Perhaps the best composer of descriptive music, it is always a trill for me to listen and travel with it.

When I was 18 years old I fell in love with an amazingly handsome man my age. But he was 1.92, a swimmwear model and an athlete. He worked very hard, even on weekends and he saved to buy this recording to me...we used to listen to this marvelous music in the evenings for a short time since he had to work hard to get his Degree...and I used to watch him asleep, enchanted by his beauty and spirit. Now, we are good friends and whenever I listen to this, thanks to you tube, my mind goes back to that splendid time when Jose Carlos was "my thing of beauty that has lasted for 40 years as a joy forever!"

What a lovely story! One of the pieces here is special to me, too. The intermezzo (progress of the Caliph's daughter) from "In a Persian Market" was set to words in a romantic ballad called "Take my Heart", first recorded by Jacky James in the 1970s. The lyric is great; its message is that it's worth giving your heart, even if the love doesn't last forever. In 2011, I lost a partner of 25 years. Later that year, I fell ill and was told by two doctors I probably had an aggressive cancer (I didn't). During the few days between first being told to expect I might not have long to live and being correctly diagnosed, I felt no fear but some regrets that I wouldn't have time left for particular things. One of the regrets was never, now, having the opportunity to fall in love again. Two years later, I met almost by chance a wonderful man considerably my junior. Being worried about the age difference, I tried very hard not to fall in love with him but, after about eight months, I gave up the struggle and fell! "Take my Heart" is our song". My love and I are still together and he has my heart to take, now and forever; or just one day.

This is something I love about You Tube. I can look up music I heard as a kid and liked very much. My parents were classical music enthusiasts and I heard a lot of it. One day my dad came home with this album and I fell for it big time. He told me it was incidental music written for a black and white movie. I don't know if he was right but if so, it certainly was a great set much earlier in the genre than John Williams but in my opinion much better music. I'm always surprised when someone I know likes classical hasn't heard of Ketelbey. I have a great time introducing them. Yes I know I'm repeating myself but I feel I must say it again. This great music is or was ignored by to many and deserves far more play than it ever has received. As far as I know, KUSC never did play it on their morning show.

Sadly Keleby was ignored after WWII - he is a British Composer/pianist & much of his fame came as accompianment with silent films - It got over saturated & fell out of popular demand in late 50's here in UK. I heard his music on BBC radio - it was also included in a Prom in 2009 - I think his music should be once more played by music stations who like to play classical music!

Ketelbey: un compositor muy poco frecuentado, su música nos hace viajar por paisajes y países recónditos a partir de obras breves, no muy difundidas a excepción, quizás de su "en un mercado persa". Vale la pena tenerlo en cuenta

@@MrDaiseymay Yes - they prefer atonal clanging and banging. And tuneless wailing and yowling has replaced real singing. But like the man says - you can still find the good stuff on KZbin. Felt very down this morning - so I treated myself to a dose of 'Sanctuary of The Heart'. Worked.

I wrote the following statement above, but I feel it belongs here too: I am 78 years of age and I was a classical radio announcer in Houston for many years. I have a specially deep love for Ketelbey's (and Delius's) music and I was ridiculed by other presenters at that radio station for that reason. This is music of the heart, and not of the intellect. It touches my heart so deeply and takes me to better worlds away!

@@notmyworld44 Hello, I am sorry for these situations that people, even from our family, cannot understand the love for this kind of music. But at same time we can consider ourselves privileged for this "understanding of the soul"... it is not something we can explain... it is something we feel and understand from our hearts, and our essence. ^^ Best regards to you.

Ketelby is a much ignored MASTER of music. Orchestras are really missing a bet when it comes to playing exceptional music. I listen to KUSC online sometimes. They have a program mid day that takes requests. Oddly enough, most of what they play is from foreign orchestras and they seem to ignore the productions of marvelous conductors of America. Eugene Ormandy is one of my favorites, as was Arthur Fiedler. The album AF and the Boston Pops made with Alan Sherman was just awesome.

At some point you can hear how Kettelby plagiarized "On the Waves" (Sobre las Olas) authored by the Mexican Juventino Rosas. Nonetheless, I love his Persian Market.

I listened and I think it's a bit strange to call this plagiarized. If this is plagiarized, then there's not much music after 1800 that is not plagiarized
