many hours of research, know where you are going first. I only hunt wooded areas. Where people lived hundreds of years ago. Find areas that are difficult to reach. Areas that require at least half hour more hike through the woods. Most will not take the effort to get there, they won't.

If you think the mosquitoes are bad just wait for the Nats to show up. Oh you'll love them. The nats drive the caribou and moose literarily crazy. Sometime when a herd of caribou are running it's because of the nats biting them. Once they find some snow patches they try to hang out on the patch the nats don't like the patches cause the temp is lower on the patches of snow. Nats don't usually start showing up until mid August or later depends on the weather. Most of the time these are called moose nats. The spelling can be knat, gnat, or nat.

Great video, Beau; however, one criticism: The water was running too fast in the sluice and you probably lost 50% of the gold you dug....maybe more. I've sluiced much I the past and slower water speed in the sluice is critical. Jus' sayin'......and the skeeters up in Prudhoe Bay are 10 times worse during caribou migration.

At 10:58 when you dumped the water out of the pan, was that not a big nugget on the left? I kept watching it swirl around in the pan and I was like nonononono grab it!! Maybe it's just a tan rock but it sure looked like a nugget

@arcooke

You can only catch a glimpse of it a couple times while panning. He seems to be a little too aggressive with his panning technique, it's not out of the realm of possibility for a nugget to fall out if it's sitting on top of the heavy black sand

deweys I lived in Alaska for 20 years. You eventually get used to them. If you think the mosquitos are big and bad wait until the knats (pronounced "nat")show up. They bite hard & drive the caribou and moose crazy. A lot of time the caribou will be running in a herds because the knats are driving them crazy. The large knats will bite you and leave a spot with a white core in the middle. This spot will get infected if you don't get that core out so It can heal up. They're nasty buggers

should use something like a length of dredge hose to connect the lay-flat hoses so they don't kink... then, you won't get any burst hoses and pipes and such... something I've seen from Gold Hog, and it makes a ton of sense. then, could use quick clip fittings to connect everything and would end up being super simple and low maintenance... so, less time fiddling with equipment, and more time getting the gold =)

Hi. I have watched all the Gold Rush videos on TV. I see that they will not let the water run if they are not feeding the plant, otherwise the gold which has been caught, could be washed out. You did this on your last video, as you took your time to get down to the pump to shut it off. could have lost some gold. Danny.
