I had a life changing experience not so long ago, and the way I looked at the world changed completely. Not just my values and ideals, but literally the way it looked is different. It's tough to convey to others, but it's somewhere between seeing the world through a third person perspective, and seeing my life as an infinite series of slides. I can't pretend things matter anymore. I can't go back to the way I used to be. I feel shell shocked, looking around at the world, with the veil lifted for the first time. I grapple with the idea that maybe I have had a psychotic break, that maybe I'm crazy or delusional, but I feel lucid, reasonable. It's as though I was navigating life as a maze, and suddenly I've been lifted over the walls, and can see the whole thing from above. It makes exploring the maze seem psychotic. It makes looking for purpose, happiness within the maze seem silly. In any sense, Alan Watts helps me feel comfortable with this revelation. Maybe the world looks very different to me, now, but that's okay. Throughout my life I will have many understandings of the world around me, some more useful, some less. Either way, peace, compassion, and thoughtfulness are admirable principles, and to work towards a better understanding of my own mind is a worthwhile quest. Thanks to Watts and the community.

I felt that the ego is the third person idea. When I listened to Watts I felt that I had up to now constantly been seeing myself from the third person, but that the real me is the subjective experience itself, pure "first person consciousness" that suffuses all life, the "I Am" of God/Atman.

This message really resonates-it’s fascinating to see how the West has shifted from seeing the universe as a creation of a divine artisan to viewing it as a mechanical, unintelligent system. But if we start to view everything, even rocks and minerals, as forms of primitive consciousness, it reminds us that life is rich with purpose and connectedness at every level.

The thing about Allan Watts though, is that I enjoy the philosophy and looking at our existence from a different perspective, but I've long ago abandoned any notion of "woowoo" supernatural stuff. I simply cannot believe in that which cannot be empirically demonstrated to be true. Take heart in the fact that literally millions of us have examined our beliefs and found them to be lacking. Consciousness reflecting upon itself, gives consciousness to the reflection. Like looking in a mirror and your reflection comes to life. Both sides of the mirror are both the source and the reflection. Nothing exists unless there is something else to observe it. Reflection is the only way to create another you, if you are the only one that exists. This is how ONE can become TWO, in order to bring the ONE into existence.

Consciousness pervades the universe. We have antennas called brains that can tap into different levels of it. As we evolve, we develop potentials for greater realizations of that One consciousness. We develop concepts of it, all kinds of philosophies and systems of belief, but we always fall short of an accurate identification. Its potentials are limitless and the value, the real realization, is to realize that you are a part of it. There is no separation. Since you come from it, you are like a leaf on a cosmic tree and its not just you or a lower form of life... it is every atom in the universe.

I did the same for Jung and then tried Napoleon and Hitler (chatGPT would't do Hitler but he would do Napoleon, which we discussed too). It was kind of calming and I suppose it helped me, although the replies were ofcourse pretty generic and perhaps too straight forward. The beauty of listening to actual lectures is that they don't attach directly to the most profound questions I have concerning my private life and today's world. We just listen and try to relate to whats being said. I suppose that pretty human, in the end.

Personally, when I use the article "I" in speech, it's used in such a way that the audience listening associates the concept being explained or the story being told as something personal. The article "I" is used as a frame of reference for the listener, so that they understand the data that follows is a personal interpretation of an experience rather than a repetition of an external influence. "I" is just a trigger word to symbolize it comes from within, rather than the world itself
