I did one the other day total job £2500 parts and labour, think it took me like 6/7 hours. Apparently the water pump went at 65k miles so a garage replaced it, within 10k miles the belt stripped the teeth and hit all the rockers, didn’t take a chance on anything, new cams, chain & tensioner, 16 new rockers we did the whole lot because you just don’t know plus if you had to pull it apart my company will be losing money! But on further inspection looks like the engine has been opened up bottom end and top so I think they didn’t time up the fuel pump properly which cause the belt to strip maybe I’m wrong but that’s my guess! Love these videos helps me out a lot !

Same sh** like any PSA dv6, service retail doesnt sell stretching bolts without the entire camshaft bearing cover so you have search your own replacement bolts, seal properly the intake, injector seal kit, camshaft oil seal, vacuum pump gasket, top cover gasket which comes entirely with the cover including the PCV, sometimes you have to replace high pressure injector pipes too because it has only 4 or 6 times use if not leaks... There is two ways to do these engines: fast and leaky or properly with the empty pocket afterwards

Why don't you renew the belts and tensioner at 150 thou to prevent it snapping
@gloveyourway20003 жыл бұрын
Aye, or (if you want to be really tight) just replace the tensioner (or nylon guide if you can replace it separately) at 200k. From the video, I get the impression chain failure (assuming you're changing the oil regularly and keeping up with all other maintenace items) is due to the nylon guide (forming part of the tensioner) disintegrating, causing metal to metal contact between the chain and tensioner. If you're got some basic tools, are good with your hands, and some time, it’s a job you could do at home.
@hoojchoons22583 жыл бұрын
I remember when the Duratec V6 first came out Ford started the chain was designed to last the life of the engine.....100K!! What's the logic with using a belt and chain? Also, do Ford state a service interval for the chain? The nylon part (in the tensioner) obviously won't last forever so at the very least they should stipulate a change of the tensioner @ X miles.

The importance of keeping the oil changed. If that had not been done, then it would have been in a far worse state. The inside of that lump otherwise looked good. BMW had terrible problems with the chain the 2.0 N47 diesel lump. VW also had problems in their engines with their chains as well due to old worn out kit being used to stamp out the chain parts and them snapping. For the piece of mind, I think I'll if nothing else change the tensioner at 200K miles as it seems that is the weak point rather than the chain itself.
@michaeljohnson10063 жыл бұрын
Alan/ good video 😀 When i do an oil change I've started tipping 1/2 litre of clean oil into the engine with the sump plug out. It works a treat at getting the any sludge out the sump and engine I find even with a high mileage 406 hdi diesel. When u fill the engine back up the oil on the dipstick is clean even after running for a while!

Nice Job Alan, you could tell it was good the moment you revved it, the response was perfect. On a side note, how difficult is it to drop the sump on those in situ ? On my mk4 1.6, I reckon the worse case would be to lower the exhaust for clearance but other than that, it looks like it should come straight down and would be easy enough to be able to check the pan for damage.

Hi Alan this is about something related to mk5 and mk4. My 2013 Mk4 reverse lights were stuck on when I returned to the car park last Tuesday 8 February. Since then, according to 2 KZbin videos I have watched there is a good chance it has been caused by water ingress from the washer pump. This resulting in capillary action of water into the CEM. Thus corroding the terminals associated with the said lamps. My query is have you seen this on the Mk 5 mondeo? Any way, my solution will be to by pass the wires from pump to CEM. Use a hair dryer to dry the CEM. Use Bosnic. To seal a new pump around the contact area. Diamond clean the CEM plug contacts and hopefully it will work?
