Lost Ark did the exact same mistakes TERA did back in its days, TERA had the absolute best combat game style in any game ever, Bluehole/EnMasse got greedy with the cash shop and forgot that the game needs an actual player base and not a lottery RNG addicted crowd. I miss that game.

I had such high hopes for Lost Ark. I was playing the Russian server for a long time, even purchasing things on there. I loved it. I wanted so much for it to be here. And then I got it. Smh. I was so heavy into that from the beginning. But then I started to realize what AG was doing. And I just had to step back from the entire thing. I still miss that game, but I just can't support AG. I hate what they did with the classes and the renaming. I dislike what they were doing and which content was coming out, etc. Just wasn't the same. I did the same with Tera. I loved it and I miss it. My ninja and reaper. :(

i've been playing it since 2010, i love the F2P option so you can get in touch with old friends and you can use isk to buy plex which can then be transferred to a sub it can be expensive now but i do believe once you get a good group around you, you can earn isk with ease. its not pay to win as i have, on many occasions kills new pilots in blingy ships because they do not understand the game mechanics.

the main reason is that GMS (Western regions server) has Reboot which is an almost entirely F2P server where everything is done with ingame currency. It was a huge deal in Korea where people spend millions of dollars on a single character, but GMS players only spent ingame currency on it so it was less of a scandal here.

@@christianrolls8902 Probably stems from most critizisers have no clue what they are talking about - like Peons last GW2 review, where he judged an entire expansion after playing 10% of its content - while GW2, beyond all other MMOs, is a game of varied content, not just about a single aspect. A lot of critics also come from people not being used to and understanding horizontal progression as 95% of MMOs progress vertically. You can make fair critisizm about GW2 but that rarely happens.

EVE Online has a very large multibox problem, a significant amount of the community runs around in their own group of alt accounts via multiple paid accounts. I feel the "real player count" is misleading because the alts are not taken into account.

The Everquest TLP server Teek alone averaged over 5K concurrent users during peak daily usage for a good 3 months. It is down to about 3K now and should continue a slow decline, but indications are there will be another progression server in 2025. Combine that with the other 20 official servers and it rather easily bests Foxhole and Maplestory. It has to be at least 1.5x, possibly up to 2x.

Where does this conclusion come from? The majority of the WoW playerbase is in Retail. FFXIV is not a modern themepark MMO. T&L, GW2, Lost Ark, Once Human, ESO, BDO, New World, this is already the majority of the list that is modern MMOs. 3+ years playing WoW and the game seems like is growing fast. I have been picked(lucky) to help out new players during their game time and to tell you the truth i see new players every day i get on. I have been curious and asked the new players "how long you been playing WoW for? are you returning to WoW?" and to my shock most of them have never played WoW before but are so excited to be playing. Just a few hours ago i helped a new player with a quest out in the open world, this new player told me he stop playing runescape after he began playing Wow. I was surprised to hear him say this because i always hear good thing about runescape.

Lord of the Rings Online was worth a mention as well, new Legendary/ classic servers with modern 64 bit servers really increased the population density of the server. Recommended for any fan of the books and movies.

I used to love mmorpgs. But I've been finding it harder to get invested into such games again. Especially after playing incredible single-player games. I've started to value higher quality tailored experiences far more recently. Games like wow, destiny 2, and ff14 either feels like a waist of time or is too much of a time investment. Ff14, for example, has a 200-300 hour investment for the main story and its expansions. Not to mention everything that's in a mmo is mediocre compared to single-player games. Combat is usually not as good or not as satisfying, needless grinding. poe hits differently in this aspect and is an exception. The feeling of accomplishment is also not there anymore in these games. Not that a really feel like I need admiration from others anyway anymore, which i feel like is the main appeal of mmorpgs. Ah, maybe I'm just getting older.

Max level is like two small game session and then the progression of the games starts... also the game was pretty fire at launch. Most the circlejerk cpmplaints were lies. A lot of the real issue no one even talked about for many months. You have not even dabbled in the game. It offers some of the most fun pvp in all of mmos. Beats out bdo in some aspects. Make sure to get some of those thrills before putting it down. Relaunch was okay. Not much content romved at least 100 qol features. But hey console can play now. I pray the game can return to a good state in the next few months. This relaunch botched a lot of the good work ags has done in the last 3 years.

