I completely agree with you guys about using a white tarp. I learned how to camp when I volunteered to be a cub scout leader ( UK scouting). As I had very minimal experience prior to volunteering, me and the other volunteers had to learn how to survive in the wilderness. So we attended the 'nights away' training. It was based at a camp site. The first we stayed in cabins, whilst we learned how to assemble army tents, start a fire using a flint, striker and birch bark. The rest of the time we were sent a couple miles away from the cabin and had to get on with it. We were given food provisions, as hunting in the UK isnt really allowed on the most part, but the rest was up to us. It rained the WHOLE time! The Uk's army tents are very low to ground and are made with a thick green canvas. Whilst we where able to keep relatively dry, it was soo dark, and what light did pass through was green toned. So yeah definitely agree that a white tarp is best. Especially on rainy days when your essentially confined to either the mess tent or the sleeping, only briefly going outside to toilet or to gather water or food prep. You were both amazing to have survived 49 days in the absolute wilderness 👏👏👏🙌🙌💜❤️

When I was a kid, I had to live in the woods an entire year after mom and dad died, and the next year I joined the Army. I survived in the forest from spring through winter. How to start a fire without matches or a lighter after a drenching rain. These days, if I disappeared into the forest, they'd put out an alert for a lost senior citizen.

Had to watch this really helpful video again! After much thought I would bring the biggest Fish Net allowed instead of the rusty pan. The passive way, 24/7, of working to provide fatty protein, is tough to beat. One of the 2 knives should be a large Multi-tool that has a good metal file sharpener. These are just ideas from a novice, but I hope they add value to the quest.

I loved the explanation of each item. People that have not spent large amount of times in the outdoors don't always understand some of the choices. Like in California one of the places I loved fishing was a two-hour bike ride away and then a hike, unless they were one of my outdoorsy friends they didn't get why I rode so far away. One of my favorite things about that place on the way out they had a fish cleaning station, so I could clean them up line my cooler with the garbage bag put the fish in and stopped for ice for the ride back. It was one of my favorite things to do and I would take it Sketchbook and just draw landscapes or animals I saw. I'm that girl that be happy if you dropped her in the middle of the woods with a fishing pole and a knife, me and a couple friends used to take other people out camping. Some of my specialties was catching the fish like always a fish Whisperer oh, I don't know I started going fishing when I was so little with my brother. I'm sure remembers the time I grabbed his Tackle Box to hand it to him and it wasn't latched in everything fell into the water. I think that same trip I got stung by a bee on my finger. My brother and I would always go fishing it was just so awesome and relaxing and we would ride our bikes to get everywhere I had a boy's bike just so I could strap stuff to the top bar and I had a rack on the back. We would bring our quote on quote boat, my brother made it it was an inflatable he made a plywood bottom for an attached a mount for a chair and a motor. Everything broke down and could fit in the back of his buddies car, we've get everything ready the night before and leave at like 2 a.m. to get to our fishing spot and then just spend the entire day. I used to go biking through the woods all the time either by myself or with friends, I've seen tons of snakes I have had to deal with mountain lions. One time I was with a group of my friends and I was way ahead of everybody else because I tended to be the most experienced person in the group and checkout ahead oh, cuz sometimes areas could be washed out or blocked by trees that had fallen. So I am just zipping along and it's actually a very flat straight part oh, I see this blur of motion to the side of me and so I react by jumping up onto the seat while still holding on to The Handlebar and essentially coasting. I went a couple feet , got off and went back without looking down when I got off the bike. I didn't see anything so I went back to my bike and this is about when all my friends are showing up behind me, they're asking what's up as I'm picking up my bike and we all see it at the same time. A rattlesnake went to go strike me but went into the spokes of my tire, he got all shredded up... You could definitely say my adrenaline was going. I miss getting to go camping and Hiking I have too many medical issues now, but if I had somebody to go with me that knew what they were also doing I would try because it feels like I'm missing a part of my soul not being able to go out

Congratulations on your accomplishments: 49 days of Alone and 22 years together as a couple. You're a wonderful couple and I can see why you have been together that long. May you have 22 more. Your decisions on selected gear was awesome bar the frying pan of course. The white tarps decision blew me away! I would have never thought of it and would have taken my usual camo tarp; however, your reasons were absolutely brilliant! Now, I'll be shopping for a white tarp on ebay. I take a small squit bottle of liquid antibacterial soap with me in my large medic Fanny pack I wear backpacking and hiking, take it in all camping trips. Take a package of body wipes too. I care a old buck knife, keep it sharp and it's in good shape. Plus I carry a large pocket knife for s.all jobs I love to cook over the camp fire in a Dutch oven and on cast iron. I got a Birch branch I haveet season now for a couple years, I bought a wood carving kit and plan on carving me a walking stick. I love your videos. I really miss my mountain life, getting old and disabled after a accident now, but I get up there when I can. Love my Sierra Nevada mountains. Gorp is always been one of my favorite things to take backpacking or on a little canoe trip or a hike and just to take a big bag camping to have a special snack. I've done a lot of camping with kids over the years and they love it. I have found that I like to throw a few Honey nut Cheerios. And I like some pecans in it too. I guess my favorite mix would be Honey Nut Cheerios, dark chocolate chips, pecans or cashews, raisins and dried cranberries or dried cherries. The only thing with putting Cheerios in it is you have to be careful about smashing them up in your pack. So if it's going to be a long trip sometimes I opted for granola in place of the Cheerios, but for a day or just a one nighter the Cheerios work..

DR. BONNER'S PEPPERMINT. Definitely. It is so versatile. I keep a small spray bottle of it diluted with me in my edc. It is my go to for hygiene( a spray to freshen up on the go), bathing, (excellent for pan bathing), washing hair, hands), laundry, a weapon, deodorizer in a room, musty clothes, pests, cleaning just about anything. There's a recommended how to of uses listed on the bottle. It is quick, efficient, easy do, and reasonably safe. You, guys are cute.

I was just thinking, another thing I would have taken would've been Rosemary. I use it in tea form(a little goes a long way) for tea( beverage) of course, for cleaning wounds, anywhere, an eye compress, flavoring, and more. It is light weight and so versatile. I like the little things on the sides of head/ neck.
