I still struggle with lust of the eyes and am currently working with God on acknowledging the attraction I feel which is not wrong, but then keeping it there and not going further in my mind and heart, asking him to help untangle my desires that go right to sex. A woman’s beauty points to heaven, God’s glory. It’s a good thing, but we want to grab that beauty and hold onto it.
