Alaska Cabin Adventures

Alaska Cabin Adventures

6 ай бұрын

Dick Proenneke built an off-grid cabin in Alaska the same year and the same size as this rugged and remote cabin, only this cabin was abandoned 6 months after it was built. Today ‪@TruckHouseLife‬ and I go on an epic adventure to visit this incredible homestead and explore the massive glaciers and mountains that surround it. This is a story of survival, adventure, and friendship in The Last Frontier.

People respect the history and amazing luxury of having a shelter in these far away places. The hard work and dedication of getting there and surviving drives the idea of respect and good will to others. Matt and Tim are the epitome of hard work, dedication and respect of these remote areas. Leaving new firewood for the next visitor and keeping the cabin in the same or better shape that it was when the door first opened. I love that attitude!

45 year old grandma here lol 😂 from Manchester UK and found Timmy first and now these videos! If I ever win the lottery I want a long road trip around the states and Canada and then some heat in Mexico (I’m short and pale so probably burn very easily lol)! We never get any deep snow like this. A couple of inches and the trains and buses cannot run and schools shut. Need some Alaskan spirit!

Dick Proenneke is one of my Heroes! Who built his 12x16 ft. cabin by hand himself. He was a man with great wisdom and knowledge about living in the Alaska Wilderness! Thank you for reading the history about the place! It is always fascinating to hear what it was like back then. Great video and the music was Awesome, especially the sound of the Mandolin !

2 is one 1 is none VERY wise words said to me by an old timer back when I was 16 and knew it all - and PROPERLY got my butt into a whole heap of trouble. Over the last 50 years since then I have passed those words of wisdom along every chance I got. By the way, old milk jugs are not thick or strong enough to handle the strain of carrying water when the going and bumping gets tough. They often split and then you have a problem - sometimes a BIG problem if you are in a water scarce area like we are. 5 liter (1 gallon) *NEW* oil cans work a lot better if you can get them. Even better are thick wall 1 liter SQUARE screw top water bottles - once again, IF you can get them. If 1 pops you only loose 1 liter - if a 3 gallon milk jug pops you loose all 3 gallons and a big plus is that the smaller water bottles can fit into all the nooks and crannies which makes easier packing. Half liter bottles work even better in that regard. Good adventure in this video guys...

I am in awe how much your creativity and somber perspective in the “trees down, we’re never making it” situation out to Nugget Creek. Your music, your narration and your sense of “oh shit” totally coincides with my thoughts and behaviors. For the first 20 years of my life, I made a conscious effort to be like your friend, Timmy. But as I hit an older, more wiser stage of my life and had younger folks looking up to me, I got less adventurous because I was afraid of getting out of the woods. But something tell me, it’s trip like that build something Greater! Cheers my man! Congrats on making whatever it is you make and sharing it with the rest of us. Inspiring and brave!

This is my favorite channel on KZbin. Matt does absolutely wonderful photography and narration. But I’m constantly torn between thinking: Wow, that looks like fun and Wow, what makes anybody in the world think it’s fun freezing your butt off in all that snow?! At 71, I’m fascinated to watch you do it, Matt, and delighted I don’t have to do it myself.

You are correct, but it was International/Navistar I believe that supplied them to Ford. I heard a story that they hot tested them before they sent them to Ford. Cabin was built the year I was born. D.O.B 11 July 1966. My husband and I still love camping and exploring. I wonder if the interior of the cabin was what you were taking into consideration. I bet the extra 4 or 5 feet was the overhanging area where the entrance and wood holding area is cuz you were pretty right on the width. We live in Ozark, Missouri and are considering buying about 20 or 30 acres of land and building a cabin and having our 3 grown kids taking a few acres of the land and building on their own corner. Really enjoyed watching.

My son (in his 30’s) and I go on a once a year Mom & Son trip. We both love the mountains so always make BC our destination as we live in Alberta, makes for a nice drive. This year we are taking a helicopter flight in the fall over the Rockys. I would love to do an overnight winter camp on another trip. I’m 61 and want to experience all I can now before my health dictates otherwise (I’m not sick just mindful of how life can change so fast). I especially want to do these things with my son to expose him to these beautiful experiences. Someday I hope to see Alaska with my own eyes and I thank you for giving me insight into Alaska. 👏🇨🇦

Took the McCarthy road on the way to a sheep hunt in 1978. Old memories. Thanks! BTW the trestle was a couple rough cut 4×12's side by side each side tire support. With a six by six if I remember right. Fastened to the outside of a 4×12. The garden rails. I see in another video that they now have a substantial enough planking for campers. The good old days! 75 this month. Probably never get back. 6 years living in Alaska and loads of wonderful times to remember! Thanks again for your video's!
