When Albert Lee toured with Clapton it was simply amazing to here both of them playing guitar. Their solos and rhythm work we're simply the best you will ever hear. Albert Lee is a guitar player who can literally play anything and really, really well. His rock guitar solos on Clapton's stuff we're unbelievably good and made Clapton play his solos even better.

Albert rips. Ed Bergoff, who plays with him ocassionally, introduced me to him in Bakersfield some years back. {Thanks Ed, I'm very grateful} I said to Albert, " I saw you in the Concert For George, Clapton and other heavyweights would come and go on stage, but you played all the way through with everyone." He said, "Yeah, I wouldn't leave". Hearing him just flat out rip on "Country Boy" with maybe 30 other folks in the club was awesomre. What a treat, except it made me want to go home and light another guitar on fire.

Albert Lee perfect gentleman, played several times at my parents music venue, the last time he played my father was on the phone with chas hodges of chas and Dave fame, Albert was on stage with hogans hero’s tuning up ready for the gig ,when my dad told him who he was on the phone with he couldn’t get to the phone quick enough for a catch up as they both played together in the band together ‘heads hands and feat.He always stayed back and did an extra gig at the bar with an acoustic to a few friends and family wonderful guy ,and when I asked him to sign my Earl Scruggs and friends when he was getting ready he said sure but gave me a copy of his new cd first and said give that a listen buddy after signing it.

Albert Lee's chicken pickin' was the nastiest licks i had ever heard when i first heard him. He changed my mind about country twang guitarist being 2nd rate to rock guitarist at a young age, (i found out there were no such things w high level players) and having that arsenal in your tool box helped many up and coming players of every background through the years with versatility through any genres making slicker riffs used in uncharacteristic tunes. I can't believe i just discovered this channel recently, and im glad😎

These are priceless interviews - thank you, for your contribution to music history. I had the good fortune to see both Eric and Albert, as well as Muddy Water's last performance, back in the early 1980s, when Albert was in Clapton's band. Muddy came on and sang "Blow Wind Blow." Albert was given a showcase song, and Gary Brooker (Procol Harum) sang "A Whiter Shade of Pale." Brooker was Clapton's keyboardist, at the time. That was 40-years of music history in one band.

Two of the most unmentioned guitar players Albert Lee and Dicky Betts. At least Betts has received accolades from being in the original Allman Brothers Band. Albert is very well known and respected by every guitar picker in the know. Elvis said James Burton never hit a wrong note he could have just as well said the same of Albert Lee. If you've never heard Albert play live I highly recommend you do ASAP. When he was a Rhythm King those shows were sublime.

Such a great guy and a huge influence on today's country music....which I am torn about. He was such a master at hybrid picking and now you cant really play or hear country songs without guitarists doing it...but personally I think 99 percent of them missed the boat. Albert was flashy but melodic, and all the flash I hear from a lot of new country guitarists everyone else raves about just give me ear fatigue...Albert was the real deal, great interview, Joe.

Sweet memory. Mr. Lee’s wife sat in a booth with my fiancé (who happens to be a luthier) and I while he played. We had no idea she was his wife. He came over at the break and was just such a genuine, nice man. I treasure that memory. Thank you, Mr. Lee.

What an amazing career! Very humble very down-to-earth human being with a very colorful personality who just happened to be so amazing on guitar.. my middle name is Everly.. my mother named me after the Everly Brothers because of that I paid attention to them and discovered how amazing the Everly Brothers were all my friends were listening to Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin and I was listening to the Everly Brothers LOL because of them is how I learned about Albert Lee and how incredible he is and the things that he's accomplished and the people that he's played with and I've been fan of him ever since.. another kickass post Mr Chambers thank you very much!👍

Once again Joe, thanks. -I first saw Albert with the Everly's in an open tent show in Cape Cod MA. They had a revolving stage and it was interesting. When it was your turn, the stage revolved and you to have a front row seat! Don and Phil were totally on their best performance and it was a very intimate setting. They were "off and rolling" just like Archie said:-). At that time I recall in the band was also Wix Wickens. Wix is currently in long serving tenure in Paul McCartney's band. What a show! The band was great and as always so was/is Albert Lee. He was also deep into Musicman gear then too. Once again great interview. -I loved the fact that you knew it was a tweed Bassman talking with Albert. From one picker to others thanks!

In my opinion, Albert is the best guitarist I've ever heard. I have all of Alberts works that's available on CD, and listen to him constantly. There isn't a song done by Albert and the "Heroes" that I don't like. I listen to him, and it makes me want to throw my guitar in a dumpster ! A wonderful man, and a wonderful musician. Great offering !! I recall the EC bit, "oh, I've got one of those" and gives 'history' to Albert. Frustrating times at work (recovering from the shutdown). Just yesterday, before viewing this, Albert with The Dregs "Industry Standard" for Rockin' Guitars is in my brain ….. sings then "I refuse to scream" before the solo.. Hadn't heard this in over 20 years. Great track.

My claim to fame is i was the singer in a little group back in 59.Albert was 16 and just starting out .He was the lead guitarist.I am 80 now but still have the Black and White pics of us from 1959.He never would have guessed back then the fame he would have.

Jimmy's famous black Les Paul was modified electronically by very early Zeppelin roadie Joe Jammer, who was originally from the South Side of Chicago and now living and playing in London (well, except for the coronavirus). Interesting guy, look him up. A few years ago The Music Zoo in Farmingdale, NY had a 2008 Gibson Custom Shop clone of that guitar. Here's what Page said about the original guitar on led-zeppelin dot org, a fan appreciation website: "The Gibson stayed with me until it was stolen in the States. I never took it on the road much but things were going so well that I decided to start using it. It had a big tremolo arm and Joe Jammer custom wired it. I started to use it more then. It disappeared off the truck at an airport as we were on our way to Canada. We advertised for its return with no luck even though it was very recognizable with all the custom work."--Jimmy Page

I still have his HOT LICKS videos on VHS and I still have a VHS player but, nothing to hook it up to. They are great instructional sessions. Easy to follow, that is, until he plays at full speed. Then you're WHAAA? I like what he said about the Tele. He wrote the intro to The FENDER Telecaster book by A.R. Duchossoir, he called the Telecaster, "raw & unforgiving". Him and James Burton both wrote the intro. It's a Hal Leonard book published in 1991. A very cherished book to me. Thanks Joe. Another great one.

I saw Albert with Heads Hands and Feet, supporting Deep Purple in Glasgow circa '72. Nobody had heard of Albert Lee then. Every time he played a solo the lead singer ( Tony Coulson I think ) would shout "Albert Lee folks" but everyone thought he was saying "Alvin Lee". Much confusion ensued.

It was a 1960 Les Paul Custom, if you know your guitars well enough. And no, Page got it stolen in 1970 he bought/was given his Les Paul Standard by Joe Walsh, he didn’t trade it

He says .010 to .046 gauges. Hard to believe he can get those wild country bends on a long scale guitar, Tele or Ernie Ball. I would have thought as least 9s on top. Strong hands.

musicians hall of fame and museum, you could easily clean up the background noise in these interviews with an EQ. we don't need sub-bass to understand the dialogue in these interviews . use an eq or high pass filter to eliminate the ambient bass sounds echoing through the convention center.
