I am a collegiate wrestler and football player, and take care of my disabled dad. A whole body strongman focused routine is a godsend in time savings. I can just blast calories since weight isn't an issue and get stupidly strong with fairly minimal effort.

Switched last year to a full body program to incorporate more running as I was training for a half marathon…the days of me going for huge numbers are over and it feels really good having a strong core/endurance for real life activities and what not

Do you think full body was better for your running? I’m thinking of just doing one upper one lower a week (training for sub 3hr marathon but still want to have a decent upper body). Or you reckon 2 FBs - maybe a pull and push would be more sustainable when mileage goes up

I do a 4-day cycle: S/B/D/military press, rinse and repeat, each day with accessories following the main lift. Basically upper/lower type of stuff. I like it so far!

Can you increase your bench/ohp that way? Unless I specialize in one (either bench or pressing minimum twice usually three times a week counting variation) it doesn’t progress, even gets weaker if my diet is bad..
@ExecutionSommaire
@ExecutionSommaire 2 сағат бұрын
@@icedwhitechocolatemochafra9851 Yeah I feel like everything is going up slowly. But I really go hard on each one: a comfortable single, 2 sets in the low rep range, 3 sets medium range, AMRAP, then 3 sets of a variation (decline on bench day, incline on OHP day) - honestly a press is a press, initially I was afraid that benching once every 4 days wasn't enough, but the main thing is that you're not NOT pressing for 4 days. I've done bench 3x a week too, made it impossible to also work on the OHP.

As a new Dad and also a PhD student, I can really relate to these workouts being easier to schedule. I just dont have the availability to be able to commit to my previous programing with dedicated days for each movement. Been watching for a long time, thanks for keeping up the awesome content Alan.

If I'm super busy and know I won't get a full week of training in. I ussually call and audible and switch to total body to get a little of everything instead of keeping my same split and just skipping those muscles completely that week.

I've been training for 4 years and all I've ever done is full body. The idea that missing a day doesn't really hurt your training much has always appealed to me and more importantly, WORKED! If I had started on a 5 day PPL split or something 4 years ago, no way I'd still be training today. Hearing that full body workouts can even be preferred by someone as seasoned as Alan is kind of validating!

I also feel that if I do 2-3 hard sets of one exercise, that muscle group is pretty toasted and the gains from pushing an additional number of sets on the same session is marginal, while if i start fresh a few days later i can push that same muscle much harder again

Got in the best shape of my life doing full body, tried HIT for a year and a half to test it out, lost all my work capacity and found it much harder to stay lean than it was before, did learn some good lessons though… fast forward, just started full body again and brought in some stuff I learned from HIT, body composition and work capacity are getting noticeably better, recovery is better (because recovery time can be an adaptation as well as hypertrophy), and making great gains.

The ideas in this video are pretty much on par with some of the reasoning for what I have programmed. I do a 4 day front/back split, essentially starting with an upper body front lift (bench), Lower body front lift (narrow squat), Upper body rear (row or pullup), and lower body rear (wide stance good mornings). Most of the rest of the lift is the entire rear or front of the body. There are overlapping movements like chins, which are 3 days in the 4 day split. It is programmed such that if I do 4 days in a week, I'm doing well, but if I only do 4 days in a given 2 week period, I hit body parts that can grow with low frequency at least once a week, and body parts (like arms, lats, quads) that I want hit with more frequency, they are hit "1.5 times" a week. I find it really difficult to do a full body program, recovery wise, but there is a serious problem with body part splits (like chest, arms, legs, abs, back, etc) where I think they work well for people that lift for a living, maybe also with a drug stack that allows 2-a-days with recovery, you need to go in the the gym pretty much every day to hit all these body parts with appropriate frequency. For the rest of us, I think that hitting every body part every time, or at least every second time in the gym, would probably be most conducive to progress.

If you miss leg day because something came up on friday, the obvisous choice would be to do that leg day on monday instead. No need to skip a session, just do it later instead. (That being said, I almost always combine lower and upper body)

Powerlifting programs will have most sessions with at least two of the compounds. So that means if you're training 3x or 4x a week you'll have at minimum 2 "full body" days. I don't know why those people you mention flopped during competition. Not having full body days, does not seem like an actual reason to me.

Following channel a bit for a while, Alan seem to be a great guy but the training looks all over the place 😅 I am follower of Juggernaut systems, good systematic approach to training with blocks for hypertrophy, strength and peaking is what gives best results over time. Note that the strongest powerlufters and strongman guys are very muscular, you benefit so much from the good old bodybuilding blocks and also you give your joints time to recover from heavy ass lifting all the time. I don't want to be mean but Alan please do some bulk and couple of hypertrophy blocks dude 💪🏻
