Jesus died for my sins. I will do everything I can to glory Him during the rest of my life. Thanks be to the Lord my God and Savior Jesus Christ.

I love this song. The contemporary stuff just doesn't touch my heart like this. Lord Jesus, I love you so much! I don't know why you died for this worm, but I praise You forever for doing so! I give myself away, use what's left of this life as You see fit.
@ILoveOldTWC2 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't touch my heart either. These hymns with the theologically rich lyrics can't be matched the many of the contemporary's songs repetitious lyrics that are shallow.

The refrain (which my pastor dislikes intensely) is contemporary, even if the original verses aren't.

@@Da_Big_G yeah the chorus feels tacked on and doesn’t match the more ornate language style of the versus. Not to mention by the 4th time they sing “and now I am happy all the day…” it sounds like a funeral procession rather than happiness.

I was astonished when our Southern Baptist hymnal changed the words "for such a worm as I" to "a sinner such as I." We all know what kind of worms we were. Thank God He has made provision to change all of that in our lives.

Amen! Just like they change the word of God with new Bible per-versions. These people have a problem with God's holy word. Mark 9: 43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Psalm 22:6-8 6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. 7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
@Azishome4 жыл бұрын
@@stephenlarson523, hi Stephen. If you'll check the context of the 22nd Psalm, you'll see that it is a prophetic Messianic Psalm--a Psalm that describes Jesus on the cross when all the sins and filth of all of mankind is being heaped upon Him. Psalm 55 further describes His horror of being overwhelmed with sin, so much so that the verse describes him of being clothed with it. So the Worm of Psalm 22 is Jesus on the cross, dying so that we might be rendered holy and pure. That's an amazing thought, isn't it? God bless you, Brother.

Thank you for having the correct lyrics in this hymn... even some "mainline" circles of "fellowship" have taken brazen boldness to change a word here or there. It would like my getting 4" paint brush for a barn to touch up a Rembrandt or using an ice pick to re-chisel the Michelangelo David statue. Please! Publishers be careful not to mar the manuscripts or the original works that bear the artists names!

Great hymn! As Christian first, and indeed, a Baptist, I learnt it as " a sinner such as l". It makes sense. Whether we are described as "a worm such as l", or a fly, it's just a description of our state. We are sinners, and indeed its at the cross that we first saw the light. I enjoyed this tune and learned it at the Baptist High School, Jos, as a student from 1961 to 1966. We enjoyed it when we sang it as Mrs Hall, and Mrs Faw, both wives of our Baptist Missionaries, played in our worship services, on different occasions!

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, Amen Glory to Thee for calling me into being. I was born a weak, defenceless child, but Thine angel spread his wings over my cradle to defend me. From birth until now Thy love has illumined my path, and has wondrously guided me towards the light of eternity; from birth until now the generous gifts of Thy providence have been marvellously showered upon me. I give Thee thanks, with all who have come to know Thee, who call upon Thy Holy Name. Glory to Thee, O God, from age to age! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Alas! and did my Savior bleed And did my Sovereign die? Would He devote that sacred head For such a worm as I? At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight, And now I am happy all the day! Was it for crimes that I had done He groaned upon the tree? Amazing pity! grace unknown! And love beyond degree! Refrain Well might the sun in darkness hide And shut his glories in, When Christ, the mighty Maker died, For man the creature’s sin. Refrain But drops of grief can ne’er repay The debt of love I owe: Here, Lord, I give my self away ’Tis all that I can do.

@toddtheurer12552 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Grace Community Church, for posting this & other great (simple, beautiful, powerful, old-fashioned) hymns of the Christian faith on KZbin -- which I just came across. The fact that modern songs, with less rich words & melody which seem to focus more on 'me' and less on the person/words/work of Jesus Christ and His great love for us, have largely displaced these traditional hymns is disturbing to me -- to the point that newer songs can be slightly repulsive and a turn-off. When Jesus' church tries to attract/please the world by adopting more secular music, this just does not seem right to me. Please keep these great recordings active on KZbin!

Changing the words of the hymn isn't correct. The original words were by John H Stockton 1813-77. His words were from the Gospel, not Man's world which the bible tells us to beware of.
