I was referring to the song itself not the artist or the album. How many people would name this song in their top favourites. That is the point I was making. But having condescending replies like yours makes reading comments such a joy. Please don't reply . Cheers !!!!!
@SandcastleTheory9 ай бұрын
@@no-oneman.4140 Apologies, if I upset you. That was not my intention. Much in the way of tone gets lost in text. My point (if only for posterity) was simply that, evidently, it was a favourite song for millions of people; and, presumably, still is. No higher standards could it have possibly met. I'm not trying to take away your love for the song, or patronize you. Not at all. I'm just saying, underrated it is not, and never was. The use of that word in general, these days, is rampant and frustrating. Whatever might be trending on modern social media, at any given moment, does not reflect the greater state of music, artists, or their fans. Cheers!

@@TobiaTesan you can have as many doubts as you like, my friend, but it doesn't alter the facts. One aspect of the song listeners have frequently noted is the tune's distinctive fretless bassline. While a common belief holds that the melody was played using an actual fretless bass guitar, Myles' bassist for the rest of her self-titled album, Steve Webster, acknowledged in an online discussion forum that he did not perform the bassline on "Black Velvet" himself; rather, it was Tyson who played the riff on a synthesizer, using a fretless bass sample.[7]

Some bands and artist don't understand. They try to top a song by covering. Won't never happen to a really good Song. Just changing one member of the original lineup can surely destroy the "feeling". Songs grow into musicians and bands, its not just "songs". No one can ever top this. Also: you can never sing or play the same exact way as another person. This is a fact.

Talent wasn't the prime driver of who that might be. Met some of em....I wasn't even looked at. Invisible. Kinda way it was supposed to be but there are ways of bein ignored that are more disrespectful. My life and living had nothing to do with them and....ah, nevermind. This tune is just perfect. It reminds me of that perfect night when everything is just right. I won't comment Alannah's voice cause she sang this perfectly. Her voice has so much emotion and nostalgia of times which I never lived. But the guitarist really, really nailed it. These are some of the tastiest blues licks ever. The song's opening makes me feel like I'm somewhere in the wild, at the banks of Mississippi. If you haven't, listen to the new version of the song that Alannah recorded recently, it's great.

@NatandGeorge6 жыл бұрын
Some lyric analysis: "Jimmy Rogers on the Victrola up high" - Jimmy Rogers, an early blues singer, influencing Elvis (the baby) at an early age. The Victrola is the record player, played loudly. "Mama's dancin' with baby on her shoulder" - Gladys Presley dancing with the infant Elvis. "Black velvet and that little boy's smile" - You can buy a black velvet Elvis painting at any respectable yard sale. Early female fans were drawn to his "Little boy smile." "Black velvet with that slow southern style" - Elvis delivered some of his songs with slow, undulating hips. Check out "Steamroller Blues" live. "Up in Memphis the music's like a heatwave" - Sun Studios. The epicenter of early rock music and where Elvis recorded. "White lightning, bound to drive you wild" - rock music and booze. "Mama's baby's in the heart of every school girl" - A reference to the baby in the early part of the song, being loved by all the young girls. "Love Me Tender leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle" - Love Me Tender was a huge hit for Elvis in 1956. "The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true" - Elvis' legendary hips swivel, the Pelvis. "Every word of every song that he sang was for you. In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon, what could you do?" - Elvis died suddenly in 1977. "A new religion..." - refers to the Church of Elvis, a legally registered religion in the USA. (HQ in Las Vegas, of course)
@keetonplace6 жыл бұрын
George Pope Pretty good review of the song. Love me Tender Had them Crying in the Aisles referred to the movie Love Me Tender, his first. I really don't think she was referring to any religion except for those of us who love him almost like a religion. It was written by Canadians on a bus full of Elvis fans heading to Graceland. It won a Grammy in 1989 for best song.

When the song came out in 1956, I curled up in corner of our dining room next to the big victrola, bit piece of furniture with turntable on one side and radio on the other. I sat and listened to him sing Love Me Tender for first time on radio and I cried softly. I was 14.

David Bently: true, but his parents moved to the outskirts of Memphis when he was young. They were poor and lived on the other side of the tracks so he grey up around blues singers. They taught him. Even his “look” fake from the store in Memphis where the blues legends bought their clothes. Blue suede shoes, long collar, etc. He didn’t go to Memphis for or after fame, he came from it. He was surrounded by Gospel and Blues. So when some people say he “stole” the R&R sound, the truth is he was part of it. They welcomed him in and taught him blues. But his singing style was all his own!

Sara Horton, I don't comment, you really melted my heart. Beautiful words always touch my heart. Since I am blind, light hurts me, so I listen in the darkness. Although in the dark, Someone helps me. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful thing you did.
