We self guide ourselves, as well as use commercial guides. Every year we fly home with 100 lbs of salmon and halibut fillets.

I have seen a few people with this camping idea the last few years. I’m really surprised not more folks do it this way.

I used to see so many who did this but even cheaper. In the 90's and probably before too, the hillsides along roads near coastal towns were full of people hiding out and camping in tents under blue tarps. like what you see on the news about sanfrancisco/LA streets only not as bad.

So what is your process? You fly into Anchorage then take a cab/Uber over to a Uhaul rental place and rent the van, then go buy 4 buckets and a sheet of plywood plus food/propane/supplies? Just trying to think through the logistics and what kind of things you would need to buy there versus bring with you in your luggage.

Yes that’s pretty well it. Buy cheap one piece salmon rods at Walmart, cheap Styrofoam coolers, $27 full size blow up mattress, $8 sleeping bags, and bring waders, Zodi propane shower that fits in a suitcase. End of trip go to a church and donate the Walmart stuff/Home Depot items back to the needy, check your frozen fish in with your luggage, and fly home. We bring our own fly rods, and our own fishing reels. Buy fishing lures locally when we arrive.

The fishing ports have businesses that offer cleaning, vacuum sealing, and freezer space. The charters tell you where to go