@@stonic5 You are correct. It kinda baffles me how overlooked the game is. The combat is genuinely better than 99% of things out there. Their issue is simply finding the right audience for it. It seems like theyre doing everything they can (including the console release) to find an audience. Honestly i dont really care for the skin of the game so if Amazon can put the combat system into the Lord of the rings mmo then Im sure it will succeed and keep a very good amount of players.

I started a new normal character on RS3 after playing OSRS for about a month... both games are great but some skilling features in RS3 ultimately won me over. I set restrictions on myself, such as not buying from the GE and doing the quests in Timeline order. It has been a blast so far. I might try ironman in the future if I ever feel like starting over.

ESO still remains one of my favorite MMORPG's, and it's super easy to get into. Especially with the world now being totally open to all three factions, and if you know what you're doing. You can easily cash in on 100k gold on your first day. Not to mention the gold you'd earn getting to that hundo thou, you'd probably be closer to 250k on your first day. Which is a decent little pile of starting gold. Leveling up skills is as easy as using them, morphing them, and maxing them out. Races are varied, and factions only affect where you start and which said of the cyrodiil you'd fight for. Magic builds are better for AOE damage, while Stamina is more centered on Single Target, but both can touch into the other pretty well. As long as you read your skills, and build your character accordingly, you wont have a problem. Smithing is a painstakingly long process, and building a guild with randoms that refuse to join a discord sucks. The community is generally pretty helpful, but you still get the occasional ALT F4 troll, or someone who spreads misinformation. Finally, if you just go from quest to quest, completing each zone to 100%, there is literally nothing to miss. You can also download add-ons to give yourself a minimap, and some add-ons that just show where all the hidden objects are like skyshards and lore books [which are required to level up the mages guild]. Overall, the game is expansive, still has a reasonably large player base, and PVP is incredibly fun. Though you will run into a ton of meta builds, even in low level.

I know most people won't agree with this because, for some reason, people care about what system you use to game on. However, I wish WOW would make a console version. Even if it's not cross play I'd be fine, I always loved WOW but I enjoy playing on PS5 with my friends. I've used to be a person that had both a tower and a console, but while in the military it was just easier to grab my console and take it around when I was out in the field or going to random trainings all around. My PC fell behind, and by the time I was out of the military, it was outdated. Most the friends I made online and IRL were console players as well now. So even if I wanted to build another tower, I'd be leaving many friends and that would defeat the whole reason I love to game. I play most the mmorpgs that are on PS5 and ESO is one of my favorites, but man I miss WOW. Especially watching it come back time after time with great updates. I played from the start, but fell off when you started having a base, game felt dead with people only using ques to get things done

I agree with you on Lost Ark, I love the combat and how impactful the spells and abilities feel. I was a founder and played for a few months before the end game content felt bland and i stopped playing. I've played EQ, WoW, GW2, Rift, and a host of other MMOs and Lost Ark is by far the hardest to get back into. It was so frustrating that after a week of trying I jus uninstalled and walked away. I feel that might be a big reason why it fell off so hard, MMOs count on people giving it another go after a break, but with Lost Ark, you give up before you give it a proper go.

I think one of the many reasons are, that you are limited by daily limit of grind progression. when you take a break, you don't feel like coming back because you can't "catch up" in a normal MMO way. rather you know that you will always be behind because of daily progression limits

I really only played pvp and did pve when I had to acquire new gear FOR pvp. Or level up a character lol) I will definitely say though that the gameplay shown didn't quite do it justice lol (I promise it looks better than that in many ways as you progress and perhaps use a much more...zoomed out camera angle?...No you don't have to play THAT zoomed in lol) The overall mechanics are still among the best if not THEE best i've ever came in touch with. The capabilities of what you can do pvp/pve wise isn't really limited in most cases to just 'gear' and numbers. Can you solo a dungeon? Sure. Do you need to be in a ball group? (Aka ZERG...I very much hated the zerglings as we called them, btw lol) NO...If skilled enough, (Which is something I really appreciate about ESO) you can fight other players outnumbered and come out on top. (Aka 1vX'ing) I've seen many 1vX's occur where one GOOD player just absolutely 💩 on 5+ bad players despite gear difference because that good player had 'skill'. The gear didn't matter or the fact they were outnumbered. (I feel that's what most MMORPGs lack is giving the solo players a fair shake instead of immediately having to die because, "Oh, you're outnumbered." "They have better gear..." Well guess what...NOT how ESO works. 🤷‍♂️ You either upgrade your personal skill/reaction timing, combined with knowledge of the game...Or you're gonna get 💩 on still. Especially if someone is better lol Up to you really. 👌💯)

