I am a high ranking EU diplomat. I don't really have a fixed work title as I do various job. I am sort of a "MacGyver for the Swedish/(and governments in general)". I should also note that my cousin Markus who has "only" a vocational college education is as of September 2024 my assistant and I am training him to similar jobs as he hasn't had the chance to go to university and is deeply bitter over the fact.

A strong central government isn't a good idea. Syria is too heterogeneous for that. A federal system would be better, with minority communities retaining some degree of self-government.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. For now, he'll be lenient, allow journalists into the country, show them the good side of Syria...but that will eventually change to one of repression. I hope it won't, but Syria's never known democracy, and their leader's past makes me wonder if the country ever will have a democratic government.

They achieved a quick replacement of the Assad/Russian supported regime. Relatively low loss of military soldiers/fighters/civilians from all sides compared to events in the past 15 years. The new leadership so far is doing a good job. Lets support Syrians who are being inclusive in getting the country to stable, peaceful operation. Let the Syrians work it out.
