This is what I always like to do to prevent the cleaning staff from unplugging my alarm system, put the outlet for the alarm system up high and out of reach. People normally don't mess with stuff that is difficult to get to. Sure. I can't even begin to tell you how many times that I have had battery chargers, phone chargers, clocks, and the like unplugged so someone can plug in the vacuum cleaner. It happens every time I am in a hotel. However, my garage door opener is plugged into an outlet on the ceiling and it almost never ever gets unplugged for something as silly as plugging in a vacuum cleaner. Because the outlet is out of reach. Additionally, installing an additional outlet just for accessories also helps. In my situation, I kinda have to install an extra outlet because I have a central vacuum system and common sense will say that you need an outlet benext to the central vacuum wall valve, so I have to install an extra outlet anyway. But, I only like to plug my alarm system into an outlet that is difficult to get to.

Can I use this with a Vista-10P in cellular only? I don't care about the connect service and I don't have LAN where the current 3G module is installed. My alarm company wants its customers to upgrade from 3G to 4G cellular and they want $400 to do this. Seems like I could buy this on eBay and do it myself if its compatible with the 10P.

I HAVE A VISTA-15 AND THE PROM IS WAV15-1.3. THE TECH FROM THE MONITOR COMPANY SAID THAT I NEED THE iGSM4G. WILL THAT WORK WITH MY CURRENT PANEL AND PROM?

I love you guys! Great information! But, what if the customer wants to go internet and their router isn't near the panel? What are the options?
@SterlingDonnelly6 жыл бұрын
You could have someone run an Ethernet cable through the wall from the router to the panel location. You could also elect to run the unit cellular only if it's not possible to get a wire run to the location. Finally, you could use a network WIFI adapter that you'd plug into the iGSM4VG Ethernet port and then pair wirelessly back to your router. Keep in mind, you'd want a battery backup for all the devices that provide the internet connection to ensure it works when there's a power outage.

Thank you very much for the input. I will take all these options into consideration when I come into this situation again, which is daily lately. Thanks again.

Great video Sterling, but I have a question. You explained the power requirements for the iGSMV4G but I am installing a 7847i communicator. My 7847i didn't come with a higher rated transformer like the iGSMV4G. Plus, my existing 1321-1 transformer is already powering a 5881EN wireless receiver. Do I need another transformer to power my Vista-20P + 5881EN + 7847i ?
@EternalImageTatt6 жыл бұрын
I've used the same transformer, the 40va transformer to power all 3 and had no issues. But I wouldn't try it off the 20-25 VA trans. Get the bigger one.
@SterlingDonnelly5 жыл бұрын
The 7847i has a very low current draw and that's why there's no separate transformer connection needed for the 7847i. You should have no issue wiring the 7847i right to the panel's ECP terminals, 4 through 7, and just ignore the part about terminals 1 and 2. Your panel can be powered by the 1321 or 1361 transformer in this type of configuration as both will provide enough power for the panel's 600mA output that powers the ECP connected devices.

Will this communicator work with a 15P panel and a WA15P-9.18 prom? Interested in cellular only and do not plan to run internet.

So the communicator only connects your system to a monitoring service?
@AlarmGrid4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gloria, yes, the AlarmNet communicators must be connected using a service plan of some type. To my knowledge, there are no providers of free service using this equipment. We have Internet monitoring plans beginning at $10 per month. This is no-contract, no activation fees, and no cancellation fees. With the $10 per month (Self-Bronze) plan you get access to Total Connect 2.0, which allows you to self-monitor your system using email, text, and/or push notifications from the system.

Have to admit, looks a little awkward you working on a bench that tall.