SWTOR was so much fun. I can't remember why I stopped playing. Lately I've been playing Diablo 4 and am looking forward to Path of Exile 2 and eventually Ashes of Creation. I was a part of both the Lost Ark and New World fall offs. Both were impressive for unique reasons, but had issues that limited the overall experience, for example New World's combat. I did try BDO, ESO, and T&L, but did not personally enjoy them.

I'm very interested in once human, because I've been saying for a long time that a seasonal MMO is the way to go, though a reset every few weeks is way too fast. Imagine an mmo like runescape with modern graphics and more action combat with lots of skills/professions that are quite a bit less grindy because it would reset every 3 months. Just a pure dopamine farm.

Highly recommend Once Human as someone that has played mmos and survival games most of their life. It's crazy how well polished the game is when everything in this damn genre is early access and it's just great considering it's a free game. There's a ridiculous amount of stuff in the cash shop but they're all just fancy cosmetics, it really does feel like Warframe with how the pay model is structured. The wipes aren't that big of a deal since you can just transfer a lot of stuff to the new character and the reset is every 6 weeks. Also the game allows you to save a template for your house that will just copy EVERYTHING, so you can just build it again in one click, which I found amazing. If you like survival games, I'd put it around the same level as current Conan Exiles but way more polished even after all these years.

I'm on my 4th season rn, January will be big update with another added map added, wheres the lore of how everything happend is explained. Its a very pop on- off game and does not require you to be online 24/7.

reset is every 6 phases ( with each phase lasting a week, so 6 weeks) not every few weeks. It used to be every 4 weeks but was changed due to players asking for longer time between resets

Lost Ark lost many due to the limits it puts on players. Never limit your players for everything and don't FORCE them to do anything if possible.

Argos release was handled terribly one month into the game and that’s what culled the playerbase by 80%. Most other raids weren’t 1/10th as bad as Argos. Just a month after Argos Valtan was easy to reach and so was Vykas, and Kakul saydon. If Argos was handled better we would’ve had hundreds of thousands more players actually trying out the first real raid, but sadly most quit before even truly experiencing the game. We would’ve definitely lost more players at Kakul and Brelshaza release cause those 2 raids were too hardcore for casual players, but at least they would’ve experienced the game and realizing they’re not good enough vs the game robbing them of that experience cause of poor management.

I became a totally new Wow player this year, never played it before and I'm having much fun, starting with Classic Expansions. I played Throne and Liberty before that and was dissapointed by it bc I was expecting it be like Lost Ark in 2020...

Why no one has tried a Warhammer MMO since Warhammer Online is sincerely a mystery to me. Particularly with the success of the Total War Warhammer series which has introduced a tremendous number of people to the setting.

I suspect FF14 actually has higher player numbers than WoW, for a couple reasons. WoW has been gutted in China, which was the largest single source of its player base, and FFXIV is extremely popular in Japan, a country with a massive population of gamers. Japanese companies are extremely private with literally all information.

Throne and liberty is actually a very good game specially if you're PVP enjoyer , it still lacks a a lot when it comes to PVE and the combat system is meh , but it has a lot of room for improvements and the devs are listening and making some changes . But to be honest unless it fixes it's core issues , by the end of next 2025 Q1 it will lose most of it's player base .

just a comment, but if you like casual, OSRS is quite grindy IMO, most skills and levelling is manual and will require your attention to a certain extent. So, if you want something more casual friendly, that you can AFK a little bit to tend to family, then RS3 is better in that regard.

Albion Online allows you to play at your own pace, I have started playing it solo casually, solo competitively then moved into guild/small scale content. You will enjoy it more if you enjoy PVP a little.

Have not played an mmo in a long time. Gave up on ff14 after waiting hours for a group to do msq content, such a waste of time. Playing old single player rpg's lately. Dragon age 2 is super fun. Following along this channel.. hoping something new and fun will come along mmo wise.
